Forgotten Honor Tournament presents the first campaign playing Forgotten Hope 2.2: Normandy 1944.

In previous campaigns we have fought in the deserts of northern Africa, in the hills of Greece and in the towns of Italy. In this campaign we will move to France and fight on the beaches and the lush green countryside of Normandy. From frantic fighting on the beaches and ambushes among hedgerows to large scale engagements between tanks and airplanes.

Throw yourself in the mud for cover, fight through hedgerow after hedgerow, brace for shellshock as the ground around you is pounded by artillery fire and have faith in your company mates when you assault your objective. Every week your team's skills and planning will be tested against an equally determined foe.

When you join this campaign, Forgotten Honor: Normandy 1944, you will experience:

    - Forgotten Hope 2 at its best in Normandy

    - 128 players fighting for victory in battles raging over 2 servers at the same time

    - Great new unseen maps not released to the public

    - Coordinated teamplay between infantry, armour and air force

Old Campaign #4 won by Axis Division

After months of preparation Forgotten Honor is ready to present to you a new theatre: Italy.

Over the last 3 months our team of almost two dozen mappers, moddelers and graphic artists have worked on this campaign so that every single map will have that unique Italian feeling. There will be no reused old maps with a few minor changes. Each map has been made from scratch using actual battle plans and geographical data from the period.

Italiy is very different from Africa. Hilly terrain and dense vegetation provides many flanking opportunities and the introduction of new hand held antitank weapons finally allows infantrymen to effectively fight off enemy tanks.

For those that don't know anything about Forgotten Honor and are asking what exactly a "campaign" is, here is a brief explanation:

Every week until the campaign ends we will release a new map and each Friday a 64 player battle will take place. Players will be divided in two teams, with a command structure based on actual World War II units. No previous experience is needed and everything is completely free. Just click on the picture, join and enjoy Forgotten Hope 2 on an organized level.

  • Brand new, unseen maps, following a historically accurate storyline that will recreate in depth the Battle for Italy. From the beaches of Sicily to the fall of Rome.
  • 32 vs 32 battles every Friday night.
  • England based server with good ping for players from both USA and Europe.
  • Team play on the highest possible level.
  • Two armies lead by experienced and respected officers.
  • An original World War 2 chain of command with a complete rank system.
  • Earn medals for your personal and team accomplishments.

Week 1

History
Biazza Ridge, Battle 1

On July 9th 1943 the Allied Forces unleashed Operation Husky on the Axis. The plan was the capture of the island of Sicily as a stepping stone to an invasion of Italy itself. The first wave of the invasion force was the airborne soldiers who had the job of securing the area behind the naval landing zones and blocking Axis counterattacks.

The Germans had long suspected an invasion of Sicily was coming and had moved the Herman Goering Panzer Division to a location near the American landing zones at the town of Gela. As the Allied planes roared overhead the German Panzers rolled forward to stop the Allies at the beach. All that stood between them was the scattered 505th airborne regiment of the 82nd "All American" on Biazza Ridge.

The Germans unleashed their ferocity on the "All Americans" but the elite paratroopers held their ground. Even with the support of Tiger tanks, the Germans were unable to break the American paratroopers and were forced to withdraw. Soon, as Allied Sherman tanks advanced of the beaches, the battle for Sicily was on...

New FH2 features!
Forgotten Honor's Minimod

The new FHT2 Add-On will bring you one step closer to the perfect WW2 tournament gameplay.

With the new spawn and flag-cap system every single soldier will count towards the final outcome of a battle. No more squadleader spawns, feel the pure squad gameplay in our Campaigns. Rallypoints and APCs are now strategical important in order to obtain victory.

New anti-tank weapons such has the Bazooka and the Dynamite will prove to be a big help in suppressing enemy armour. Besides, new buildings, bunkers and skins will bring you in depth to Italy 1943.

Here are just a few comments made by members regarding the new FHT2 Add-On:

"Okay, okay. After spending some time with the mod-testing on Sunday, I have to say I'm very impressed. Things went smoothly, the action was intense, and gameplay was excellent. No more SL's hiding in the meadows. And the parachuting spawn point blew my mind and was a total surprise for many of us. Good job to those that are doing the mod."

