Slightly enhanced performance for different units
« on: 07-06-2009, 19:06:06 »
Here is my thought: Different units in World War Two were considered to have varying levels of quality, and were used accordingly. A lot of this had to do with increased training and skills. So why don't we have different values for different units. For example:

Point du Hoc. The Army Rangers were some of the best light infantry of the war, and were heavily trained. So we could make them run 15% faster and be 15% more accurate, with 30% more sprinting endurance. And for the Pacific, sailors and marines (on both sides) could have 50% more swimming endurance before they drown and 30% more swimming speed.

I think the only difference between players should be equipment and skill.

I don't like it.  The whole point is that you are given two teams of people, and they have to use their tactics and equipment to best the other team.

Were the SS actually good at anything? I was thinking maybe some slight improvements for the Falschirmagjaeger and Panzer Lehr, maybe. (I mangled that word, didn't I?)

Why dont make the russians very bad and finns to gods with ability to jump 20% higher, have less ammo but way more accurate, add good camo to them and give them a nice touch with a healing bottle of booze!

No, I have to agree with the flo', to much of TF2ish.

And the finns should also get the ability to flip vehicles of any size, hurl grenades 300m, and run at 30 kph, while being completely accurate and immune to hits by pistol caliber bullets and shrapnel! Just to, ya know, make it historically accurate.

Sure they were. At least some of their units at some point of the war. At the end they were practically a second wehrmacht.

Great idea! The Dutch and Danish get connection problems when the game starts! And when playing Normandy maps the Germans got trouble with their panzers. On the Ostfront your weapon sometimes wont fire since your fingers are frozen and in North-Africa you sometimes faint because of dehydration.

Depends on the division.  The lower number ones (1st, 2nd, 9th, 10th, and such) were rather good, while the higher the number went, tentatively, the more mediocre they were.  Remember, most SS divisions were forign divisions, and most of the german ones by 1945 were conscripted in the same way the Wehrmacht was, so it wasn't exactly the enthusiastic volunteers of 1942/43.

As good as this could be in theory, with all the variables of online play it's hard enough as it is.

Bad idea for the players really. I mean, there's be mass confusion when your k98 isn't hitting target. Atleast on the accuracy level. May be possible for sprinting etc. But all our soldiers are pretty much physically in shape, or atleast it looks like it.

If you're lucky I'll experiment with it.
