The Historical Quote Page
« on: 02-02-2010, 04:02:05 »
Since we no longer have Warriors quote page, (didn't like the IRC quotes that it was filled with anyway) I have decided to make a historical quote page.

Rules:

1. No IRC quotes. Only historical

2. No quotes that could cause offense, and if one does, it should be removed.

3. No random spam/Warrior like behavior.

To start the thread off, I'll post one:

"Wake up, Pancho Nicaragua, grab your machete There's a lot of weeds to cut grab your machete and your guitar"~ Ernesto Cardenal

Does philosophical counts as historical? (my quotes aren't from this century, so they're history!)

Both from my signature.

Gott ist tot (god is dead)

and

After coming into contact with a religious man I always feel I must wash my hands.

Both by fredriech nietzsche. gotta agree with his view on religion! (about the übermenschen too).

Aristotles:
(this one fitts kinda good on some guys here)
The wise man speaks because he has something to say, the fool because he has to say something

And a few classics buy julius ceasar:

War gives the right of the conquerors to impose any conditions they please upon the vanquished.

Alea iacta est

In war important events result from trivial causes.

Oh shit while we are on last words I liked this one.

"How about this for a headline for tomorrow's paper? French fries."
Executed in electric chair in Oklahoma.
~~ James French, d. 1966

Few from Regan I always liked....

"How do you tell a Communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin."

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

"Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem."

"My fellow Americans. I'm pleased to announce that I've signed legislation outlawing the Soviet Union. We begin bombing in five minutes." -joking during a mike check before his Saturday radio broadcast

"It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?"

"I hope you're all Republicans." -speaking to surgeons as he entered the operating room following a 1981 assassination attempt

"Honey, I forgot to duck." -to his wife, Nancy, after surviving the assassination attempt

"Vini, Vidi, Vici!" -Julius Caesar, after his conquest of Germania

Well, I wouldn't call not even 3 weeks of ravaging the suebian country "conquest".

Thales was proclaiming that death isn't any different than life. 'So, why don't you die?' someone asked. 'Because there is no difference' he replied. - quoted after Laertios

America had often been discovered before Columbus, but it had always been hushed up. -Oscar Wilde

Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone. - John Maynard Keynes

"Vini, Vidi, Vici!" -Julius Caesar, after his conquest of Germania
Actually he quipped than after defeating Pontus in war.

Says who?
"He declared in Greek with loud voice to those who were present 'The die has been cast' and led the army across [the Rubicon]."

So says Plutarch, and Sueton says pretty much the same. I assume you're joking?
Except that "the die has been cast" is "Alea iacta est"...
Vini vidi Vici means "I came, I saw, I conquered"
I see were you are trying to reach: "how can a 17 year old kid have such a thinking like this? why doesnt he wants to be like normal teens who whana get rich? and his plan actually makes sense, but is too damn revolutionary and good at the same time than is still doubthfull if it works..." - Damaso
