3d map key

seeing how so many players tend to not have their 3d map on (not just new ones!),
how about assigning a different default key to it.
for me alt isn't  a wise choice as my keyboard layout changes quite often, and I bet other players also have non-FH2 commands on the alt key. however when they use them it turns the map off (im assuming its turned on by default)

so if we cange the default key to one thats not used as often, i think we wouldnt have as many players running around without 3d map

I have it on the letter "O", works like a charm!

although its probably better on a non-normal chat key, but i think another default would do quite well

I have to say I keep forgetting it fromtime to time and I am sertainly not a new player.
For me changing the key wouldnt change anything about the fact that i forget it sometimes.

Is it possible to have it activated automaticly at the beginning of the round. Or maybe it could be activated alwasy without the possibilty to switch it off.

What would speak against my last point?

If you assign it to a useless key you never use (in my case "O"), press it once to activate the 3D map, you're done!

i like to have it off when taking screenshots, but thats the only reason i can think off (except maybe hardcore no hud immersionists!)

I made a thread in here suggesting adding tips and tricks on loading maps, and a reminder to turn your alt map on is one of the main reasons I made that suggestion. It's not a matter of new players or old players, many simply forget to make sure it's on whether they've played for 4 days or 4 years, and every single infantry map someone somewhere has to be reminded or taught how to use the 3D map, which is awkward to explain over teamchat anyway.

I wouldn't want to have it permanently on since everything else can but turned off (HUD, map etc.) for those of us who like to play on Hard Mode, but if there was a way to assign it default on instead of default off that would solve a lot of problems. Of course if there was a way to do that I'm sure it would've been done already but little things go a long way.

But you only have to do it once. Like this:

1) Open FH2 game
2) Go to Options/Controls/Infantry
3) Change 3D key from Alt to "InsertUselessKeyHere"
4) Join server (empty one preferably)
5) Take scoutkit
6) Put S-mine
7) See if you can spot the red skull icons when you are close to your own S-mines
8)
a) If yes: profit! Done, don't change anything anymore
b) If no: press the key you chose at 2) and try again. You should end up at 8a) now.

The game will rememeber if you had it off or on when you leave the server, even if you join a different server. So you don't have to remember yourself! The game does it for you!

And if you can't remember to do this once, then you should go easy on the pot, dude ;)

so if the default gets changed to "InsertUselessKeyHere" there wont be as many new players acidentally turning it off and running into steiner's s-mines is what im saying

Yes, I think it is a great idea, I'm not against it or anything. I was just assuming that hyperanthropos didn't know how to do it, or was forgetting stuff. "Don't forget to bring a towel!"

I see! My assumption was that I would have to turn it on every time I join a server, just with an other key.
Therefore I thought the idea of changing to a different key wouldnt change anything for players who dont think of it at the beginnnig of the round.

I will change it to "O" as someone has suggests. I appologize for every unearned teamkill I inflicted on the FH2 community

 What else does the 3D map do besides show red skull for s-mines?

i never see anything else
