DarklyDreamingDexter: What is you take on the last Dexter season? I thought the writing dropped in quality considerably.

Well, let me first state that my love for Dexter isn't entirely objective. I have Asperger Syndrome and to me Dexter is more than just a TV show, it's like a personal guide on how to live with people around you, and also explains (in hindsight) a lot of personal stuff I went through during my life. When I saw the first episode I was simply baffled; finally there was a show that didn't treat autism as a funny trait, or a weird skill, but as a life altering condition that takes effort and determination to live with.

(Now of course in the context of the show Dexter's 'dark passenger' (in his case his bloodlust) is caused by a specific traumatic happening in his life but his character traits are definitely autistic. Just clearing up that I'm not just a smitten fanboy who identifies with mass murder)

So concerning the show's recent season: I loved it, although I think I get your point. The writing seemed more calm, and less focussed on scoring points with oneliners or tense situations. Dexter himself finally seemed to be in control of his life and his actions. The past seasons were really high strung, with him getting out of situations just in time, and getting into new ones just as fast, which didn't seem like him. And it was almost exhausting to watch.

So the 'freshness' has gone a bit (but hey, it's season 6) but it's far from stale: Cpt. Adama and Son-of-Hanks were two pretty awesome nemesi and the whole plotline leading up to the cliffhanger, although on the verge of being far-fetched, was a wallop. I didn't see that one coming at all (didn't really thought the writers would go for a twist like that). Also Dexter going on a bender with his brother seemed to stretch the boundaries of the show's own concept a bit too much, but we experience the show from his perspective so in the end I found it to work. Was nice seeing him be his other self for a change. :)

Untill now the only season I found to be a little sub-par was season 3 (with Jimmy Smith as Dexter's first 'friend') but even that one still had a lot of pluspoints. Personally I love how every season has it's Dexter-specific but real-life main theme, wether it be relationships, having a kid, trying to make friends, religion/spirituality etc.. The way that his struggles with everyday things like those is portrayed in the show is really well done and relatable.

So pardon my long story, but you asked me for my personal take (and I've even held back a bit). ;)

FH2 is the game, DarklyDreamingDexter is the name.

Tonight, WaW, Giarabub 16. The short story is that myself and my squad mates saw the score at 125-24 (125 Italians, 24 Australians, my squad Australian), and we quickly took both flags and our defense was such that the round ended 3-0 Australia. Regardless of how many people were online, that was the single most unexpected victory I have ever been a part of in FH2.

There were quite a few awesome moment for me on WaW last night.

- In a squad on the British side on Port-en-Bessin. Our first attempt to take Shipyard failed miserably when the car all four of us were in blew up crashing into the house. Then I attempted to take a Wasp over there to barbecue the flag for a while before capping it, only to roll the Wasp over almost immediately and narrowly escape death. We did take Shipyard eventually, and that's when the fun began. In just three short minutes, and after 0 kills and 5 deaths to start the round (the other 3 deaths are boring stories) I killed 7 people with the M30 Drilling in about three minutes. This was accomplished whilst smoking a cigarette, which naturally made me feel pretty badass. A couple were picked off on the opposite side of the river, one coming down from the southwest flag to attack Shipyard, and then we went to cap Outskirts. We got it and we were crossing the 'river' to go get Widerstandnest 56 when I fell into the port. Swam across the river instead, up a ladder, and jazzed around in the houses keeping an eye out for enemy inf as my squad moved up. Killed someone waaaay across the river with the Drilling rifle. Reloaded and almost immediately killed someone sneaking past my house. Ran out of the house and switched to shotgun and spied another guy climbing up the ladder I'd just come from. He ran right past me and I got him in my sights, and missed the shot by a country mile. Took off running down the steps and back onto the road, reloading, and turned around just in time to make that same guy eat two shotgun blasts as he came to investigate. Was killed shortly afterwards but I had the Drilling for a lot longer than usual, so that made me happy. The best part for me was how none of it felt natural, I hadn't played FH2 for a while and it all felt really awkward to me, I couldn't get comfy in my chair and that sort of thing, but nearly everything I shot at that round I hit.

- The other really good moment from last night would have to be on Eppeldorf. When I'm playing on the Euro servers I always take South Farm to defend, hopping into the 76mm a/t gun and rolling it back towards the American main. There's a nice spot you can sit where you are pretty well hidden but you can see any movement at the flag, and then roll forward over a little hill and blast it with HE. This was my plan, and for nearly 15 minutes, not a God damn thing happened. Then, I looked at the map to check up on the other action, and in the space of about two seconds, the flag was suddenly German. Torn between hitting it with HE and getting out to try and take it as inf (I had an M1 Carbine and I can't hit anything with that gun), I finally decided to storm it as inf. I thought that if it was a squad I should use HE, but if it was a squad I would've seen it. More likely it was just one inf sneaking from the nearby flag that was German at the time. I got out my comp B and blew up my a/t gun so no one could sneak into it and use it to kill me (no friendlies around).

