In my opinion the best FH2 maps are those that try to simulate an interesting tactical situation in their gameplay instead of the run of the mill "cap as many flags as possible" type of maps (although those have their place too).
One scenario I always thought was interesting is the situation at the beginning of Operation Market Garden, where 30th Corps was delayed by mixed Fallschirmjäger/SS forces. The following plan was inspired by Purple Heart Lane, although I'm sure it would play quite different.



I mispelled "Valkenswaard".

As you can see in this masterful drawing, the red squares are flags and the connected circles are approximate spawn points. The first two flags along the road have no spawn points at all, but have to be capped by the brits to stop their bleed. The interesting part of this is, that the Germans still spawn close to the road, enabling them to
a) ambush tanks that come from the mainbase and are on their way to the flak flag
b) "cutting hell's highway" by capping back one of the flags
I think this layout would simulate the situation during Market Garden, the difficulties with the supply line and the chaotic nature of the fighting.

The Germans would start out as an infantry force, with spawnable Panzerfaust kits and a lot of pick up AT. The Brits would probably have a platoon worth of tanks from the start (2 Shermans, 2 Fireflies or something). After the Brits have capped the three road flags, they unlock the city flags (with the road flags then becoming unrecappable by the Germans if that is possible) and the gameplay will become more standard rural village fighting, along the lines of Lebisey or Lüttich. The Germans would receive armored support at their mainbase (historically Jagdpanzer IV, but StuGs would do for now). No airforce.

Comments? Do you think it would work out?

FH2 Help / Support / Sudden performance drop

It seems my BF2 resents me for only playing mods.
Here is the problem:
My game has started to lag. I use the same settings I always used (and they always ran nicely), but since yesterday the game lags to a point of unplayability, even on an empty server. I have a good ping in online play, but still lag. Also, the loading and starting times have gone through the roof, I'm loading up to 8 minutes now.
Any ideas?

Reinstalling as we speak.
I know I should be playing 2.2 right now, but I got a weird nostalgia flash. I think it's the best RTS i have ever played: nice gameplay, interesting scenario and I like the graphic style better than Warcraft III. Anybody else here who played this?

So you are on the beach, looking up that cliff. Looks hard, doesn't it? Well, it isn't.

Step1: Get a halfway decent squad. This one is important.

Step2: Go to one of the beached, unenterable boats to get a hook kit. I take the one with the shotgun because it elevates your badass factor by 50%.



Step3: Go to this place directly below the evil German bunker.



Step4: Throw the hook, and throw it high. If it looks like this, you're good to go.



Step5: Climb up until you reach this place. The Squadleader stays here, to provide a constant supply of troops. He may also watch the grenades that fly over his head and hit the beach.



Step6: The assault troops keep climbing until they reach this position. From here you have the perfect staging area to launch assaults on the bunker (use smoke nades for cover and the flamethrower for added awesomeness)





Another imaginary German bites the dust.

That wasn't observed by me but by a friend: The Allies capped the fourth flag but it was still shown as German on the minimap.

The Internet server list is empty. When I uncheck "same mod" I only find a handful of unmodded servers. Also, start and login times seem to be alot longer now. I already reinstalled it once. Any ideas?

edit: hm, apparently the file was corrupted. I'll reinstall it and hope that will fix it.
