Title: thermite fx

A small change to make it look more like thermite and less like a flare. One of many small changes you won't think twice over upcoming version.

The new version has tons of these great nifty things.
We should make a rally to see who can spot the most changes. ^^

I am actually more curious about that jet video you posted to your account Kev,

Did you by chance, manage to break the ceiling limit on BF2?

Nice work. Did it damged vehicles before? Do we might see it on other maps, may as pick up kit, to disable static guns or tanks and such?

Thermite was not that commonplace at all, a standard practice for the allies was to actually capture the weapon but if they were to be destroyed, it was normal practice to just blow the breech or the barrel with whatever explosives were available.

In fact on the real PdH, Thermite and the guns were both absent. The Rangers used explosives to blow the 2 guns that they did find but the guns did not fire a shot in anger during the landings and they were abandoned by the time they were found by chance.

IMO, the real story behind PdH was the tenacity of the German defenders from the 20mm Flak position and bunker complex which put up a stiff resistance for days after the landings. (both notable absentees from the map we play)

Every source I've seen say that the Rangers found the relocated 155 mm gun in an orchard. There were six guns (some sources say five) and thermite was used.

my bad, it's been like 3 years since I last read this history. The Rangers used C4 on the flak bunker position but resorted to a combination of thermite bombs and brute force to disable the French guns.

""All that can be stated with assurance is that the Germans were put off balance and disorganized by the combined effects of bombardment and assault, to such an extent that they never used the most dangerous battery near the assault beaches but left it in condition to be destroyed by weak patrols.""

As far as I understand the source there were supposed to be 6 guns. But they were brougth into inland before the bombardements. So in the operation itself were no guns destroyed. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Would be good to check other sources as well.

The guns were relocated two days before the invasion. It was noticed only after the rangers had scaled the cliff. They advanced further inland and found and destroyed the guns in an orchard, just like in FH2.

For the thermite effect... In my opinion it could be brighter and generate white smoke.

Re wrecking a gun, isn't "spiking" still effective? You put all metal scrap you can find and fit inside, add explosives to taste, light the fuse, duck and cover, boom. ???

Nice effect! Just another subtle nuance which makes FH incredible  ;)

Pretty darn comparable to the real thing too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiRJj2oRWnM

So will we also see thermite grenades on other maps? perhaps as an slow burning anti-vehical weapon?

Not used often at all. I just wish it would get more smoke.

would be nice to make thermite produce brighter flame, more white + whiter denser smoke over it. Also: does it hurt people nearby? It should, right?

youtube video of actual thermite nade anyone? I have never seen a real such thing or how it looks, that is why I haven't really bothered with updating our current one, which Kev now has.

Tank Driver: "GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!"

Thermite grenades would be pretty sweet to have on other maps, but I'd prefer to air on the side of historical accuracy. Satchels are still a lot of fun anyways  ;D. Did I hear somewhere that satchels are getting a tweak for the new release?

Thermite nades should totally stick to soldiers  ;D I cant wait to see germans running around on Pdh with a trail of smoke after them, then go BOOM!
