I think Steam is an excellent distribution mechanism for content, I just wish it would work when you're logged on as a standard non-admin user.

Steam works really well now, they ironed out the big problems about 2 years ago.

I really like Darkest Hour too, the gameplay feels more fluid than RO. I dream about RO and DH on UE3, though...

is this i love/hate steam thread or a thread about darkest hour ?

imo they did a good job. sure the graphics (textures) lack some quality and you only have a few hands full of different statics but they placed them well enough to make good maps most of the times.

tank combat is still awful though. when my 17pdr firefly cant 1 shot a stug in the flanks i have tears in my eyes.  and then the king tiger gets beat up by normal shermans. still it is most times fun to play.

i really love their rocket AT-system with assisted loading (a second player loads the rocked for you thus decreasing the ready/reload time significantly)  although i miss the panzerfausts from original RO.
like how they change the whole drum in the webley revolver instead of using a quick loader, never seen that before.

it still is RO with all its flaws and edges but with more semi/automatic weapons rocket AT weapons, some kind of "frontline" spawn system.

fun to play most of the times.

I really love the new handling of the AT rocket launchers. The backblast is deadly and I killed myself several times with it because I forgot to stay away from walls. Also the fact that HEAT charges work like they should is awesome. On that D-Day map with the Canadians I was German and a Canadian camped in the church tower with his MG. So I loaded the Panzerschreck, aimed at the wall of the church tower and fired. The rocket hit the wall, the HEAT jet penetrated it and killed the guy in the tower. That was the most satisfying kill I ever made.
Their tank system sounds cool in theory but unfortunately I haven´t seen much of it in combat. The burning tanks work good and it´s nice to shoot a tank ablaze and see it explode later because the ammo cooks off. But I haven´t seen any mobility kills or destroyed optics so far...

are you sure you didnt hit  through the window and the explosion killed the guy in the tower ?

afaik PR doesnt have bullet penetration on statics, but i could be wrong.

but one thing is true those panzerschreks are great for clearing church towers,  highest score  with 1 shot in church tower was 4 kills :D

IIRC the sustom PR buildings can be penetrated by 7.62 ammunition and above (not including HE ammo, that together with .50 cal ammo and tank shells can destroy the buildings).

I aimed at the wall under the window, I actually saw the rocket explode on the outside of the wall and then smoke coming out of the tower. Also the Devs confirmed that it actually works in-game, so yeah, it had the desired effect ;)

DH looks like FH 0.5
Good potential, but low quality of models.

FH.05? Isn't that a mid version of FH1? .....

If your going to make a comparison at least make a realistic one - sometimes I get the feeling you simply enjoy hearing yourself blab.  ::)

Did you do any of those things Taranov? Where you around in 40/45?

Man, cut the egotistic remarks - it gets on my nerves, which by the way is hard to do.

That doesn't mean the models are bad quality for one. Secondly, if your talking about the interior views where it shows the controls, I wouldn't imagine those being very incorrect. I've been in my share of tanks, ww2 included, and I see a very present resemblance. Its a game, there are limitations, in this case its better to implement it then not.  ::)
