M24, M27 and M28-30 Mosin nagant rifles. All are diffrent
Do we need all of them?
Yes as infact these were equally common as the M39. If we are going for a Winter war timeframe it is only M24-M28 mosins but if we go further then the M39 supplements these mosin nagants, but never replaced them.
Didn't the Finns also use a few Swedish mausers?
20K mausers together with the 6000 swedish volunteers were sended first to finland at the start of the winter war
Then later on around100 000 Swedish mausers and millions of rounds aswel. These were not always used tough. Some finnish marksman preferred the Gevär 96 over the mosin nagant because of its better accuracy, less recoil and lighter ammo capacity. But not all
I believe the more northren troops were armed with Swedish mausers aswel.
Simo Häyhä was givin a Scoped Swedish mauser Model 96 for example. Very accurate and light on recoil but he disliked it FOR THE scope, as he preferred to use iron sights over a scope. Also he found the lenght to be to long for his 1 meter 60 cm statue.
This is one of the Swedish volunteers with the Swede mauser.
Still saw heck alot more usage then lets say, an M1917
