He's my captain in our AF company. I'll forward him to this.

Kind of long, but they fit!

I know it isn't exactly the biggest focus, nor most remarkable aspect of the Eastern War, but I'd like to point out the importance and ferocity of the air war in the east.

The Eastern front probably had the most lower altitude air-to-air encounters in the entire war and close-air-support was of high importance due to large armor formations and fortifications.

Low scrappers like the I-16, early YaK series, and the LaGG series were the mainstays of the Red AF with MiGs used up high and supplemented by Lend Leased low-altitude P-39s (you know, those fighters discarded by the west that MADE aces in Russia). Later, the YaK-9 and La series tipped the scales.

The low altitude fighting was also factored into the FW190's development.

One must also not forget about the Hungarian and Romanian AFs (planes like the IAR series), and the Italian AF (the MC 202s and 205s and such).

We all know about the bombers, but a slightly more diverse selection of fighters would be nice as well, especially with the variety of fighters seen in the East.

--------------

As for a map, I'd be interested in something that would display the close-in, devastating combat of the Eastern front. Something like a smaller-scale battle of a factory and railroad complex (say in Stalingrad) with the Russians having to take T-34s from off the assembly line into battle (double-spawns for vehicles can be used and such).

One can also turn this sort of case as well and display the German fight to the death at the end of the campaign.

The feeling of the maps can be important. Condensing maps for city fights (even with armor) can allow for bigger and better firefights, with bigger wide open maps giving a sense of scale to a battle.

Although it is sad to see him go, at least his story had a happy ending.

RIP

This just in: the 105 marshmallow gun on the Pz4 is oodles of fun.

It's a mini-lol cannon on a faster, smaller tank! It's especially fun to see rushing light tanks and some lighter mediums get vaporized by the thing. I can pop Hetzers sometimes, too! Plus you can still damage bigger stuff (although not as much) without attracting as much attention.

...and it only takes 7-8 seconds to reload.

It has been a while since I've been a mid-tier German medium, yes.

Might be nice to synchronize those.

Mirror balance isnĀ“t the answer to everything!
I'm just talking about the set-up and throwing times. Not the power or throw distance.

It allows players (especially new ones) to get the throwing habits down no matter what side they are on.

... Now for next year. Releasing the Western Front Winter maps & then the beginning of the Easten Front will most certainly assure that FH2 gets a very good showing in next years MOTY 2011.
...

Once you win, then you can't win again at ModDB (iirc). But be sure that the devs still have some nice things in store. :)
Well, honorable mentions are always nice.  ;)

I feel that the fanboyism on both sides won't completely go away. However, I feel that both sides will turn out to be more mature to each other in the future with both mods squarely on the big golden map.

I feel it shall be another Golden Age for the Battlefield 2 mods. It'll be sweet to experience it first hand.

Yeah, I heard about the accuracy decrease. I was expecting counterbattery fire in most games, but apparently it's uneconomical to try it without an actual spot on one.

Also @ Siben:

You can do the whole rush for scout exp thing, but if you actually want to help heavies in times of need, shadow them for a bit until they seem to wait and camp (try an guess if the enemy is in a similar position ahead), and go ahead and try to jet out there, run parallel to them with some jukes mixed in and try to jet to safety.

You might spot some things out for your guys to snipe at and with luck, you can survive. I agree that light tanks in big tank fights have little chance to do damage, so scouting is really the only way to go for them. It's a bit depressing in that respect. However, once you hit the T-34 with that chain gun 57mm, it gets lolzy.

OAN:
One thing I'm noticing much more is being spotted (even when stationary) and unable to see advancing enemies (sometimes TDs, sometimes not). It's usually a culprit of the bushes, but it's annoying when you take fire from 4+ tanks and arty almost right in front of you and all you can do is guess based on their tracers.

This is even with lower tier stuff (hetzers, PzIVs, etc.), so some of it is even without someone maxing camo and getting the camo net. It's getting a little crazy.

Mines are restricted to the kit. When you die, you drop the kit and if you pick it up again, they should stay. When their kit is despawned, the mines go as well.

It would be nice to take them off of that and give them their own lifetime. As Natty said, putting up a minefield (only 5 mines total per guy with 3 on the kit) can be a waste of time, especially when the best way to clear them is to kill one person. Kind of sad how you need to get them down then hide in the deepest darkest place to keep them up, and even then aren't confirmed for kills.

Putting less restrictions (timed releasing, prone-only, etc.) on releasing them can help that, as FH1 mines went down quick, wasting less time.

At their current state, I think AT mines should go pickup only and the engineer kit given lunchboxes (gabelte ladungs) and satchels/stickienades/comp-b. Many people use mines in a similar fashion, anyways. Run up to tank and place a mine under it. Only difference is you don't know how long the tank will sit in one place (and they must be), and it's an auto-kill unless it can take 2+ mines or you're killed and mines go away. Mines also can't be used against dismounted infantry.

If such a system is done, the thrown AT weapons need a bit of looking at, too. GLs seem a bit underpowered, stickienades can be thrown, and comp-b gives little indication when it's being actually thrown. There's also a wide range of set-up/throwing times between them. Might be nice to synchronize those.

@ 2 man tanks:

Wouldn't it be unrealistic to unload a round as one switches from gunner to driver and when switching back must reload the round?

I'm unsure of PR's tank reloading system, but that was how it was done for early FH2 tank destroyers (the Marder III and Deacon).

Might be a good idea and try to tackle that, as nobody can play as the loader. Most medium-heavy tanks had a specialist gunner and loader, not just 2 jobs in one guy.

RO sort of went the 2-in-1 approach, but reloads would be paused, not canceled, when switching out.

I <3 T1 Heavy sometimes. I've got everything upgraded and just working towards to M6, which looks like more of the same but with thicker front armor and a potential 90mm gun.  8)

That T2 I damaged? It tried to ram me from behind during a duel with their heavies. He only hurt himself.  ;D

And OMG, I killed a KV-3 while it was slightly distracted by an Easy 8. Even deflected a few of his rounds, and I didn't SS it. :(

Lainer's in Maine? And Wilhelm's in Connecticut?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!! New England isn't completely void!

Haha, I actually live in the tiny space located to the east of Connecticut and south of Massachusetts.  Some call it Rhode Island.

I need to stop posting at 3 am, don't I.  :-\

Meh, geography's not my strong-suit anyways.

So, today is the big day...

Sadly, I once again think we will be listed as an honourable mention.
See? Now you feel happy.

Either be wrong or be happy, or be right. Pessimism works wonders.  8)

So, what happens now that we're MOTY? I don't just mean the update, but what'll happen with those prize-things?
