How many mines can be deployed?
« on: 11-08-2009, 07:08:02 »
I’ve searched the forums and Google, but couldn’t find the definite answer. How many mines can engineer deploy before they start disappearing? In-game someone told me it’s 8. Is it correct?

if you have 3 mines in the kit you can deploy all 3, go to an ammo box grab 3 new ones and place them too. then you can go to an ammo box and get 3 new ones, when you now deploy one more the first one you deployed will disappear.

same thing with s-mines just replace the 3 with 2 in the top sentence.

if you are alive the mines will stay forever (i guess) when you die they will disappear after a short while (i think something like 5 minutes but not sure)

Couldn't you just say it's 6 for AT mines and 5 for s-mines?

And mines last more less than a minute after ones death. If you're alive they stay as long as you stay in that state unless someone digs them with a wrench.

Oh-oh, I got an idea. We should have a seperate tool for digging out mines becouse when someone puts a mine under a vehicle it's nearly impossible to dig out.

Do I remember correctly? Did mines have bug, that they are invisible for short while before they really disappear?

It's five mines (10 mine flags, I believe), no matter what kind (S-Mines, Tellermines, or Mk VI mines).  And they stay as long as the kit that laid them is active.  If you lay mines and die, the mines will stay active as long as the kit is still on field.  Once it dissolves, the mines disappear.  If someone (friend, foe, even you, if you're fast enough) picks up your kit before it dissolves, the mines will stay in place.  I'm not sure, but there might be a set time limit on how long a particular mine stays active.  I know I've mined places that, after a long time (but while I still had my kit), someone ran over that place and the mine didn't trigger.  There may be a time limit, but it rarely comes into play because it is a very long time (5-10 minutes), and by that time, someone has usually either killed you and the kit has dissolved or someone has tripped the mines already.

Do I remember correctly? Did mines have bug, that they are invisible for short while before they really disappear?

I think so.  I think the mines dissolve at the same time the kit does, but the actual explosive stays intact for a few seconds afterwards.  You can tell when a mine was triggered in this phase because the kill message comes up as You[killed]Them, rather than You[S-Mine]Them.  Be careful traversing areas that you've mined, even if you're sure the kit that laid the mines has dissolved.

I tested it a long time ago and it is definitely 5 mines.

I layed 5 in a row, and then layed a sixth next to the first, the first disappeared in front of my eyes.

I would agree that you can deploy 3 mines, go to the ammo box, grab another 3 mines and place them, too. That is 6 mines total. But when you go to the ammo box and grab mine #7 without even having deployed it, mine #1 will disappear. So the maximum number of mines active in your kit would be 6, not 9. Once a mine is slipping from the storage slot into your hands, I consider it "activated".

Concluision: If you dropped 6 mines and accidentally pick up a 7th mine while passing an ammo box, mine #1 will vanish. Thus I believe in 6 mines but not 5, though I rarely use them.

same thing with s-mines just replace the 3 with 2 in the top sentence.

if you are alive the mines will stay forever (i guess) when you die they will disappear after a short while (i think something like 5 minutes but not sure)

Accordingly to my conclusions above, the maximum number of s-mines active would be 4. Though I'm not really aware. My acting is rather instinctive. Usually I deploy 2 and keep 2 in reserve, if possible.

Kits will disappear after about 20 seconds. Accordingly you got 4 to 5 seconds to regrab it when you spawned. That long mines will definetely stay.
Whenever I had deployed s-mines and died on respawn, the mines still did stay another 16 seconds until next respawn.
After 30 to 33 seconds and the second respawn, the s-mines lose information about themselves but not about the player ID who dropped them. They will stay about another 15 seconds up to a total of 45-50 seconds. This leads to kill messages like "Me[removed with]enemy". The player ID information is still there, but the mine forgot about herself. In case you sit in a static gun or vehicle during the last and 3rd period of existance of that mine, the kill will be assinged to the gun you're sitting in, as the engine is infering to the ID's actual gun to fill the missing information about what killed the enemy.

So after having died 2 times while you deployed 2 mines in the first life, then there are 5 mines active and assigned to your ID of which the first 2 will have forgetten "about themselves". (2x depolyed, 2x undeployed, 1 active and one in reserve). And that would speak in fact for a maximum of 3 s-mines or 5 anti-tank-mines total.

Gotta test this.

Like others stated in this thread 5 mines are the max number that stay active. If you place number 6 the first one will go away etc.

The 5 mines will not go away if you refill your kit at an ammobox/truck. You can have 5 mines placed and 3 in your kit. If one of the 5 mines blow's up a tank you can place a new one from your kit.

After you died the mines you layed stay active for 60 seconds, however like Ionizer said,  if you or someone else retakes the kit the mines will be active as long as the one holding it stays alive. Kits will be gone after 30 seconds and having a respawn time of 15 seconds on most servers (hslan), it will be very difficult to get your own kit back.

Respawn delay is 16. Accordingly I would have 14 seconds. Are you sure? 14 seconds feels like forever, while those damn kits disappear in no-time.

HSlan server variables says 15 sec. but who cares 1 sec. Anyway there is a 30 sec kit delay and 15 sec to retake your kit isn't much. Most of the times you respawn more then 15 sec away from the spot you died.
