Title: Panzer III M DAK
Post by: Marder on 26-08-2010, 16:08:02
Hi all, this is my first post here (sry for my english). After being playing FH and FH2 for years i would like to make a constructive suggestion-question (i`ve been looking for similar suggestions but i only found a closed topic).
Here it goes:
Could be possible to see ingame someday this beauty in Mareth Line or other later NA maps?

I know the devs are very busy with Normandy and the next theatre, but this addition could be useful and would add more variety to the game.
Sorry if i'm mistaken.

From the How To: Suggest topic above this one.

Another important thing to remember before posting a suggestion is that Forgotten Hope has a limited development team. We cannot possibly make every single vehicle and weapon for this mod, so we have to make priorities. As a result, very rare vehicles will probably not be included any time soon, so suggesting them is of little use. On the other hand, we have qualified historical researchers, so suggesting vehicles like the Sherman tank and Panzer IV is also pointless.

We already have many versions of the PzIII. (J early, J late, and N). I don't think this will make such a super change that we need it right now.

I think it has more frontal armor? Considering how africa is imba atm due to higher 2 Pd Firepower, it actually might make a difference. Not sying it isn't important, just saying considering the model is already done, it is worth a shot.

Maybe replace other long barreled Panzer 3's with this one on Mareth?

It wouldnt matter. Front of PZIII is impenetrable to 2PDR fire. The Ausf M only had extra frontal armor.

In wich the ausf L is a better choise. As 250 ausf M where made and 650 ausf L

There's plenty of PzIIIs in FH2 IMO, I'd rather have another a new tank destroyer like the hetzer. :D

Sure, but unlike the III M, the JP 38(t) can't be used in any of the current maps ;)

Then someone needs to make a map that they were used in hehe.

The popular rumour says that this is indeed the case ;D

And the III M, I guess we see it at least on the east front.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the Panzer III M could resist better a frontal shot of the Crusader III? (instead of ausf. J late)
IMO it would be a pity not to use something that has been done nicely

6PDR and sherman would still rip trough it  ;) with ease

Unfortunately, FH2 hasn't moved to any of the areas of combat that it was in :P  And I do look forward to it having a slow and labourious reload time :)

As for the Pz3M/L, would be nice to see them on Mareth, but its not that major, as there is no major gameplay difference to be had.

I actually would like to see them. But I don't expect to have time for 2.3, as they're low priority.

Same as J late with more frontal armour. Actually, our PZ III N ingame atm is lacking the increased armour on the turret. Also, they can be used on Lebisey (where the only PZIIIs in Normandy fought).

Well ... the hetzer had the problem that its gun wasnt mounted in the center of the front ... instead it was a further on the right side so that you had problems to relaod it at times.
But still its low silouette made it an excellent tank hunter for its price. hope it will be ingame one day ... right now i perform better with stugs than panthers ... just stay in ambush position. I cant wait to make some ambushes with the even smaller hetzer (its not as wide as the stug III) - that and it has even better frontal armor 60mm sloped vs 80 on the stug ... so it should stand sherman hits better :P

i dont see how it can be a problem? most of those guns (if not all) where reloaded from the left side anyway, and in a normal tank (leopard A5) you dont have anything to do at all on the right side of the breach

The Jagdpanzer 38(t) was so small that the crew had almost no room to move inside. The loader was also positioned awkwardly so he had to reach over the breech to reload the gun.

And no, almost all cannon in WW2 were reloaded from the right side, including on tanks :P

hmm must have mixed up then ^^

anyway, removed the plate behind the breach would made reloading fairly easier, seen interior models of the tank now

lol :P  Yeah, it was simply a horribly designed tank.  Sure it was functional as a tiny, good TD, but the crews hated the things with a vengeance.

Bump!
Hehe, found this thread while googling.
Decided to do it as an L instead for ingame, so it may be used on earlier maps. Difference include the smoke launchers and rear exhaust.

I'm not sure if you are serious or not. At the moment, there are more British than German armoured cars.

This "new" German tank is few minute's work compared to a whole new model.

but british armoured cars are iconic to the british army, we are missing many important types of wich thousands and thousands where produced and used. it is like the panzers of the wehrmacht!

But yeah it should take aslong as a new model. Plus we will be honouring a Rad model. That counts for alot
But the Ausf L did had smoke launchers? right?

Never forget

Well you're quite the beggar :P Unfortunately not up to me, and I'd rather recommend modelers to do brand new content, instead of new content which would replace only current. But we do not a good amount of armoured cars: greyhound, daimler, dingo, dorchester, marmon, deacon. Not to mention the most iconic British armoured transport: the universal carrier.

But don't think just because one suggestion gets in another will. The Panzer III series I did entire re-exports on for upcoming Russia, which is the reason I did the later DAK ones as well, not because it was suggested or reminded of it.

Thanks for this Kev. So Ausf. L will be at least in Mareth Line, right?

Imho the Panzer III is the best master piece made by Rad. Actually, I remember that update as one of the best (or the best) of FH history. May he rest in peace.

Another important question for you Kev, will the 50mm KwKs keep their PzG? I've heard you say the majority of the higher calibers are going, but the 50mm was made in quantity (1 mil existing in Dec. 1943) because it kept the 50mm effective. Same with 20mm, but more for the fact you could make 9 rounds of 20mm for the amount 1 75mm would take.

I can cite some sources if you need, we have had this conversation in depth at WaW.

Panzer II and Puma could use their SAP back on that note.
