I have the map pack. It was one of the first things I installed almost a year ago.
So I downloaded the community updater, but it wont start up properly. It opens up a windows which says "Could not reach any of the servers, if an emergency link has been provided, please enter it here".

my guess is that your files are extremely outdated.
I joined the server earlier. No problem. But I cant join when it has map packs maps on it.
Can I update the map pack manually somehow??
