Help this man get back to Mapping!
« on: 12-06-2011, 22:06:57 »
Hai

Long time ago, i started mapping. Well, i did little to be honest, mediocre maps but it was hella fun! i loved it.

Now, i always had a map in my mind and its time to get the stuff running, but this piece of crap doesnt want me to have fun in the editor.

So, i set up everything, Unrar all Rars into their respective folders, run the Editor on Admin Mode/Win XP Compatibility Mode, go to the Mod Manager thingy, select all options and yeah. I think thats all.

Then i create a map, wich i always call Test, smallest size possible and click OK.

Then it crashes.

Funny thing: if i restart the Editor and load the new map, i can edit it, but the map folder is incomplete, files missing, obvius.

Another thing is some "Lag" i get when i run the Editor, like when i rotate, move an object it moves like with lag, you keep your mouse button pressed, move the obect and it doesnt move :/, as soon as you release the button it changes position.

Oh, i have Win7 wich i believe its a problem?

Thanks. And yet again: Help this man get back to Mapping!

fire up Photoshop, then it'll work.

It seems that I have the same problem (I thought it was normal). But don't understand how I can make it with Photoshop...  ::) Can you explain me clearly?

I allowed myself to quote Nissi as I have read about it recently:

It's a little but very annoying issue.

You can solve it with the following procedure:
- start up editor
- load your map
- start photoshop (can be simply the program without any pic.. or whatever you like)
- close photoshop
- now it works.

Had this as well and it drove me crazy. It's a driver or something similar that is not loaded by Vista or Win7. Not sure which other program contain that little driver in the case you don't have photoshop. Download the free trial over at adobe and it works.

cheers
Nissi

Also this from kummitus:
win7 is afaik lacking some dll file that is loaded in winxp and photoshop does load it and fixes the problem.

I hope that explain that and that OPs will not get mad at me for using their post.

 ;)

Well thats good!

Now since that Glitch is caused by Win7, can the crash be caused by Win 7 too? I am missing anything? :/

Can you give us some more details? About your exact steps etc., your hardware and your system?

@jan_kurator: thanks for referring.  :)

@Torenico:

I use the following os: Win7 Professional, 64-Bit. I run as administrator in win xp (sp3) mode.

May I ask how much Rams do you have available?

Can you please try the following:
- open the mod bf2
- try the heightmap setup there
- test it

I'm not sure whether a wrong fh2 editor setup would cause any problems at this point of mapping but it's maybe worth a try.

From what source do you have the editor? Maybe you downloaded a buged one.

Ahh yeah and if you have bf2 installed in C:\Program files then it could collide with UAC if you have it on I guess.

I tried that with BF2 and it crashes.

I have Win 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 64bit
4GB Ram DDR2

About the Source, no idea. Googled BF2 Editor and dled from some of the first links.

Hmm, yeah could be it if hes it installed there. I had older programs colliding with UAC in the past aswell when I switched to win7. Actually it sounds fitting -> no write permission or something.

I can't tell, having bf2 on different HD for ages ;)
