Weapons without precision optics
« on: 10-06-2010, 20:06:25 »
Forgotten Hope ..... Best war game in the world, realistic, beautiful! I played well the first and often I was the stronger team (without cAMP).
Curious ....... but why is that good things and weapons like guns, machine guns fixed, and everything else without precision optics, are zooming by pressing the right mouse button? The maximum of this game is pure reality. You can not remove the zoom without optical precision weapons?

I don't think that's what he means, Natty. Just the bit of zoom when aiming down iron sights.

I think it portrays the fact that you are in a higher state of concentration at a target you're attempting to aim at.

It also depends on the weapon. Rifles and light machine guns are capable of long range shooting compared to SMGs. So, a tad more zoom to them.

Besides, the zoom isn't anything like the optics, and with those optics you get those very helpful crosshairs that aren't blocked by a part of the gun that much.

The thing about the zoom is that you should be able to see at that zoom level normally, but the constrictions of the computer screen mean you cant fit the full field of human vision.

Look straight forward and notice how far to either side you can see. Now, look at the field of vision on your screen ingame. The game trys its best to squeeze what you can naturally see into that little box in front you. When you "zoom" in game you're not actually zooming, just removing the restriction of the screen to see at a more natural level.

Also, the idea of "focusing" in on a target comes into play as Cadyshack said.

I think he asks why it IS zoomed if you dont have a scope and not why its NOT ...

As far as i understand he wants the slight zoom to be removed when aiming down the sights. Actually a nice suggestion as i find ..

Try this.  Look at an object.  Then find a gun like prop (metal tube, coke can, whatever), and sight down it, one eye closed, focusing on a single spot.  It will actually look zoomed ;)

Your just drunk. The bullseye always looks like the same small miserable thing whether i'm looking at it through the sights or not...  ::) Or maybe that's because I just remove it with my first shot everytime.. ;)

Did everyone just ignore my post? :P

Still think removing it would be an unrealistic hinderance.

Well now you are just being an asshole.

I thought he wanted us to disable the right-click zoom. then it would be like TF2 and BFH, where you cant zoom, you just shoot.

I see the strange idea of the concentrate and even if the current magnification is exaggerated

For me the ingame zoom is quite natural altho it's an unnatural thing in real life. I agree with flyboy that it's there to recreate your concentration when looking through sights and that you can't see targets on your monitor as good as you'd see then IRL. Also I never heard anyone complining about it.