Bailed out and snuck into town. Heard a K98 go off and managed to kill the guy that shot me. That flag takes ages to grey with one guy. Moved to a different spot and killed him again when he respawned. Stole his K98, fuck the Carbine. Then the PaK40 spawned a millisecond before the flag greyed. I jumped in it, switched to HE, put it in reverse, and sent a shell into the barn, where I killed three guys I had no idea were in there. Swung around and put a shell into that other little house there, where the Zook spawns - another kill. Flag was ours again, and I returned to where I was originally, only now I had a PaK instead of an M3.

And no one attacked for another 10 minutes.. 15 minutes.. finally, I got tired of hearing endless complaints about a camping KT who was just north of our ABC line at the top left of the map. I swung the PaK around, put it in 1st and headed off through the woods. I wasn't kitty hunting, I just thought after hearing so many 'there's a guy in church's on the teamchat I should go see what I can do to help. Cruised through the woods for a few minutes when someone spotted the KT and it glowed red on my minimap (I was zoomed out as far as I could go, so the KT was still pretty far away, but at least I knew where it was).

I reached the northern edge of the woods and creaped forward in gunsight view to try and get eyes on the Tiger. I couldn't see the KT but I could hear it firing, and using free-look sonar I zeroed in on it. I finally saw it, just a white turret sticking out over a white hill. The turret wasn't pointing at me, but near enough. I doubted I could get a good shot from there but I loaded AP anyway. Ping, right off the turret, but no damage. I was about to reverse and try to get a better angle when the KT moved from cover and a side hull shot became slightly possible. I was halfway up a hill and my view was skewed, the line of the horizon going from the bottom left to the top right of my screen as if I'd turned my monitor 45 degrees. The KT was not quite at pixel distance, but it was very close to it, and if it reversed or drove away I wouldn't be able to see it with the snow. I fired and drove forwards again to try and level my sights. Hit number 1! I couldn't see any smoke on it but I knew I hit it. Re-aimed and fired again. Hit number 2! (Well, 3, technically. Whatever). Seriously smoking now. The KT switched from reversing to just driving away, but it was approaching the limits of my view distance. I fired again, and hit it again, and it was burning, but still driving away. It reached view distance and I lost sight of it, but I continued to lead it as best as I could. As the next round clanged into the PaK, I fired again and up she went. The round was nearly over at this point, and it was the last we saw of the KT.

- I had another one but I guess that's long enough. Just one of those nights we all have from time to time, where I overachieved like nobody's business. I'm sure tonight on WaW will be a return to usual form :D.

Shot down two P47s over Farmhouse with the PaK 40 on Cobra in the space of about five minutes and hit a Mustang but the round glitched just now, in a round that crashed to the desktop 4 times for me plus one internet disconnect. Slightly cheapened by the fact I was sitting in the PaK with the intention of plane hunting all round, but an achievement nonetheless.

Yesterday on Falaise. As Canadian we were losing horribly (something like 90-40 or so at this point) and all we had left was Mortar Battery. The Sherman V spawned as I was walking past it so I hopped in and gunned it for St. Lambert North (the flag closest to Church) to try and bypass the main German assault. I had no idea where the main German assault might be, other than that it was likely to be at Mortar Battery pretty soon.

Rolled along the east side of the map for a while and stopped at Lambert North and was about to cap the flag when I thought I ought to at least peak out on the field in the west of the map and see if I can pick off a few German infantry as inevitably I am going to be fausted before I cap the flag anyway. I drove out into that 'triangle' field between Church and Lambert North and saw three tanks supported by battalions of infantry. One AP round, knocked out a Panther. Second AP round, knocked out another Panther. Third AP round, hit the Panzer IV at fog distance and he was quickly knocked out. Switched to HE and decimated the entire German team. I think we recapped the first Lambert flag, and I kept levelling the middle flag until the end of the round, which ended 4-0 for Germany. We so nearly stole it at the end. Woulda been good :D.

It seems no one gives a fuck about this thread, but that's just too bad  :D. My awesome time on FH2 today is simply told - in the mobile PaK 40 as ever on Supercharge. KABANG! Up goes a 'backcapping' (i.e. going to camp uncaps) Sherman. 30 seconds later, after I missed my first shot, boom, up goes another Sherman. But wait, that's not all. I hear a Beaufighter.. KABOOOOM! Shot out of the sky. The Beaufighter respawns.. BLAMMO! Two rounds, two Beaufighter kills. It killed me the next time it spawned, but 10 minutes after this people were talking in teamchat about how irritating it is that the Brit tanks could take so much punishment.

