sherman ::)

+1. M4A3 Sherman. Deflects everything. The best heavy tank of world war 2.
Its frontal armour withstood at least 2 shots from all ranges.
Even Tiger tanks had to outflank it at high speed to be able to shoot its vulnerable, weaker armored sides.
Panzerschreck rockets bounced off it like nothing.

Only one person in this whole wide world could one shot a Sherman.
The rest of us needs to "learn to aim".

Willy's Callipoe. It survived an 88 mm Shell from a Jagdpanther within the Range of 5 Meters. Seems legit.

sherman ::)

childish stuff
Maybe you guys should finally put a stop to this behaviour, you know. You guys keep coming back in every thread which remotely concerns tanks and start moaning about something which is widely known by now, and recognised too. It doesn't help to post more of this crap. IF it changes anything, it will:
1) annoy many people
2) lower the chance of it being fixed

So, please stop it. Again.

Back ontopic about your fav heavy tank.

IIRC the Sherman M4A3s front armor was underrated in 2.4, especially compared to the M4A1. It has the correct armor value in 2.45.

So I guess you don't want realistic armor values anymore? The M4A3 front armor was identical to the M4A1 before, even though it was thicker irl. This has been rectified.

I think you guessed wrong. No need to guess. It's a facepalm. It's self-explanatory.

As it is atm, the Sherman in all its forms of 2.45 is a heavy tank. It takes too much punishment.
M4A1 or M4A3 is not the question.

Thank you Odium. Cant oneshot it to the side and BACK with the Panzerschreck. I dont think this are good armor values.
Also thinks like you cant one hot it with a Panzerfaust 30 (only 30) to the front still exist.

They are referring to the things the Sherman can stand even without the angle mod and range modifier - although it shouldn´t. If we don´t consider bounces and range the Sherman can still:

- Stand a Panzerschreck hit to the
  - front
  - side
  - rear

- Stand a Panzerfaust 30 hit to the
  - front
  - turret
(- side when tracks or tools are hit)

- Stand a 75mm/L48 to the
  - turret ring (front) (every Sherman)
  - frontal hull (M4A3, 76mm armed M4A1, Sherman V)

This is strange enough, but then add the range modifier and the angle mod and you get even worse results. Sure Panzer IV etc. also profit from the angle mod and range modifier, but they don´t get those other weird bonuses in the first place that combine and make a super tank.

didnt the M4A3 come about a little after normandy? I know the A3's started replacing other shermans. But wernt the M4 and the A1 still heavily used in Normandy?

All the technical information on the sherman you'll ever need here
http://afvdb.50megs.com/usa/m4sherman.html

M4A3 (75) W started production in Feb. 44, I'm not going to look up when they hit the frontlines, but it was definitely present in Bulge. M4A3 early models were in Normandy, though we do not represent this ingame as we'd rather focus on upcoming stuff, not old stuff.

There's a lot of misinformation on Shermans, armour thickness, and gun penetration. Some clarifications:
M4A1: Cast Hull, gasoline
M4A2: Welded Hull, diesel
M4A3: Welded hull, gasoline
M4A4: Welded elongated hull, multibank gasoline
In addition:
you've got several variations of each of the above, early, mid, late, and so on.
A mid M4A3 75mm has 51mm armour, while a late M4A3 75mm has 64mm armour at front, sloped at 47 degrees.

Our M4A3 is the late variant and thus will have 80mm of frontal armour ingame. As we upscale the armour values accounting for the slope of the armour. Could even argue it should be 90mm.

Also, more clarification on gun penetration:
http://www.wwiivehicles.com/usa/guns/75-mm.asp
Notice how those values are 70mm at 30 degrees. The panther has 80mm frontal, however the glacis plate is upscaled to 120mm ingame to account for the slope, which is 55 degrees from vertical. However if the sherman shot downwards at a panther from 55 degrees higher, the impact would be at 0 degrees, and at pointblank range a sherman could penetrate it.

Naturally, we cannot account for everything. Thus the sherman 75mm will in no circumstance be able to penetrate the Panther's frontal ingame.
However, the Sherman M4A3 in Bulge will be able to survive one, but not two, frontal shots from the Panzer IV.
You may discuss this here, bad, good, axis bias, allied bias, however it is unlikely to affect our decision on it.
Also I got a lot of work to do, so may not have time to type up long replies like this one.
