Introduction to Modding FH2
« on: 28-08-2012, 01:08:55 »
Hi everywone!

Well, i come here to say than i would realy whana join the modding team, moding maps, veicles, armys, ect...

Basicaly, most of the moders, have girlfriends, events, compromisses, ect... have a lot of tings to do during all days, and you cannot pay as much atention to modding game as you whant, so im a guy who passes like 24 hours in front of a computer, playing FH2, PR, going to Facebook, seeing the forum, ect...

So basicaly, i could waste my time modding FH2.

I recently downloaded a program called Blender, wich seems like 3D max, (its a free program) but people says than is complicated to work with him.

I tryed to open some FH2 Models files with this program, but it doesnt work, that program can only open .blend files, so i change the name of the files, and then i try to open it, but it should apear me the veicle rigth?

Now for a newbie guy on this, i whana strat making an Japanese soldier, so i whana know, wich files should i mod, to Add an new army over there, and then adding 1 japanese soldier, with texturing, ect...

I would like also to ask a favor: can someone download blender, and then, open an Modeling file to check if it works? cause i couldnt open a file with taht program :/

 ;D

Anyhoo, not sure if there are any tools other than the PoE2 tools for 3ds max, but with that you can import/export meshes (models), animations and do some more stuff in 3ds max.

Good fucking luck though.

Ehm no, this will never work, as the files themselves differ greatly and not just by the ending.
As McCloskey wrote, you actually need another program that decodes the model files from BF2s own system to a file type which 3DSMax can read/open. Afaik there is no such converter for Blender.
Blender is good, when you want to learn the basic handling of a CAD/modelling program, but you won't be able to use it to make a model for FH2.

Go into the modelling section and have a long look at all the different tutorial videos, this will really help you!

Modelling soldiers is the hardest thing to do, if you really feel fit for it, have a go at something like a table, a small hut or a mug. All these may seem simple, but modelling, texturing and then importing them to BF2 will teach you more than an impossible task like a soldier model ever will.

Lastly, try using a spell-checker. I know dyslexia is a common disablement nowadays, but spell-checkers can help tenfold!

Maya also works.

Better use 3D´s Max 9 <- this is not MAX 2009!!!

Do not learn modeling for BF2 with Blender, like I did.
It is a really good program with fantastic workflow but you can only export stuff to bf2 and fh2 with 3ds max. Thus you always have to export the models you made in Blender, which always, ALWAYS is a massive pain in the arse and it never works properly.

there are ways to do this, but afaik the dev's are really not to fond of people fiddling with their work..if you just want to look at the models, how they are build and how you have to set up the hirarchy, download remduls BFmeshview

you can look here for tutorials about modeling etc etc

I dont think devs care what you do with their models aslong as you dont use them in another mod etc
