Off-Topic / Egypt
« on: 26-01-2011, 16:01:38 »
When last year in Iran there were protests against the gouvernment a young woman died and all we heard and saw for weeks was the pictures/video of her laying dead in the street to feul the protests.

Yesterday there were 3 Egyptians killed during the protests against a dictator that has been in power for 30 years, twitter and facebook are blocked by the gouvernment.

Where is the criticism? Why isnt CNN running this story 24/7 with the pictures and names of the victims?

rhetorical questions of course

wtf... he is gonna rewrite history? Hitler and stalin were pure evil, first he makes a movie about bush making him seem like some failure, now we gotta see hitler and stalin in "perspective?". People dont need to know how all of those evil things happened, all we gotta teach our kids is making them watch shindlers list and saving private ryan. There is nothing wrong with our current history, if you deny it you go to jail anyway, we give the holocaust as much airtime as anything else that happened in WW2. Love it or leave it oliver stone, its not cause you sacrificed for your country and me playing call of duty all day that you know what you talk about....

A US Army deserter is to meet German politicians in Berlin as he tries to secure asylum in the country.

Andre Shepherd left his military base, in southern Germany, in April 2007, after serving in Iraq. Eighteen months later, he applied for asylum on moral grounds, claiming the Iraq war was illegal. Tristana Moore reports.

So should we let him stay yes/no, and once we grant him asylum will he be out of reach for the military police?

Off-Topic / Google earth just got alot more awesome

So for the past year there was the historical imagery option that let you switch between different layers of satelite footage, usually from the past 10 years or so, you could select imagery that was a bit older but higher quality, and check what has changed over the past years.

I admit i am a google earth / wikimapia ( cause of the wiki aspect and it works in a browser ) addict. I can spend hours scanning mostly Germany for military bases and what not.

But whats really cool this week areal recon footage of Berlin got added, from the year 1945 ( only certain parts ) and 1953 ( all of berlin ). its quite shocking footage, 1945 shows the total destruction, not a single house with a roof.... all you see are walls. 1953 shows that half of berlin is pretty much torn down flat to the ground , and the rest is starting new build.
Whats cool to see is how much has changed, its great to see how certain parts looked like before the berlin wall, you can see historical buildings on the 1953 layer that sadly got torn down since.

So dont hesitate and download google earth now , below link to the latest beta which i prefer

ill try to keep this thread updated with some neat comparison footage if you guys want.

PS : another good areal footage source is bing maps birds eye view

Cant wait for streetview to arrive in germany
