Off-Topic / Online Military Surplus Stores
« on: 28-08-2014, 12:08:22 »
I'm looking to find some items and thought it would be a good idea to list some tried and proven stores across Europe. Americans are naturally allowed to post theirs as well.

For stores located in Finland, I've only used Varusteleka, but there are a few: (use Translate) (use Translate)

The items I'm specifically looking for are:
- 60mm-to-40mm gas mask adapter
- 40 mm gas mask filter (sealed, vacuum packed if possible, exp. date 2020+)

On Amazon UK there's none, and on Amazon DE they don't ship those items to Finland. There's a US site with a very wide selection including both of these items, however they ask almost triple the original price for shipping costs alone ($50+):

Comments? Suggestions?

Off-Topic / Hurricane Sandy
« on: 29-10-2012, 17:10:14 »
Quote from: Wiki
Hurricane Sandy is a massive, late-season tropical cyclone that has affected Jamaica, Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the southeastern United States, and is currently affecting the East Coast of the United States and Eastern Canada.

Any of our FH friends in the affected areas? What's it like over there?

(General hurricane/natural disaster discussion thread)

Like the topic says, all BF games are 10€ until midnight today 20.09.2012. This includes Battlefield 3.

If you had doubts about spending 40-50€ on something you might not even enjoy, this is your chance.

For a sponsored contest, Pitbull will perform at the Wal-Mart that gets the most “Likes” on Facebook. A clever prankster is waging a campaign make the Kodiak, Alaska store location the winner.

Feel like sending "Mr. Worldwide" to some hickville all the way over in no-one-gives-a-shit-Alaska?

I do!

Just 'like' the Walmart Kodiak page and hope it gets the most likes so Pitbull gets sent over there to perform. Apparently Kodiak is an island outside Alaska with a population of about 6000, yet the page has almost 40000 likes so far.

Gaming / Max Payne 3
« on: 19-04-2012, 21:04:14 »
Max Payne 3 is to be released May 15, 2012. This time around the game will be produced by Rockstar Games instead of Remedy Entertainment who made the last two entries in the series. I was skeptical of this change at first, but the video clips found at their website seem intriguing. Also, the game will have multiplayer.

So, anyone else played the earlier games? Psyched about the next game yet?

So it turns out zombies are cool. To avoid spamming up the TWD topic, let's just dump all the zombie-related discussion here.

To start things off, here's my zombie apocalypse kit:

Melee: Aluminum bat

Sidearm: .45 cal. pistol (faster than reloading in tense situations)

Main weapon: Something with the following properties;
-Low maintenance
-Low recoil
-5.56 hollow point ammunition (or 7.62 if recoil is low)
-ACOG 4x scope

Equipment: Breaching shotgun, crowbar (silent breach), 24h food supply, 10l camelbak, bite/scratch/knife-resistant clothing (kevlar?), knife (avoid combat use)

Gaming / Hitman: Absolution

Hitman: Absolution is the next game in the Hitman franchise. We'll probably see a release in early 2012.
They just released the latest footage showing a playthrough of the Chicago Library map.

Community questions asked and answered:

As a long-time fan of the Hitman games, I'm looking forward to this one as well. Hopefully, the fact that David Bateson (47's voice actor) and Vivienne McKee (Diana's voice actress) aren't in on the upcoming game won't change it for the worse. Also, Jesper Kyd who made the soundtrack for all earlier games has been replaced by Peter Kyed. I'm also a bit skeptical towards the new 'Instinct'-feature as well as the "tag and kill" mechanism, but luckily we'll get the option to turn that on and off.

So far it looks to be a great game. Any other fans on these forums?

Off-Topic / Walpurgis Night
« on: 29-04-2011, 13:04:45 »
Quote from: wiki
Walpurgis Night is a traditional spring festival on 30 April or 1 May in large parts of Central and Northern Europe. Its celebration is associated with dancing and with bonfires.

Quote from: wiki
In Finland, Walpurgis day is, along with New Year's Eve and Midsummer, the biggest carnival-style festival held in the streets of Finland's towns and cities. The celebration, which begins on the evening of 30 April and continues to 1 May, typically centres on copious consumption of sparkling wine and other alcoholic beverages.

So, what are your plans for tomorrow and the 1st of May? For Finns I'm guessing picnics and partying? :)

Just happened to see a video that Flippy favorited on youtube and it made me lust for a pacific campaign in FH2. I believe it's all CGI so it kinda looks like a game as well. Oh how wonderful it would be...

Off-Topic / XWW2 release soon?
« on: 28-11-2009, 18:11:51 »
Looks like XWW2 is getting ready to release their first public build to the BF2 community.

Quote from: mschoeldgen's blog, Today at 11:17:02 AM
Ready to release !

After a month of beta testing we seem to have a well-working mod. Its unavoidable that there's some things i'd need to add, fix or improve but first lets show it to the world and the community.
Installer will probably be published today or tomorrow . My thanks go to our very small team and the contributors  ! They all did an incredible job in working on the mod despite all the obstacles and RL issues.
And of course lets not forget the beta testers especially our friends at BFSP - we would have missed some very serious issues without their tests and suggestions.
So, enjoy the game and our mod and don't forget to feed us with your input about everything you like and everything you don't like.

Off-Topic / Can't sleep
« on: 09-10-2009, 20:10:38 »
So, yeah. I haven't slept an entire night for about a month now.

I've tried the following so far:
-warm drink just before bed
-an hour or so before going to bed I've stayed away from 'exciting' things like movies
-hard exercise a couple of hours beforehand
-eating; both light and heavy meals a couple of hours before bedtime

The only thing that's worked so far is drinking all night. As soon as I get home and my head touches the pillow I'm gone. However, I can't do this every day and it isn't exactly a refreshing kind of sleep.

Any tips that have helped you or that you've heard could help?

When you go up the ladder at the static MG42 at this flag you somehow bounce around and can't get into it or move around correctly. Eventually you just fall down to the ground again.

Off-Topic / Marches

As most here are military fanatics one way or the other I figured, MARCHES.

Share your favorite marches!

Among my favorites are Vöyrin marssi and Porilaisten marssi.

Vöyrin marssi (The march of Vöyri)

Porilaisten marssi (The march of Pori), also the march of the entire Finnish Defence Forces.
