Eastern front load music
« on: 23-09-2014, 15:09:31 »
Hi guys! I've always thought that one great and unique fiture of FH2 is the load music, specific to the maps, usually period-correct and very fitting to a said map's setting. My faforites for now are probably Wacht am Rhein and Blood on the risers and I can't wait to see what the devs have decided upon for the new Eastern front maps. Maybe something from the Red army choir, or some finnish or russian songs, popular at that time? Just some thoughts I had about the upcoming update. What do you think?

There are so many songs that fits.

Suomi Marssi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmE3rCdFwKA

If Battle of Prokhorovka ever gets made, the Panzerlied should be used IMO.

I don't know what the policy is for ideology in the loading songs. Some people may take offense.
Vorwärts nach Osten.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhg2qlG2xm8

Kalinka and Katuysha is mandatory IMO. Maybe 1812 Overture

Maybe 1812 Overture

Bad idea. I'll never be able to play that map, since I'll always get stuck on the loading screen, listening instead of playing, especially since it's so long :D

Yeah, if its about German songs we have to be careful. Even if I personally do not feel offended by them, I think singing "Führer, befiehl! Wir folgen dir!" is simply inappropriate.
Regarding the Panzerlied, the video you linked to just repeats the first verse over and over again. I think the third verse is not allowed to be sung/played in public., as its glorifying killing enemies and dying for Germany and the army.

Anyway, there are also many German non-military songs we can use, besides Lili Marlene.
I especially like the songs that fit so well, in literal and cynical way, to the mood of the Germans near the end of the war. You can expect to find some of that in the next patch.  :D

FH2 loading music is one of those little (sometimes unnoticeable) things that just makes FH2 the greatest ww2 game ever. :)

Right out of the gate the devs made a great decision to create a 1940s 'feel' for the game with old marching songs, old popular songs, (some bf1942 themes thrown in ;)) and that's just carried on throughout the years. Next patch is gonna have some good ones too :D

There's 1000s of great songs out there to use, I actually wonder if each map has its own unique loading music. I might have to check on that.

EDIT:
Didn't someone make a comprehensive list of all the load music, win/loss music, records playing ambiance in the mod?

Ah yes. I've never understood using the BF42 intro music for PHL. I just cannot NOT think of a hot desert when that Aladdin-like desert trumpet comes. :/ It should be on El Al IMO.

You could use the Bundeswehr version of Panzerlied. Without all the "Für Deutschland zu sterben ist unsere höchste ehr"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjZ4LE8F5X0

I would have loved to get pumped up by Entry March of the boyars. It's kinda like a poor man's "Ride of the Valkyries". Boyars being Russian nobles, it kinda fits with the Eastern Front :p
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V54EIH5w2mM

The song for St. Lo. Breakthrough is the best one! I always take 30 seconds off and drift away while listening to it. It makes me pumped! Though I couldn't see it on Flippy's list.

DERP, found it. And it's actually used on many other maps. Huh. Well I just bind that with St. Lo.

Nice suggestions, some of those songs were unknown to me!
Maybe if there was a map about the battle of Moscow the song Souliko would be interesting. It is an old georgian song, with some folk motives and the text written by a famous local poet. Not really a fighting song.
It's said that it was one of Stalin's favorites and it was played on the radio as the battle was in its decisive phase. It somehow fits the occasion, with Russia's last hope of stoping the german invasion right before the capital city.

Here is the choir version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUTZRYr8cSw

Some Red Army Choir songs would fit I think. For Prokhorovka "March of the Tankists" would be best I think.

By the way @LazMan12, are you of Lazica origin? I am also 1/2 of Lazica race that's why I ask :) Or is it just a nickame you came up with?