"best:
1 the mod
2 the mod
3 bazooka"

"I enjoyed being able to take down people quickly with an MG and not worry about someone quickly spotting me and shooting me with a rifle. It actually takes awhile to get back to a position you were killed from and I like that very much."

"And a confession:
- I was against no-SL-spawn rule, but I was wrong and I admit it. New system works like a charm and is by no means better than SL-spawning."

"The map was a beauty and with the FHT mod and new gameplay it is just awesome, cheers to the hard working mapping team"

"Playing on a new map with unique new aspects, terrain and weapons which is a priviledge worthy of subscriptions"

"Best: Feeling like FH1 again."

Week 2

History
Operation Husky, Battle 2

In mid 1943 the Allied High Command faced a dilemma. The Afrika Korps was defeated, her troops now marching off to Allied prison camps, the German U-boats were being brought slowly under control and more and more Allied war material was arriving in the west. The problem was simply what to do with all this momentum? An invasion of France in 1943 was ruled out early despite Stalin’s wishes and the Allies turned their attention towards the island of Sicily.

The invasion of Sicily was driven by two main factors; first the Allies needed to secure shipping lanes in the Mediterranean and second they had a large army in Tunisia just ready to go. The Americans were still eager to invade France and were not willing to commit to an Invasion of Italy, so Operation Husky had the potential of being the last major offensive of the Allies in the Mediterranean in 1943.

The invasion forces were divided between two main overall objectives. The Americans would land in the south near the town of Gela and advance to the west with the goal of protecting the flank of the British and Canadian troops. The British Commonwealth forces would land near Syracuse and advance up the eastern side of Sicily towards Messina with the goal of cutting of the Axis retreat.

The Germans had heavily reinforced Sicily in the months previously suspecting an attack was imminent. This included the Hermann Goering Panzer Division and the 15th Panzergrenadier division, both of which were well equipped with tanks.

On July 9th 1943 the invasion began. The German Panzer units put up a tough fight, but the Italian defenders were over stretched and quickly broke under the Allied attacks. Except for heavy fighting near Gela, the Allied forces advanced quickly of the beach and in many places suffered only minimal and token resistance. Axis airpower delivered a terrible toll on Allied ships supporting the landings but was unable to stop their guns from silencing all Axis opposition in range.

As the Allies moved further inland however, the terrain soon began to turn against them and the relative easy victories in the early days were not to last……

The casualties on the Axis side totaled 29,000, with 140,000 (mostly Italians) captured. The U.S. lost 2,237 killed and 6,544 wounded and captured; the British suffered 2,721 dead, and 10,122 wounded and captured; the Canadians suffered 2,410 casualties including 562 killed and 1,848 wounded and captured. For many of the American forces and for the entire Canadian contingent, this was their first time in combat. The Axis successfully evacuated the entire garrison in Messina. Rescuing such a large number of troops from the threat of capture represented a major success for the Axis. In the face of Allied naval and air superiority, this evacuation was a major Allied failure.

More stuff for FH2

First of all we want to welcome Pasquill in our modding team. He will participate in the development of new content for our Italian campaign, which include new city buildings to let our mappers to recreate real Italian cities, and smaller statics to be more accurate with the envoirement.

Besides, modding team is also coding improvements for the spawning system. Hopefully, a rallypoint spawn system is going to offer full inmersion gameplay in our upcomming battles.

This week we show you a Italian city building. Both versions of this building were made by [F|H]Herc.

FHT Battle 2
Operation Husky

Both sides faced a difficult task in this battle. The Allies had to breach a defence line that rivaled the defences at Omaha while the Axis had to hold the line against a determined and well equipped opponent. Fierce fighting was felt across the line, flags were endlessly contested and the constant artillery fire meant no where was safe. Despite a valiant effort, the Axis forces were driven from the beach unable to stop the allied forces from exploiting their advantages to the full.

Nice new statics! Love the hard work that you guys put in your own upgrade for FH2!
And I also think it's awesome you make all the stuff available for the FH2 devs. Can't wait to see them reaching Italy/Sicily '43, production will go so fast.

