Being from the North East United States, primarily western Massachusetts, which is also known for the Salem witch trials, I grew up saying such wonderful phrases as "Wicked awesome" and "that item is wicked!" "shes wicked hot!", speaking in likes, "like, seriously dude I went to his house..." and rolling my R's slightly as all good Mass-holes should, unless your from the border. Its also interesting to think, that of all places on earth, us folks here in Mass speak more like Shakespeare than any other English sect in the world.

I live in northern Rhode Island and a lot of people here (including me) used to say 'wicked' all the time when I was growing up.  I haven't heard it used much anymore, though.  ;D

I have Kaspersky and I do not get a warning of any kind.  You must have done something like what N24 mentioned.

SET IT ON FIRE!!  KEEP IT DEAD!!!

HOW THE HELL DOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN?

If this a joke, we need to go and destroy filefront once and for all!

I agree.  My only real attachment was to the filefront filesharing site, not the forums.  The FH forums are my home and that home is here.

Because my government scares me. I can only hope that something like this wouldn't pass. Although, in a month something else worse will come up, and this bill will be pushed under the rug like always.  :P

Then congratulations, you have avoided becoming a slave to the government and succeeded in becoming a slave to fear!

I have lived 20 years of my life without taking any interest in the government at all and nothing bad has happened that affected me! And unlike what many people seem to think, we are far from a police state in the federal sense.  If anything were to be feared, it would come more directly from the local/state level.

If it isn't as bad as it states, why do they make it seem so awful? Aside from that, I was told by numerous people IRL that they want to push it to be mandatory. They can't (probably) pass it as mandatory. But chances are that it would turn into mandatory. Especially from what I've read as well (information about it provided in this thread).

Nothing about the bill sounds normal.

It sounds so awful because they have to word it in such a specific way that is so technical the average person wouldn't understand or even want to read it all.  :P

I never looked at a House Resolution before, but I would imagine they all sound like that.

And who told you that it is trying to be pushed through as mandatory?  Unless it is someone directly (and I mean DIRECTLY) involved in the process or the federal government, then that person's word is as good as mine.

And as you just plainly said yourself:

I can't see this ever getting off the boards. Our government always tries stupid stuff like this, and the people don't buy into it at all.

So what are you worrying about?  ;)

I wouldnt put it past the Government passing such legislation, just look at the patriot act.

True, stupid legislation like that does go through.  But that did not affect all individuals in the way that a mandatory service would.

You guys should really start reading the posts in the thread.

Well, it is nice to know that I have been using i.e. incorrectly.

And what do you mean read the posts in the thread?  I did read them all...how else would I have known what SirApple said?  :P

EDIT - Oh, your post of Urban Dictionary.  Sorry!  I didn't look for myself because I thought Urban Dictionary was for random "pop-culture" and other such terminology.   ;)

Sorry but that doesn't fly with me. I can make 3 times that, easily.

With that said,

This won't pass.

Cheers :)

That is why it is called volunteer work.  Your primary argument is that it is a mandatory service being pressed upon you, but it is not (at least in its current form and I don't see it passing any other way other than remaining strictly voluntary).

And of course you could make more money than what that program offers, but that doesn't mean anything.  The primary focus of such programs is to expose young people to active volunteer work and such things.  Kids go to camp all the time and receive no compensation at all; this is no different other than the fact that you actually get something out of participating in it if you so choose to do so.

Your arguments and that email notification are full of fear-mongering and are influenced by such (not a personal attack, SirApple!  ;D)

The government could not prosecute any individual for refusing to participate in such a program, either (I am applying this to the hypothetical cases you stated previously of kids being jailed).  You give too much credit to the government...it really is not as omnipotent as you would think.

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1388/show

Taken from the link posted above:
Quote
OpenCongress Summary:

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act would dramatically increase funding for AmeriCorps and other volunteer programs, including those for seniors and veterans. It also establishes a goal of expanding from 75,000 government-supported volunteers to 250,000, and would increase education funding and establish a summer service program for students, paying $500 (which would be applied to college costs) to high-school and middle-school student who participate.

In its current form, the legislation does not include a mandate requiring service.

All this bill is doing is providing for more funding and increased incentives for enrolling in volunteer programs.  I lightly skimmed H.R. 1388, but I did not see any mention of mandatory service and the quoted material above also says there is none.

Even if something like this passed with some sort of mandatory service added on, the federal government could not enforce it (unless I am mistaken).  It would be up to the States and would continue to filter out making no significant impact on those who do not participate in volunteer-based programs.

EDIT - And to make things clear, I am neither for nor against the bill.  If it was indeed the way you guys make it out to be, I would be very much against it.  However, I don't feel like this will have any kind of impact on my life or those younger than I in any significant way.

Yes, this is off-topic, but if this is what Sir.Apple was referring to:

What does i.e. stand for when you give an example or such (ie. like this?)

Unless someone provides some credible sources, I can tell you that what that email notice said is completely false.  Most email notices like that are false to begin with and are not a credible source.

The idea of getting the general public to commit themselves to doing community service work is something that should be addressed, in my opinion.  However, like I said in my previous post, the people would have to be given something worthwhile in compensation and it would have to remain strictly voluntary.

And like Tiemann was saying, such a plan would never work in the United States; therefore, the facts presented by the email notification are utter BS.

Parachutes from the 40's weren't like the ones we got today. Nowadays you can steer, back then you just floated down. The wind did the steering I guess  :P

Yea.  However, the ability of a single man on the ground with a rifle being able to pick off individual troops parachuting towards the ground is too great in FH2. In FH1, it was much more difficult to shoot down a guy on a parachute without a highly accurate gun (like the flak38) or a machine-gun.

In FH2, I can pick off a guy some meters away in the distance parachuting without the need to be directly beneath him.

Modding / Re: Modders around?

I am a Gamer!  ;D Playing FH1 all the time. They invited me to test FH1. After the Testing was over for Mappack 6, I waited for FH2...........Still............................ (They slacking) I wondered if I could help a bit. Modeling and Texture i though coulnd be too hard so I tried. Thats its. Learned Modeling and Texturing not long ago. I never visited a School for CG. Thats it.

Really?  You have some great talent, Toddel!  I thought you were a long time modder judging by the quality of your work. :)  I thought you were a dev for FH1, though?  Or have you only made FH2-related things?

I, sadly, do not have a modding history to share.  I have had (and do have) many ideas for maps and general stuff like that.  I do not have the patience, artistic skill (in a physical sense), or programs to push myself into modelling or texture work.  I do hope to get myself into mapping one of these days...I have made half-hearted attempts many times before.   :(

It sounds like it is for community service, not the military.  I am for getting more people involved in their communities, but not in the form of mandatory service.  I am 20 years old and I have done shit to aid my community.  I hope to change that in the future.

However, I would be in favor of a plan that provides regulated incentives for community service; things like giving the adult a tax break, or providing a student or young adult with money towards college depts.

EDIT - Oh, and please site the source from which that article was taken.  It sounded pretty biased in its word choice from my point of view.
