Allied Anti-tank guns
« on: 05-05-2009, 01:05:52 »
One thing I noticed in FH1 was a lack of Allied anti-tank guns. Specifically ,there were no 17 pounders or 76mm M5s, even though these two vehicles were very prevalent. It would be nice to see these in FH2, especially as they saw action in Normandy, and prior to the Battle of the Bulge around half of US tank destroyer battalions used M5s. Besides, the 17 pounder would come in handy for dealing with the odd KT.

Hes talking about Normandy which would make all those points valid. Please let us have 1 KT in Normandy.

and he was talking about FH1 (didnt saw that)
so yes in FH1 there was quite a lack of allied at guns, there was the 6pdr and  the 2pdr then you get the zis-3 on and that was it ohh and the SA L-37 french thingy.

not sure if there will be 17pdrs and the american m5 since they adapted the british 6pdr  as M1 57mm AT gun which would be a good placeholder until maybe later new guns "arrive"

No, bring it in FH2.25. Normandy is already a huge selling point, save the kingtiger (and perhaps Jagdpanther) to advertise one of the "smaller" updates.

I'm looking forward to blatting some panzers with some 17pdr APDS shot.  Mind you, I don't want to see any 17pdrs spawning at forward bases - only at bases held by the brits at the start.

17Pdr was used in Tunisia in a form of 25/17Pdr Pheasant.
We need this.  Just because.

M5 produced in small numbers.
Too big, same penetration than M1 AT gun.
17-pdr good gun, but inside Firefly or Achilles looks better ;)

The Allies, in particular the US and UK put their emphasis on mobile anti tank platforms like the M-10, M-36, M-10C, Archer, and Challenger, and Sherman Firefly.

The US 76mm M5 anti tank gun was IIRC used at battalion level and some were used during Bulge and at Bastogne but in general saw very little action.

Brits used 17lbr Pheasant guns in Tunisia but  most saw very little action as towed guns mostly due to the mobile nature of the war.

IIRC UK used 6lbr in Sicily, Italy, and Normandie due to its ease of moving by crew but it was used mostly as infantry fire support for MG nest and bunker busting.

Soviets on the other hand made extensive use of anti tank guns. 76mm ZiS-3 and up to the late war 100mm M1944 BS-3.

"And will you continue, until there are no more Narns, and no more Centauri? If both sides are dead, no one will care which side deserves the blame. It no longer matters who started it, G'Kar. It only matters who is suffering" - Ambassador Kosh Naranek

ZIS-3 not anti-tank gun. Yes, he have not bad anti-tank skills, but it's field gun.
BS-3 also not anti-tank bun, it's field gun with very good anti-tank skills.

Gah.... why does everyone always urge for the KT to be added? Let's face it, when the KT was introduced the war was already lost for Germany, and no matter how good the KT may have been on paper, irl it had bad quality armour due to material shortages and a great lack of fuel to keep it running. And really what did its 88mm gun have to offer? the Tiger I and Panther already had more than enough penetration to deal with any enemy armour. It's not remotely one of the most important vehicles to add, it just seems to be some dream for people to cycle jerk over (if you'll excuse the vulgarity).

In a war with such a HUGE amount of interesting equipment and vehicles, people always just request the same useless over hyped junk over and over. It's really depressing sometimes.

(and no, this post is not really aimed at Ts4EVER at all, it's a generic bitching session at the huge amount of requests for this tank from numerous other people)