Week 3

History

Operation Fustian, Battle 3

The overall British objective in Sicily was to drive as quickly as possible up the east coast to the town of Messina and cut of the retreat of axis forces in the centre of Sicily. If Messina fell then no Axis units could escape to the Italian mainland and they naturally did not allow this to happen. As a result it did not take long for the British advance from the beaches to slow down. In a prelude of what was to come, the narrow mountainous terrain made any fast armoured pushes an impossibility and the axis defenders made good use of the terrain to hide their forces and make constant ambushes. It seemed there was a sniper in every hill and an AT gun around every corner.

The only good news for the British was the Catania Plain, a wide seemingly featureless section of ground and good tanking country. The problem was that running down the middle from west to east was the Simeto River. The only real way across was the Primosole Bridge. In a daring move, General Montgomery ordered the 1st Airborne to launch an aerial assault to take the bridge. Alas for the British, the bridge was already defended by paratroopers – The elite German 3rd Paratrooper Regiment.

The initial British attack soon fell apart, the paratroopers were badly scattered to begin with, and the fierce counter-attacks by the Germans had them in retreat. They managed to hold onto the bridge for a few hours but were soon driven back into the hills to the south. Finally XII Corps arrived with Sherman tanks and prepared to launch an attack to take the town. The initial counterattack was a simple frontal charge and ended in disaster for the British. When one British commander asked to launch a similar attack with another of his battalions he was told by Lieutentant-Colonel Pearson of the 1st Airborne “Well if you want to lose another bloody battalion that's the right way to do it.”

With Pearson’s help they crossed the river a few hundred metres up stream at night and launched a full counterattack the next morning. British Shermans charged across the bridge taking heavy casualties but the Germans were in disarray and finally broke and withdrew.

The victory was not to last. German forces regrouped further north near Mount Etna and formed the Etna line, their last defensive position before Messina. As the British advance came to a halt, the Allied attention shifted westward to the rapidly advancing American forces under General Patton….

12th July,

In the early morning, the rumble of planes are heard over head. Men and machines moving along the road mesh into one symphony. As they move onwards not knowing what awaits them. A privet off to the left takes one last look at his girls photo before the battle they all know could be around the next bend. Nothing is said, each man walking in his own thoughts. The men in the air are waiting for there time in the spot light. There time to shine. As I ride along and write this I can't help but wonder if this will be my time. I was sent over here to write the new but as I can see now I am in it. I am becoming apart of history.

Week 4

History

Etna Line, Battle 4

It is common myth that during the Sicily Campaign there was a 'race to Messina'. It would appear that this myth only existed in the head of General Patton who was eager to redeem the U.S army. In February 1943 the Americans had suffered terribly in Kasserine Pass and the quality of the U.S soldier was in doubt, particularly when compared to his British counterpart.

However Sicily gave them a chance to redeem themselves and restore faith in the U.S army. Originally they were ordered to only defend the flank of the British forces on the east coast, but with no credible opposition in the west the Americans swiftly smashed aside what little resistance there was and took Palermo before turning east and heading for Messina.

By now the British advance had ground to a halt against fierce German resistance at the Etna Line. The Etna Line was a series of German defences in the north-east corner of Sicily. The terrain here was mountainous and favoured the defenders. Montgomery, realising that his own advance had being ground down, informed Allied Command that the Americans should make a move to take Messina.

There were only four main roads heading to Messina and one of these passed through the town of Troina. The Germans had defended the town with the 15th Panzer Grenadier divisions equipped with Panzer IV tanks and the Italian 28th Infantry Division. It was to be the toughest fight for the U.S soldiers in Sicily.

The battle started on July 31st and both sides fought fiercely to gain any advantage. The battle for the town went backwards and forwards between the two sides. The Germans launched no fewer then two dozen counter attacks while the American 26th Infantry moved to take Monte Basilio two miles to the north in order to outflank the defenders. Despite minor setbacks, such as an entire battalion becoming lost in the mountains and wandering around uselessly for a day, the Americans managed to hold their positions despite heavy attack. The Germans realised that they could no longer hold the town with the American forces poised on Monte Basilio and soon began a retreat.

