Title: Where did the Filefront Community go?
Post by: foodmaniac2003 on 30-03-2009, 02:03:44
I'm just wondering where the rest of them went. Did FF have to close cause of monetary issues?

The new forum looks great though! I'm kinda sad that so much forum "history" and some "landmark" threads are going away forever.

I heard from Donutz that n0e is setting up a new forum this week. I bet a lot of the FileFront community will go there.

Lot's of other's went to the rogue:

http://www.therogueforums.com

But as Lightning said, n0e (the forum community manager) is setting up a new forum which he hopes to have completed in the comming week. If you checkout the rogue forum you will find a thread (here (http://www.therogueforums.com/filefront-preservation-forum/85351-message-jeff-n0e-mills.html)) with updates regarding this.

Also, the network part of FF such as BF2files is in the progress of moving to the following location to continue hosting files and stuff like that:
http://www.strategyinformer.com/

It's a shame that the old forums went down, even n0e or anybody else of the FF manamgement wasn't told untill they pulled the plug. :S That's also why they didn't got to leave a message on "sorry lads these forums are down because blablabla".  Basically Ziff Davis closed down FileFront as FF announced on their website:

Quote
Dear FileFront User:

We regret to inform you that we are forced to indefinitely suspend the FileFront site operations on March 30, 2009. If you have uploaded files, images or posted blogs, or if you would like to download some of your favorite files, please take this opportunity to download them before March 30th when the site will be suspended.

We would like to give a warm thank you to all of you who have been part of the FileFront communities we have built together. Your support has had a meaningful impact for all of us here at FileFront. Again, we want to give you a sincere “thank you” for your support over the years and wish you all the very best.

Keep gaming alive,

FileFront Management and Team.

I think its odd how some of the filefront staff like goody, dread, etc, started a new gaming forum if nOe is working on starting FF back up, you know? This is going to cause some confusion.

They said they're going to keep the FH subforums regardless of FH moving to another forum/host.   ;D

But it doesn't really contain much if anything regarding the survival of GF. So...

I'll just quote the highlights of what I said then..

Quote from n0e:
"Hey all. I know many of you have eagerly been awaiting any sort of news as to what is going on and what we plan to do for the future.

To those that don't know I, along with a tremendous amount of help from folks like Phenix, and Ronnie are making backups of all of the network sites and we plan on moving to a new network of fan sites that will be open soon. For legal reasons we may not be able to include the items such as reviews, potd's and other various bits of information on the sites. However, with the permission of the modders we will retain all of the files. Those who do not wish to continue having their files hosted on the new network need only contact me after the first of the sites are online. I'll see to it that they are promptly removed per your request. We will not hassle you about it or tell you to '***** off'. Just remember that we're restoring a database so please don't get upset after seeing them initially. We respect your copyrights.

There will be forums up and running sometime hopefully next week. When they are up I will provide a link here so you know where to go from then on. I certainly hope to see many familiar faces and even new ones. There will be a clean slate for those coming back as well. If you were banned for whatever reason, you are allowed to return and given a second chance.

The new network and forums will have one more thing that I'm sure will make everyone happy. There will be NO corporate involvement. Things will be run by people who actually play games for people who play games.

I'll have more news for everyone as it's available. I wish to thank everyone for their continued patience and I'm certainly cannot wait to have the good parts of FileFront return while just trimming out the bad.

Thanks!
Jeff 'n0e' Mills"

Its a sad day, all the original BF1942 sites are gone now. :(

BF42.com, BFCentral, now BF1942Files.com.

Only PBF remains.

GF was for general gaming (general topics and various games, plus it was the feedback area for the network sites such as bf2files.com) so they aren't the same.

I doubt many will, i wont anyways. I dont see the point of following 2 forums on the exact same subject.

As for PBF, I wouldn't recommend it.

I agree.  My only real attachment was to the filefront filesharing site, not the forums.  The FH forums are my home and that home is here.

Question now is:  Do we want to go back?

Also, take this opportunity to back up any PM's, threads, or anything you might want saved.  Hell, even moving some of the old stickies over here might not be a bad idea.

Even if hypothetically the forum does go back permanently, I see no reason to go back... FH is independent now and finally has its own forums. This was a long time coming, and FF or no FF, it needs to stay this way.

I'm quite suprised, atleast it allows us to salvage precious information. For me that would be the bug reports that were never closed and remained open. Other then that, I am anxious to hear what the hell went on there in the last week, last 24 hours and what is in the pipe for the future. Is FF saved? Was it a bad joke? Something else? Then I will decide wether to go with the new forums (strategy informer) or the old gaming forums. Regardless, I'm here to stay when it comes to FH. And no,  I don't forsee them moving back unless something really fucked up would happen that would force them back.

Yeah, stay here I say, or this is going to turn into a game of musical chairs with that 40's German beer keller music playing that they always hav echoeing in the background in WW2 FPS's and  in some films critical / tense scenes ... Navarone, Eagels Dare radio operator scene.
Title: Re: Where did the Filefront Community go?
Post by: Sir Apple on 01-04-2009, 18:04:06
I say stay here.

We all know that moving around back and forth is no good for a community. Aside from that, look at all the active members on this forum already. Isn't that what FH wanted? Many of them stated that they didn't post on filefront because they simply didn't like it. When FH had filefront forums, there really weren't many active FH forum users. Nothing compared to now. This forum just went up, and there are like, what, almost 300 registered users? A ton of which are active.

If FH goes back, I don't think I will. Its just somewhat, annoying, I mean, all of this forum switching over the past week.  :-\

I'll be mainly on this forum too, but if the old forums don't go down again they are still good as an archive of sorts, especially of old FH1 stuff that still hasn't been reposted on the new forum.

They might, but it's  manual thing and so far they only did it once in order to ease the server load a bit. And no, nobody was really happy about it though for the sake of performance it was the only option. That are instable and slow forums.

And yes, at this moment their forum is also a bit slow and has some errors but that's a different subject all together. Hehe.
