Respect!
He's attack along with Kerscher near Malinava 22 July 1944 stands well above Wittmanns actions at Villers-Bocage. Instead of halftracks, bren carriers and a few tanks, they knocked out 17 IS-2 and 5 T-34 close range in about 20 min.
I can recommend his book '"Tigers in the Mud"

Looks good, hopefully the won't be any campfest at the beginning and a bridge of death like in FH1.

God, what a thread... :-X

Special rounds (PzG40, HVAP APDS etc.) should be out, it doesn't work very well ingame, mostly due to the fact that you don't have to save them for another day and instead people cruise around with them loaded most of the time, especially if you just got killed by a Tiger or Panther  ;)
I think that would decrease the worst of these "omg!wtf! killed me in that with that for there! LAME!!"

Other than that I think the tanks in FH2 works out as they should quite well.
Panther was good, but far from invincible.

[notfixable=on]
Sad thing though with the engine that can't see difference from 10 degree and 90 degrees angle hits which make large tanks like the Panther with it's quite weak side armor a very good target.
Top armor hits are very rare as far as I have seen, but I guess it happens at shorter ranges  :-\

Panzer I. I will find out a way to kill your KV1 with that thingy theta! :D edit: when you repair I show up! and you shoot through my armor with your rifle...xD
...as for maps -  suggested and I really liked the russian countryside feeling with open areas, woods and large tank battles of Kharkov Outskirts 1943 in FH1.
Finland at War 1939-45, now that would be fun and unique!

Off-Topic / Re: Panzer III on Kursk
« on: 22-03-2010, 19:03:53 »
So in theory, if we ever see another migthy eastfront, with Kursk as a map, the composition would be

40% panzer III
30% Panzer IV
10% tigers/panthers
20% others

Seems fairly reasonable
Yes.
Depends though if you make a map that you want to cover the whole battle of the southern flank or if you specify your map to a special time and area of the battle because tanks like Tigers and Panthers was never spread out over all units and the whole front.
Tigers for example usually fought under "Schwere Panzer-Abteilung" units that often was used as firebrigade were the hardest fightings took place which means the amount of % Tigers increased at those areas, other units but those that had Tigers was 1.SS 2.SS 3.SS and Grossdeutschland Division.
I think they had about 1 company (14-15) each on paper during 1943, operational numbers at any given time was of course lower.

Most of the approx. 2500 tanks and assault guns Germany scratched together for Operation Zitadelle did not come straight from the factories as the quite few Panthers and Ferdinands, that broke down anyway :-X, it was taken from all other places and reserves to reach those numbers and that resulted in a very high number of the obsolete Panzer III's in different versions.
Example:
2.SS Division Das Reich numbers in the time for Operation Zitadelle:
Pzkpfw II: 1
Pzkpfw III (long): 62
Pzkpfw IV (long): 33
Pzkpfw VI: 14
Pzkpfw T-34(r): 25
10 Befehls (probably Pzkpfw III's)
Source: Waffen-SS Divisions 1939-45 by Chris Bishop

You can see that one of the strongest units at Kursk was made up mostly by Panzer III and captured T-34's :P
There was nothing like these mighty "panzerkeils" with Tigers, Panthers and Panzer IV's, like some Documentries claims. I'm not gonna mention any names... ::)

I don't have any numbers right now but I know that Panzer III armed with 50mm gun, even some 37mm was still quite common at Operation Zitadelle, especially in the 9th Army on the northern flank.
sPzAbt.501-505 consisted partly of Panzer III Ausf N's 1942-43 due to lack of Tigers to reach full strength.

Okay, I think it's enough of this nonsense now. We don't want Flippy to lock our thread ;D