The battle for Sicily was soon to be at an end. The Axis never had any intention of holding onto Sicily permanently and even as the first shells fell on Troina the evacuation had begun. By August the 17th the Axis forces had completely evacuated Sicily, with their units and equipment intact. A few hours later the first American units entered into the city….Patton had won his race to Messina.

Even though the Germans had escaped intact some good had come from the fighting around Tronia, the quality of the American G.I. was no longer in doubt. Now the Allied forces looked across the straits of Messina at the tantalising land on the horizon……

Uffeh is our leading vehicle skinner. Sometimes statics, big buildings mainly, taking the place of all covers. However, a good modification has to provide the feeling of battlefield immersion, and little details to make our campaign feel so spectacular  to play. Uffeh designs historically accurate skins.

What I like most (at least when I have the time and patience) is when I have to modify the skins a bit, it at least have some creativity in it opposed to just repainting. Uffeh

Today's first picture is a new building set made by Sorken. Then we have 2 vehicles skinned by Uffeh for you.

Interview with Battle's 4 mapper

Wasntmenl, the young Dutch mapper who made a map which smells like Italy

1, Considering the time it can take to make a good map, how do you justify the time involved. Do you think its worth it?

Sure, altough the map is only played for 6 hours and maybe more after it's released. It's still fun to map so it's not that mapping is demanding it's something that's enjoyable to do for most of the time. Also it's really rewarding to see your map in action and get good reactions on it and good suggestions after.

2, How much time is needed to create a campaign map from your experience?

Didn't count but over the 150 I guess.

3, What goals do you have for your projects as mapper?

To make the terrain as close to how it is as possible at first. Than to reacreat villages and other important locations on the map as how it is(scaled down of course) and at last to make it look as Beautiful as possible.

4, What's your favourite part of mapping? And the worse one?

Finalizing terrain is my favorite because then you can really see how it has shaped up after all the work. The worst, being finalizing the map itself in codes like kit limits, starting tickets, etc.

5, What do you think makes a good map?

A map where you can loose but still have a brilliant time.

6, High detail or high performance?

Good performance and nice detail(this is perfectly do-able).

7, Where do you get your inspiration from?

Pictures of the region and general of the campaign. Looking at someone else's work. Asking around for ideas from people not involved in the Modding/Mapping teams. Personal experiences. Like for my last that map was in sicily. I was in Croatia before and took some ideas from that area.

8, Tell us something about your maps.

Etna Line is a map that is concentrated around the town of Troina which was the main anchorage and battle seen along the whole Etna line with to the north Monte Basilio a mountain which had been entrenched with Artillery emplacements, and 2 surrounding flags. It is focussed at the city with lots of little ally's and small streets with a church in the center in front of a plaza. And little small places with detail. Still providing the planes and tanks to get some good fighting in the outskirts as well.

9, What's your experience in Forgotten Honor team? Why did you join?

I basically had the idea of mapping in bf2 for quite some time because I wanted to recreate the Dutch battles in the ww2. So at some point I talked with Sorken about it and he showed me the basics of mapping. Then I thumbeled around with it, and noticed that recreating a Dutch battle with the current material available can't be done. At witch time I was contacted by Herman if I wanted to map or not. I could choose from 2 battles that werent taken yet and choosed Etna line (see qeustion 7). I was scared at first to take on something in my eyes a grand project and if I could deliver the needed quality or not. After I was assured to get 4 months to work on it and that statics would be made to look it italian. I accepted with doing the first 2 months almost nothing maybe 20 hours in total and the last month a lot of hours and limited time to play new released games like Empire total war Razz. I joined mainly because I wanted to contribute something to the tournament after I failed to chip in the last time. And because I wanted to start making quality maps but not on such short notice.

10, Any tips for new mappers?

Try to find an experianced mapper who will help you with the basics and can give you guidelines to start mapping. Watch out cause as soon as we know you have started, mapping will hunt you down and get you working Razz (if you agree ofcourse) after you have your project try to split your work. Take time for the terrain first cause thats a huge factor if the basis is good for your map In my opinion. Stay in touch with the guy who gave you the assignment and dont be afraid to ask anything it will help you a lot in the long run. Try to work on it at least 7 hours a week this keeps it fresh and it will save you stress later.

