ok, found the registry part.

and in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ " are two folders, "ergc" and "wdc"

also ive just noticed in the window on the right are 4...."things", the window appears to look a little like this

Name             Type                  Data
(Default)         Reg_SZ             (Value not set)
InstallDir         Reg_SZ             C;\Bttlefield 2
Language        Reg_SZ             English
Locale             Reg_SZ             en_US

Im not sure what this means to you (if anything) but i hope it helps.

Hi there Stubbfan.

I deleted the forgottenhope 2 from my documents folder (i didnt see any battlefield 2 files there, although i did delete them before but it seems non have reapeared)

Also unfortunatly im not sure what a registery in this context means, im not too technologicly minded but if you could explain it step by step in laymans terms ide much appreciate it  :)

At the moment im just trying to find more "clues" as to why this isnt working...

One thing ive noticed is that i can only see one new map on the single player map list, St Vith. And also rather curious when i click on this one and click start i get a window pop up and ask me to select a sever before pressing start. (as opposed to the screen going black and then to desktop).

This might mean nothing but im grasping at anything at the moment.

I have an MSN messenger account if that helps? lest i fear we are at the end of the line (personally i blame Windows 7, ive never had this trouble with other operating systems)

Just installed "teamviewer" so if this works im happy to allow you to have a go at fixing this. (how does this work exactly?)

No, nothing

Its like an engine that wont ignite, thres no initial spark of activity or anything, just a bit of noise from the computer then it just stops.

BF2 wont start at all.

i click on the icon, i get a BF2 EA games intro picture in the middle of the screen (i think its a tank or something? somethings "BF2-ish" anyway) then it disapears, the computer starts to make a noise as if its loading then nothing, it just stops.

I dont get as far as the EA games animation, the intro animation or the menu or anything like that.

i didnt get that far with BF2, as soon as i click on the icon the BF2 EA pictures comes up, the computer wurres a bit then nothing, as if i didnt click it.

I only found out i was using 1.5 because there was a FH2 logo (somewhere, its been deleated in one of the "purges" ive done to fix this) that opened as if i was starting BF2, the menu came up like BF2 and i got as far as i could with FH2 (CTD when click multiplayer or when on singleplayer map list) and it had 1.5.3153-802.0 in the bottom corner.

Right, just installed BF2 again and then patch 1.5 but is still get the same message "you have a newer version installed". Its almost as if my copy of the game has a newer version already in it (yet when i first played FH2 a few years back i went through all these steps no problem, BF2, the patch then FH2. Very odd.)

I havent bothered trying to install FH2 again untill the patch thing is sorted out.

What shall i trynow?

Ok, went through the entire computer personally and then typed "battlefield" into the computers search to find any remnants, now everythings deleated, I'll try to reinstall BF2 again and then the new patch.

Thank you your your persistance with me, i know this must get tedious  :-[

Just tried to install the new patch and it tells me i have a newer one installed straight away, without doing anything to BF2 or affecting it in anyway.

Ah, ok. I'll do it if you think it'll help.

Also, is it important that BF2 itself doesnt run? its not something im worried about as i say as i have no intention of playing it, but i figure this might have something to do with FH2 not working right

Edit: just installed BF2 again and BF2 wont launch

Ok, finally downloaded patch V1.5 using utorrent, tried to install it and a message comes up telling me ive already got a newer version installed.

(also ive just checked via the FH2 menu screen i have 1.53153-802.0 which im told is V1.5, so it looks like it patched)

Im starting to run out of ideas, any suggestions where i go from here?

Downloading a the patch via a different torrent could well be the key to this.

Before, i downloaded the new patch and also FH2 and a few days ago we worked out that the FH2 file was corrupt so i installed using a different torrent thing, so i now im in the middle of downloading the v1.5 patch with the new torrent thing.

Its defenatly worth a shot.
