The FH2 Wiki: Community Help
« on: 21-12-2010, 05:12:18 »
So, officially we have a wiki page, but we don't have a Wikipedia page. As such, I have decided to start working on one. But I don't know the complete history of FH1/2, and I have a limited amount of time to work on this, amongst other things, so I'm asking for the community's help. I will post the rules for this job below.

Rules:
-I AM THE ONLY ONE TO EDIT THE ARTICLE! I have an account and will be tracking edits. Any unauthorized edits will be reverted.
-The article will contain information about both FH1 and FH2
-It should be short, but detailed. We don't need to list every vehicle in both mods, but rather give an approx. value
-This thread will serve as a place for discussion! Post your ideas and paragraphs for the article here. I will not tolerate spam or nonsense, and those posts will be deleted.
-This article will be in English. We need not worry about other languages at this point and time.

The article needs to reference a lot of external websites and other Wikipedia pages. The reason previous attempts at FH1/2 Wikipedia articles didn't work is because they didn't have a lot of the above mentioned.

So, let's get the creative juices flowing. You can find the new article with the work I've done on it below.

It'd be best to avoid having what happened to the last Wikipedia page of ours to happen.

Priority No.1 would be to find outside sources that credit us. Those few magazine article reviews, perhaps Mod DB's stuff with all our nominations, and I think a couple internet reviewers glanced our way.

Hopefully, that'll keep it afloat.

Additionaly FH was featured at lest twice on TV

- Featured on Giga TV (german tv channel about computers) on May 23rd 2008
http://forums.filefront.com/forgotten-hope-general-discussion/363347-fh2-giga-tv-nowwww.html

- Featured on Giga TV with two formers devs (ACES and Armin Ace) being part of the show March 1st, 2004 ?
http://forums.filefront.com/forgotten-hope-general-discussion/113740-giga-impressions.html
http://forums.filefront.com/forgotten-hope-general-discussion/113592-preview-gigatv.html

Would be cool if anybody who still has those articles could look up the exact release dates (issues of the magazines).
Also it would be cool if we knew what the show on TV was called and when exactly it happened.

Who cares about wikipedia if they can delete whatever they like with bullshit reasons. Keep Fh's own wikipage going strong.

well, we care  :) otherwise azreal wouldnt have done this post.

Wikipedia is doing it right, you need incoming links from other websites or wikipedia entries that are relevant for the same subject as your entry. There are no shortcuts, and wikipedia dont care about how cool or awesome FH2 is, it cares about if there are other websites/entries with high relevance that links to you. (the relevance is calculated by sci-fi futuristic alghoritms done by Matrix robots that visits all websites), if you aren't relevant, Wiki deletes your entry, as it isn't a MySpace page.

I used to whine a lot because of that.

Well PoE, Finnwars, Silentheroes, got their own page, but FH2, which is arguably the second biggest BF mods can't and being deliberately prevented to have one?

Anyway, we can't say anything freely djinn, we have to use the reworded phrases and sentences out of external sources (which some are already given by Knoffhoff), even includes when explaining the physics of the game that everyone can try by themselves. We used to write anything we want just because we know FH2 and sourced all of it to the devs directly.

April 2004 issue. It was large 4 page extension for Battlefield Vietnam review but for some odd reason that part of the article can't be found on their website... So its not much use to you.

You need to think of Wiki articles as neutral essays. You cannot state ANYTHING without a source. Even using the FH2 website will count as a source. If you don't have sources of it's existence, GG.

Apart from the stuff already said, I think you should take care to leave everything pertaining the original BF games out of the article. So skip the explaining about what kind of game it is, just link to BF.
FH2 is the game, DarklyDreamingDexter is the name.