Week 5

History

Battle for Salerno, Battle 5

As September 1943 rolled around it was clear that the Axis forces were in disarray. The Italians had all but left the war and the fascist government would be permanently overthrown. German armies were on the defensive in Russia and the Allies now all but controlled the seas and skies over Europe. The need for a cross channel invasion, despite the protest from American commanders, had evaporated and the Allied commanders now looked for a new way to continue the momentum.

They now committed themselves to an invasion of Italy proper with the goal of taking the entire Italian mainland and driving up into Europe from the south. The Allied invasion of Sicily was broken into two main sections. Operation Baytown was the first invasion across the Straits of Messina and was meant to be a diversion that would draw German attention south away from the main landings at Salerno called Operation Avalanche. Operation Baytown was led by the British 8th army and the Canadian 1st Infantry division. General Montgomery was opposed to the plan as he felt that the Germans would not stand and fight in the southern half of Italy and would instead retreat north quickly towards Salerno and Rome leaving his army some 300 miles away from the real battle.
Nonetheless Operation Baytown was launched on the 3rd of September and the Allied invasion of mainland Europe had begun.

Operation Avalanche would be led by the American 5th Army with the British X corps in support. Its goal was to secure the harbour of Naples and to move to the east to trap any German forces in the south of Italy. On the 9th of September the Allied forces began their landings in the Salerno area. In order to achieve surprise there was no preliminary naval or aerial bombardment of the landing zones. Almost immediately the battle started to go wrong for the Allies. The German defenders were not taken by surprise and were instead waiting for the Allied forces. No less then six divisions stood by in the area ready to throw the invaders back into the sea.

The Allied forces were initially spread out during the landing with the distances between the units unusually large for an operation of this kind. Combined with German resistance it meant that the British and American landing forces were not united until the end of the second day of fighting. Now the Germans unleashed their counterattacks and they found weakness in particular in the American sector where units were too spread out to support each other. However the Allies managed to recover, nearby Americans units managed to reorganise and move forward to stop the advance but the deciding factor in stopping the German attack was the naval bombardment which pulverised the panzers. The German tanks had gotten with 6 kilometres of the beach at Salerno.

Realising that the Allied defences were too strong the Germans made their retreat to their prepared defences in the north and by the 18th of September the Allied advance was renewed. The Germans had withdrawn to the Volturno Line which was the first of the many Italian defence lines the Germans had prepared. The first Allied units reached the line in October and the seemingly quick victories in Sicily and Salerno would soon seem a distant memory…

More stuff for FH2

Herman and Metaxas are the admins for Forgotten Hope 2 campaigns in our community. Being admin is one of the most stressful jobs in organizing a campaign, not just only the preparations before the start but also the management of it during the campaign.

The most difficult part is to keep both sides happy and stop the moaning. It seems that both sides consider themselves injured from the administrators and most people see only their side when thinking of the balance. The admin has to think of all the scenarios and reactions when he takes a decision. So the hardest part is the responsibility to keep the tournament together, which is even harder than punishing someone. Metaxas

Isn't this a BF2 tournament, not BF1942?
If it is a BF2 tournament, I would like to join in...
Do I just have to register or do I must do something else too(like download something)? And when there are games and what time?

I am new in to this, so I need some help to get started.

I think a LITTLE and SIMPLE FAQ about this would be good for me.

Well if you look at the superb textures the FHT team produces I say it's quite easily FH2.

I am sure you can find a FAQ or info page on their website, if not just search in their forums or open a thread yourself  :)

Okay, thanks to you and to Fuchs too. That really helped me. I think I'll try to join soon.
No, I didn't join for Nations Cup... Damn. I would really like to be in it.

EDIT: I joined to FHT2, but know I think that it is not for me. I think I dont want to come to "games" often, because it's a little too organized(you know it's SUMMER). I'm sorry. How can i delete my account?

what do you mean by too organized?

You don't have to delete your account, just say to your officers you can't play anymore  ;)
