I kind of feel like doing one of these campaigns like back with WinSPWW2....

Do it!  I have no time to play the vidya games so I need to live vicariously through someone else.

I concluded that this would be too much work. However, would anyone be interested in me maybe streaming a match of this?

I would, for one!  Watching someone a bit more experienced would certainly improve my game.

Note that I meant Combat Mission, not WinSPWW2. BTW, in case it got buried, I answered to the Win SPWW2 thread as well.

Sure, I'd still watch it.  Which version of Combat Mission do you have?

Fortress Italy (Italian Front July 1943 - May 1944), Red Thunder (Eastern Front June - September 1944) and the latest one, Final Blitzkrieg (Western Front October 1944 - January 1945).

Sounds exciting!  I just looked up the series and was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of titles.

In other news: a hard-won, marginal victory.  I was the Brits. It was not a very clever or subtle battle, but at least I won in the end.

One of them - I got a lucky PIAT hit when the Panther moved into a street.  The Elefants sat behind the factory and didn't take part in the battle, however.  I was mopping up the German infantry in the Factory complex and planning on button the Elefants with them, and then trying to hit them with my Shermans while they were distracted.  However I think I ran out of turns.

Could it be that the Elefants were bogged down or ran into a mine?

There was no mine on the space.  They were both in the same hex, not moving (though they did fire at targets of oppurtunity) so it is possible that they were bugged.  Also, the German armor didn't move in to support the infantry attack much - the Panther a little at the end, the Elefants not at all.  Possibly by choice or by bug.

Bogged, not bugged. As in, mired in mud.

Oh, yes, possible, but they were rather poorly commanded in that case.  If the Germans had brought up their tanks sooner they could have blasted my machine guns from afar and moved in with many fewer casualties.

I'm now playing the battle for Sidon.  It's a good deal more challenging to be on the attack, especially when it comes to managing and effectively moving large numbers of troops in a smallish area of space.  I worry I don't move fast enough, the Vichyists are supposed to be delaying me, and I think they're doing a good job.

The beginning of my advance.  Laid some smoke down, tried to do fire and maneuver with three platoons.  Got lucky and managed to take out an entire machine-gun crew with one volley(!) which sped things up.

The situation now is that I've taken the villa in the center, after battering the houses with arty and pushing them out with an infantry charge.  Now we're fighting for the entrance to Sidon.

Towards the south I encountered only a few French troops.  I've anchored my line in the American school, and I wanted to use more troops to flank Sidon from beneath, however...

Tanks!  I have a few Boys rifles but I'm not too confident about them in standup fight.

Fortunately, some reinforcements arrived in the nick of time, in the form of a 25-lbers and two 2-lber AT guns.  Got unlucky, however, when a French fighter strafed one and took it out.

Just Cause 3 (BTW needs >16gb or more of memory and/or SSD as it loads in a SHIT load of textures and models as you move round the world. I got away with 8gig's but with my swapfile on a fast (PCIe) SSD. Once it can do that it runs fine on my medium AMD r& 260x & Intel i5 4690k).
