FH2 Help / Support / The Forgotten Hope 2 Common Shaders Problem and Why I am Going to Kill Myself

So... I have the FH2 shaders problem, the one that you can't even start the game with.  Please do not link me to the Common Problems/Solutions page, I've seen it.  The fact is I get this error about every week, and every week I've been able to fix it, until now.  After I get the little pop-up and the game crashes, I usually just check in the FH files, and every week it seems that the shaders_client.zip in the Fh mod section has mysteriously disappeared, so I replace it. This week, when I replaced it, nothing happened.  All of my files are in place.  I have no idea why I can't friggin play the game.

Off-Topic / Crazy computer savvy people, I need your help!

A couple of weeks ago I tried installing Red Alert again, and I downloaded something that would make my computer compatible.  I didn't work, but now when I try to install anything I get a "DOs subsystem error"!  The sites I've seen only seem to help people trying to download 16 bit stuff, but I'm trying to download the BF2 1.5 patch right now, and indeed just about all downloads now encounter this error!  

So please, tech wizards and warlocks, walk through a non-computer savvy person how to defeat this impediment to FH 2.2!


Edit:  If this is any help, here is what it says:  The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.  (A lot of random numbers here)  Choose "Close" to terminate the application.

Ok, foist of all, I'm not sure if this belongs in the Help forum, but it doesn't have anything to do with FH.  Alrighty, I have Windows Vista as of lately, and I am almost positive that is the source of the problem.  I have recently downloaded PR, and when I try to open the download, I get a "We cannot verify blah blah blah".  So I click run, and then... nothing.  Nothing ever opens up.  This has happened once before, with Europa Barbarorum.  Help, please.

Alright, just a quick question: Why were paratroopers helmets different to your average grunt's? As far as I can tell, they're all rimless, i.e. the fallschrimjager stahlhelm and the British para's helmet? Does it have to do with wind resistance, or things getting caught up in the rims and flares? Simply cool and stylish?
