Re-watched a classic the other day with my girl.

Stand by me
- Richard Dreyfuss looks back at his youth and coming of age. A true classic. Great actors (and so young) in a really good story. Also nice to see a young Kiefer Sutherland (80's Kiefer rock!) playing a mean rockabilly bullie.

8 out of 10

Also watched this one...

Bad teacher
- Probably one of the worst and most meaningless movies I have seen in several years.

The story: Cameron Diaz is a bad teacher. The end.

Melancholia

Don't worry, yes, she will be completely naked. Great movie, Von Trier films like the great painters. But know what you are getting into. This is not for everyone. Still, a bit more accessible this time around for people that don't know Von Trier very well. A simple story and Keither Sutherland and Dunst added to the mix. John Hurt is also around. Dunst is probably going to win the Oscar for this. Her sister is good too, although a bit more empty, but that's also her part. Depressive, you bet. It'll leave you wondering about a lot, or not. I also found it uplifting at times :D Final judgement: 9

Cowboys and Aliens

Listen up team, we're going to do this 'serious' = Fail 1. Western and aliens do not mix, or rather sci-fi machines, fair enough. But Wild Wild West was rather painfull = Fail 2. Craig is the best Bond to date, sorry Sean, but I hate it when they play in other movies = Fail 3. Harrison Ford is not the actor he used to be - Fail 4. But it worked for me! Craig just excels at playing a righteous, but heartbroken bastard. Just like Fleming intented Bond. Ford is good as well, although I felt he could give it a bit more. Even the aliens' motivations are explained which a LOT of other movies... don't. Fun movie, where I expected a bomb, and then some. I was wrong. Final shootout: 7,5

Iron Sky

Aargh, if only ;D

Wow that must be pretty entertaining.

But franchise career destroying movie such as this, began too early, even for Daniel Craig.

It's a bit of both and also drugs but still not funny. Not even one bit.

Anyhow, watched the remake of Peckinpah's Straw Dogs. Now starring Alexander Skarsgård, Kate Bosworth and James Marsden instead of the original cast which was Del Henney, Susan George and Dustin Hoffman.

I was really afraid that this remake would harm the reputation of the original movie. The original is a really scary classic set in northern England with Dustin Hoffman and Susan George as the American couple in a small village.

This remake is set in the southern USA and James Marsden and Kate Bosworth play the couple and Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood, Generation Kill) plays the leader of the antagonist gang.

I can gladly say that the movie is worth the watch and it's fairly good compared to it's original. They got that feeling that Peckingpah gave us so good in the original. That disturbing feeling something is wrong and something wrong is about to happen. Really puts you on edge through out the movie.

Other than that, I have been sick this weekend and what movie is better to watch when you have a heard time being awake and not being as focused as usual when watching a movie?

Terminator 2, bitches!

Even to this day, the action packed in this movie is still amazing! Just the first clash between Robert Patrick and Arnold Schwarzenegger (the corridor, roses and a shotgun) is true classic and there's more. James Cameron knows his shit.

We need to talk about Kevin

Absolutely horrible story, and by that I mean good! But horrible.. it's got a Columbine-shooting theme and it's just... a deep-dive in to darkness... Great acting by John C Reilly as the dad and some new kid as "Kevin", but really, Tilda Swanson (?) is killing it, 10/10 acting from her side in this... she's incredible!

Overall, directing, story, acting is 8/10 in this movie, however the 'jumping back n forth in time' is a bit of a drag, and feels overdone.. especially since THE one Columbine-type movie ("Elephant" by Gus Van Sant) also had this, it feels a bit meh that they use it here also... Final grade 7.5/10 - a must see if you feel like getting your positive spirit sucked out of your chest with a garden hose.  :-X

Triple Cross (1966). If you can accept Yul Brynner as Col. Baron von Grunen in this film then you'll be fine. This successfully portrays the pure guile, audacity and conman-ship that it must have taken Eddie Chapman in order to be a double agent in WW2. Eddie Chapman was himself a criminal of some repute before the war. It's clear here what skills he is applying. There is an interesting portrayal of how he developed these relationships with the Germans using the strength of his personality. In real life, after the war, Von Grunen later attended the wedding of Eddie Chapman's daughter.

Quite an unusual WW2 film judging by the usual path that these kind of things take.

V for Vendetta

Would give it about an 9.5/10
Would have liked to see a few parts with the community growing more upset about the government and there were a few parts that I think could have been done a little better. Otherwise, I liked it

Carnage - Roman Polanski

Bitter psychological comedy about 2 married couples trying to work things out after the son of one couple had beaten the son of the other couple with a stick. Things start out friendly but get bad pretty quick. From the trailer I didn't expect this to be so enjoyable, it just came across as loud and embarassing. But to my surprise it's quite well doen. Feels like a play almost, with only one location and four actors.
One couple consists of Jodie Foster (nice to see her again) and John C Reilly (Stepbrothers, Boogienights) and the other couple of Kate Winslett (Titanic, The Reader) and Christopher Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Green Hornet) and they make it work. The direction is pretty solid as well, with Polanksi making the most of a limited set.

Liked the fact that they didn't try to make these persons likable, or superwitty or something. They're just people with their bottled up emotions, beinhg asholes at one moment  and forgiving the next.

Drive

Don't pay attention to its trailers. I like these, back to the decade, movies, but this is more. That's not doing it justice, saying they pulled that part of beautiful is an insult really. They show they master that from the get go. Think Steve McQueen in the eighties in 2011, flying colors, great shots, good acting and actors, and a KICK ASS soundtrack. Rough, raw, beautiful. In every department. I just let go for 1,5 hours and boy, am I glad I did.

Sherlock Holmes, The game of Shadows

Well, the movie is nicely shot, (I haven't seen the first part), it has a nice plot, acting is on the level, though the comedy parts didn't really touch me, and the end was a bit disappointing, as well as killing poor miss MacAdams.

I can fit the whole movie in two words.

Historical inaccuracy.

I´ve seen Carnage as well recently and really liked it.
Finally a movie again that lives from the good acting and not just some effects driven action story..

Underground 1995
I´ve seen this a few weeks ago and I am still thinking about it because it was so surreal sometimes.
Highly recommended, this one entered my all time Favourite movie list.

Quote
The story follows an underground weapons manufacturer in Belgrade during WWII and evolves into fairly surreal situations. A black marketeer who smuggles the weapons to partisans doesn't mention to the workers that the war is over, and they keep producing. Years later, they break out of their underground "shelter" --- only to convince themselves that the war is still going on.

Are we talking about Drive (2011) by Nicolas Winding Refn and Hossein Amini from James Sallis novel?

Don't know how to actually enjoy the movie. It is very Asian for its slow story progressing, European for its gory scenes, and American for its heroic plots. I can't enjoy this movie as an entertainment-seeker audience, but maybe as critics or nostalgia seekers.

Ryan Gosling plays his usual character: a typical handy nice guy, smart, cold, silent, but icy, brutal and devastating.