'Just use the Pak 40' I said. 'It can kill anything on this map. I've already nailed two Beaufighters today'.

Followed by, less than 20 seconds. later. BAM!

'Better make that 3 Beaufighters'.

It was a good round, but at the risk of sounding greedy, on at least two separate occasions, I hit Allied planes with the mobile PaK but the round didn't penetrate/register. Really, it should have been 4 Beaus and 1 Spit, but three planes shot down by the PaK I spent 20 minutes cruising into the middle of the desert isn't a bad haul.

After hunting the elusive Stug on PeB for good 20 minutes I finally managed to stuff a PIAT up his rear... Felt really proud!

Followed by a great round of St. Lo with a great squad (forum regulars + Steiner as SL) defending Les Foulons viciously for around half an hour, before the other squads managed to take hill and get the push going, managed to pass over 100 points in the end and grab the Gold Star (and that's something that does not happen often to me  8)).

Bit of fun on Luttich earlier today. Not a big fan of that map and I was already kind of annoyed at spending ten minutes to try and switch teams to join a squad I wanted to be in, only to be teamswitched back immediately. I know that's not being a good team player and I don't make a habit of it, but I felt like joining a squad full of players I actually know for a change.

Finally, I gave up, spawned at the US main and grabbed the Greyhound. I cruised around town for a while, killing a couple Germans here and there but nothing spectacular. North of the town I came through some bocage and saw a German bicycling along happily in front of me. I watched him for a moment or two, ringing his bell, and thinking it unsporting and not really caring about teamplaying too much at this point I drove up behind him, spammed 'CHARGE!' on the commo rose, and then headed off to the farm, the only flag I hadn't visited so far. I approached through a field NW of the flag (which was ours) and saw a shell blast right by me. Guessing, correctly, it was from the US-held 57mm gun I assumed there must be a tank between me and the flag, and there was, a StuG. He was reversing into the field in front of me. I switched to AP and fired a shot and did a bit of damage (if you aim for the top upper hull you can hurt the StuG with the Greyhound). I fired again, no damage, and a third time, damaging him again. At this point he began to turn, and knowing he'd get me if I tried to reverse, I went full speed ahead, wrecklessly passing in front of him, and he fired and missed me by a millimetre. Now we were engaged in some strange game of ring-around-the-rosie, the StuG spinning on the spot to try and get me in his sights, and me driving circles around it trying to get a shot at the narrow space on the back where you can do some damage. After twenty seconds or so I got another hit, and the StuG started smoking. He then took off towards the German main, spamming the smoke launcher for all it's worth, and I couldn't see anything but grey. I followed the sound of his engine and fired a few more times, a couple misses and one non-penetrating hit. Finally, the smoke cleared, and the StuG was just at the very edge of fog distance. I took aim and blew him up. At this point, there was only about 20 tickets left for us versus 150 or so for the axis, so when I spotted a Panther wreaking havoc at farm a few seconds later I drove full speed at it, wildly firing the 37mm gun and machine gun at him before crashing into him just as the round ended.

Yesterday on Luttich I killed two Panthers that drove way south to camp the American ABC line. I couldn't find the print screen button on my new keyboard so I have no visual record, but they were literally bumping into each other. They were driving one behind the other, and the first one stopped suddenly and then second one drove into him :D. One zook killed the one behind and two zooks killed the second one.

Here is a story I may have mentioned during a long game of FH2, when my finger would suddenly begin to hurt and I would complain or leave. This goes way back to FH1, back when I was much much more competitive.

I think it may have been sometime in 2006. It was a long tournament as I usually would have every week or so, playing for a good 6+ hours and still going past 3 AM. Well, after holding down my crouch key for a whole two hours on one map, trying to keep under cover and still kill people MY FINGER BROKE! Just like that, it caved in under pressure. It was quite painful, really. But, it was very important match so I just quicky remapped my crouch key and continued playing for another hour. So many kills, so few deaths in the end. But ever since that I've not been able to play FPS games all that well. My finger just caves in naturally now and then after just an hour of pressure. Doesn't break anymore, but hurts alot. I still love to play sniper in FH1/FH2 but I tend to avoid 30+ player games, along with highly organized battles.

Despite this old war wound though, I can still play and even occasionally come out in first place which is really satisfying.
Theoretically if all 7,000 of the U.S.A's UAVs were the same and could be armed with 4 missiles each and distributed across all countries of the world then you could kill 300,000+ politicians world wide in an hour. They've built an army of potential assassins in just one decade, yes we're concerned.
