Oh, I'm so pumped for True Grit.

You can't stay alive long without seeing a Coen flick from time to time

And yeah, Natty. I have the same problem, I'm always confusing Jeff Bridges and Daniels

9/10

i was first gonna rent 2012...but then that simply movie box of Gran torino caught me eye.

Clint" dirty harry" eastwood made one frakking good movie. simple story, fantastic dialogous
The ending was a surprise however. Sad... but not bad
what am i kidding. 8.5:10 goes pure for Clint his acting. 0.5 for cute asian girl

Quote
Duke: What you lookin' at old man?
Walt Kowalski: Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn't have fucked with? That's me.

Quote
Smokie: Are you fucking crazy? Go back in the house.
Walt Kowalski: Yeah? I blow a hole in your face and then I go in the house... and I sleep like a baby. You can count on that. We used to stack fucks like you five feet high in Korea... use ya for sandbags.

Also first movie where you dont see Clint kill a single person
-i am fairly sure that if they took porn off the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called bring back the porn "Perry cox, Scrubs.

I'm watching Kill Bill Vol. 1 and I have a dire question. This movie has long bouts of Japanese and.... IS THERE SUPPOSE TO BE SUBTITLES? My version does not :/ I can't understand anything those crazy Asians say.

Haha, I rewatched 'm both around christmas and was wondering the same thing. I thought the japanese bits were supposed to be hardcoded but they're part of the optional subtitles. Just turn on the subs and you'll get the translation as well.

Darby's Rangers, 1958.

Took me a while to notice the very young looking James Garner (who remembers The Rockford Files?). This little beauty is straight out of the "they don't make em' like they used to" department. Shot in b/w to match some of the newsreel footage, here we have a very good exploration of young soldiers thrown into something they don't understand and then finding out the hard way what they're fighting for. Has enough battle scenes to keep action affectionardos happy ... one scene with the Rangers crossing unseen through an entire column of moving tanks comes to mind. This is one of those examples of not just fine film making if you ask me, but something that was made when what that period was all about was still clear in the minds of many people. Old is definitely better in this case.

Reservoir Dogs
7/10

I have no idea why it took me so long to finally watch this classic. Anyway, I enjoyed the ride but... something just left me wanting more. The trivia around the movie is almost as interesting as the movie itself.

Rare Exports
8/10

Enjoyable, had its funny moments and some creepy ones. Will probably start watching it every Christmas like with Bad Santa.

Fun with Dick and Jane
9/10

Also an old classic and I've seen it many times on TV as well. Saw the whole movie just for the "robotic voice-scene". Always cracks me up.

Ghostbusters I & II
9/10

Saw these last night just because I happened to hear the theme song on some site. Awesome films. Rumors of a part III are on imdb.com but the main characters are all born in the 40's, 50's and early 60's i.e. soon to be sitting in wheelchairs drooling on themselves.

SAW VII
5/10

/facepalm

Last week I watched two Swedish classics called "Utvandrarna" and "Nybyggarna" starring some classic actors such as Max von Sydow and Liv Ullmann.

Don't know the English titles but if you translate it, it's kinda like "Emigrants" and the "Settlers"

It's about a Swedish working class family in late 1800's who like many other Swedish families during this time that emigrated to America.

It starts off with the harsh life in Sweden for the lower classes, struggling with the land, the winters and life in general.

It's a big chronicle over a family's history from the start to the end.

A Swedish classic

Black Swan 8/10

A moving and very disturbing movie. It's definitely not for everyone, but it has it's moments. I even flinched at some of the 'harder' pictures (damn I hate fingernail related horror...). I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller from time to time.

As a plus on the side, it has hardcore girl on girl action with Natlie Portman and Mila Kunis. Enough so, to make every Star Wars fan's heart leap with joy (and other things come back to the light side). ;)

Pontypool

Low budget, small scale Canadadian horrormovie based on Tony Burgess' novel "Pontypool Changes Everything". It's about an outbreak of somekind in a little town called Pontypool. The movie follows early morning talkradio host Grant Mazzy and his 2 co-workers, who have no idea what's going on when the first calls start coming in about something gruesome happening outside in the village. They decide to keep reporting about this mysterious outbreak from their basement studio but inevitably the real world comes crashing in.

It may sound like your typical zombie movie, but it's the inventive way in which the story is told that sets this apart from tons of other movies. Having no budget to speak of, the movie shows only the perspective of Mazzy and his team. You're in there with them, knowing nothing more then they know. This approach can easily fall flat but here it works. It creates a harrowing "what's really going on?" atmosphere, helped by excellent actors and great use of the audiotrack. The "twist" is really cool too, but you'll have to find out yourself.

Well worth watching if you're into inventive movies, or just like your survival horror (but just make sure you get a version with a proper DTS/5.1 track because sound is important in this movie). 8/10

Pontypool

Pontypool?  :o

Watched The Book Of Eli   earlier this evening.

Enjoyed it and had many laughs at obscure stuff.  ;D
Star spotting, why it had Ray Stevenson in it - Titus Pullo from the Rome series, I loved him in that role!

Then when the 2 wanderers wandered into a couples 'little house on the prairie' I had to do a double take at the old woman, I said to myself, I said why that looks like Frances de la Tour ? Noooo it can't be?  Fookin 'ell it is ... it's Miss Jones! ;D And Michael Gambon as here husband!

Loved the twist at the end too, 8/10  :D
