I don't have time to write an extended review, but so far, I really like what I see from the game.  Maybe the gun load is not 100% accurate, but the general mood of the game (graphics, sounds, vegetation, etc.) feels way more realistic than RO1/DH or FH2.  I played almost all ww2 fps (retail games and mods) and I think tripwire should not be ashamed about what they produced.   U can be disappointed the game is not exactly what u expected, but being disgusted is a bit overreacted imho.

Update : This is funny to see how Goljattii and Pascucci dislike the game for opposite reasons.

I would describe this game as a bad joke. A bad joke, just like it's predecessor.

Why do people like this? Do they seriously enjoy playing a game where you first run over 100 meters to get to position to defend, then get killed instantly by a guy that you never see, but he allways sees you.
Maps are badly designed, look at Iwo Jima and understand what I mean.
Also, flamethrower and knee mortar are sweet, but unnecessary.

Every single time I quit the game because it's not fun. Games are supposed to be fun and this game fails badly. Even Modern Warfare games are enjoyable.

I hope Rising Storm fails. And luckly it will because games like Cod: Ghost and Battlefield 4 are coming later this year.
There are people who dont like Call of battlefield modern whorefare dubstep 17. I dont like games were full auto weapons deliver 50 bullets on the size of an Post-it note. Nor do i like games were i need 10 bullets to kill a single guy.


RO2 was good for me, minus the wrong things. AKA TWI going COD style with super rare weapons being very common (AKA The MKB42 whoring)

RS is not that way. I play RS and i see what i would expect from a game wich is about the pacific


Altough i do agree with your point about flamethrowers and knee mortars. They are issued in to large numbers ATM

The flame thrower is way too fun! Ran around a hut and torched 6 japs at once! The screams of pain were music to my ears!

So far the game is very enjoyable! There are some beefs I have, but easy to overlook. Super pumped to see the full version!

Reading your review leads me to a serious question. How could you become a beta tester for FH2? "Flamethrower and Kneemortar are unnessecary" ... are you serious about that? Should we play FH0.7 or FH2 without them? They were used in this theatre of war and saw usage, so it is damn fine if they get implemented in such a game but in a rather accurate way and not just by balancing everything to death. The flamethrower was in BC2 Vietnam and that thing was really a bad joke. Was more like a Zippo ...

And for your information. One of the best aspects of the RO franchise is that spawnrape is a rather rare thing compared to other games because people don't spawn right into the battle as for example in your beloved BF or CoD games. Wtf, how can people not like to get spawnraped constantly?  ::)
For some people it is just enjoyable to spawn in a save zone, move to the heat of the battle and search for a good position. If you get killed by a guy you don't see then don't blame the game. You have to take care of your surroundings yourself or do you need a arrow blinking over all your enemies.

And to wish that Rising Storm fails is even more dumb. Glad that you support people like Toddel like that.  ::)

Ona side note: the game looks very promising for me and I am looking forward to it. Though the release tomorrow seems a bit early after reading some comments in the Tripwire forum.

Watch out we have a COD fan boy in here... Learn to have the skill to know who shot you and get kills. In reality you would not see your enemy shooting you either. Also Tomahawk and Nuke is unnecessary on an infantry fight yet those don't bother you. And saying that you hate to go to a place just to get shot makes me wonder why A) you play FH2 and B) you play FPS genre at all...


This game is awesome. Played only a few rounds but did quite well in it. Maybe i will buy it later on this year.

After having played the beta for 9 hours I´ve got mostly positive feelings about it. After I installed it on my actual gaming PC I´ve got to say that it looks really gorgeous and runs smoothly. The atmosphere is great and really tense, especially when you´re playing on that dark jungle map. Another great thing are the Banzai-charges, but from both sides. Being at the receiving end of one is just as exciting as being in a big wave of Japanese storming an Allied position. Sounds are really great, as well and add alot to the overall game experience.
Some things I dislike are the delusional decision of the devs to keep achievements and unlocks in the game. It´s especially crazy that you have to level up to unlock gamemodes. Fortunately levelling up doesn´t take too much time for a RO2 veteran, but for someone new this might be more frustrating. Then there are also graphic bugs, some small issues with the server browser and other minor things. Hopefully these issues won´t be too big of a problem after the release.
As I said earlier, I won´t buy the game, yet. If there´ll be more content like tanks and maybe a free-to-play weekend I might consider buying it. As of yet, it still feels a bit more like a mod than an additional add-on and spending money on that still feels a bit weird.

For your questions: A) I play FH2 because I enjoy it. Realism and gameplay are well balanced. I think that too much realism kills the gameplay or gamejoy and that has happend on RO2/Rising storm. And that is my opinion.
B) I play FPS genre because they are mostly enjoyable.

Perhaps I was too harsh and didn't say any positive things in my review (like overall visual look and Pacific theme), but they won't change the fact that I just didn't enjoy it. Deal with it. You guys don't have to go on a crusade of jihad against me just because I don't like things that you do.

And let's make this flamethrower issue a bit more cleared. My opinion is, that yanks have better firepower aspect against japs like Garand, Bar, M1919, M1 carbine and even a shotgun. Do they seriously need a flamethrower to unbalance factors even more? Yes flamethrower was a common thing on late pacific, but is it a reason place it there? Japanese have only two spawnable automatic weapons, Type 100 smg and Type 99 lmg (or 96, I don't remember).
This is real, Japanese didn't have that great infantry firepower when compared to yanks IRL. But we are talking about a video game here, there should be a balancing factor that makes US and japanese factions equal, but I didn't see any and knee mortar can't be counted as a proper balancer.
I read from the statistics page that US can unlock japanese weapons and vice versa, but does it balance anything? Hardly. If you people know a certain something that makes both sides equal and balanced then please tell me.

As a summary: I just don't like the game. Deal with it. If you don't, then build a time machine and go to the late 1930's Germany or Soviet Union, in there you will find more likes of you that don't disagreeing opinions.

PS. 5hitm4k3r: Are you saying that I should like Rising storm and support it just because Toddel was among the people making it? THAT is dumb.

Goljatti, you need to learn to read. Wth did I say that you should like the game? There is certainly a difference between saying "ok, I can't get used to the game - it's just not my cup of tea" and to say "I wish this game fails". I hope you see this.

Nobody is expecting you to like the game, it might be possible that you find even nothing enjoyable about it. That's not the deal.

The USMC and the US Army had better equipment without a doubt and they used it during that war. Japanese didn't have that many full automatic weapons either and TWI and the RS dev team try to represent this on a realisitc way and this seems to be a quite big challenge. Same as the FH2 dev team tries to represent realistic loadouts and you should know this. If we were about to see a Pacific front for FH2, I promise you that it would look like quite similar.

One thing a dev can do is to limit those kits a bit better - that's a point where I agree with you. I think RO has a problem with kit swapping and multiplying but I am not 100% sure. Atleast I find it quite easy to pick up kits from dead soldiers and thus leading to possible imblances.

aparantly, you can still play RS if you dont purchase it, but only using bolt action rifles.

Well i have had great-jolly-times on the "Classic" game servers

these servers are like RO1.

Still the realism servers are quite fun aswel. And some of them remove the pistols for the regular classes.
