Suggestions / Re: Assuming Pegasus Bridge is in the making
« on: 16-06-2014, 15:06:43 »
I believe day/night cycles are possible in BF2.  I saw a video on YouTube.  There was a rising and setting sun and moon on a field, I believe it was tested by Project Reality.

Anyway, it really isn't necessary.  I also hate the night maps.  It is too difficult to see, mainly because you aren't there.....your eyes cannot adjust to the darkness like they can in real life.  So really, you're sitting in your room, getting glare on a screen that is pitch black.  Even with contrast and brightness turned up all of the way I can ever make out anything.  I am not going to put tin foil over my window to make sure my room is completely dark, just to play one map every once and awhile.

I usually disconnect immediately if I join a server that has a night map running.

I think that the concept of night maps is fantastic, but it just doesn't work in a computer simulation environment for the average joe who plays at home.

I noticed this with other weapons as well.  Some handheld pistols too.

The reason I dislike single player is because there is no element of hiding.  The bots always know where you are, even if you are behind a thick bush.

Also they don't aim and they fire their rifles extremely quickly with great accuracy.

Sometimes it is the only alternative to empty servers, though :(

I don't really care for commander artillery.  It is too concentrated and too devastating.  It seems to take away from the game play somewhat, since the commander artillery is not player controlled.

Player controlled artillery and mortars are fine because they aren't always direct.  The commander artillery is always exact where they click.

I agree, why don't they just joint he development team?

It seems like they could use some help.  I would assume the help would be welcome, as long as the individuals were talented enough to keep up?

Oh wow that is a bunch of BULL.  F*** EA.  They could have at least done this until the game turned 10.  BF2 is 2005 isn't it?  WTF.

And from what I recall, Project Reality already has a WW2 based Normandy mod.  I'm not sure but it may just be Omaha beach?

I know they have Vietnam maps inside of their normal PR build as well.  I haven't played any but I have seen videos on YouTube.

I did not know that EA reversed their decision to host the BF2 Gamespy servers.  This makes me livid.  :(

I agree with what he is saying.

Although I believe EA has officially stated that they will replace the Gamespy servers for BF2.  The same can't be said about BF1942, though.  But I believe BF2 will be saved, at least for now, after the May 31st Gamespy shut-down.

I don't know, I thought I stopped playing around that same time, 7pm central.  Didn't see any other inhabited servers.

I just got home from work so I most definitely will!

BTW, ForgottenKevinOHope, are you a Chicagoland resident by chance?  I notice your avatar...

I was just wondering if the player base has been thinning out again.   I seem to remember the same thing happening after the previous releases.  Things are decent for awhile after a release, but then the players disappear after about a month.

Where was everyone?

I gamed from about 6 pm - 7 pm (-600 GMT Central) and there were only about 6 people on the 762 server.

It seems like the player base is shrinking every day.

After launch there was about 30-50 on during this same time-frame.

These past two weeks there have been less than 20 players on average during the same time.

Although on the weekends I have seen 100+ players on the 762 servers.  But 100 players is too much for me.  So I jump on the second 762 server, but then there are like 10 players on there, which is too boring.

My ideal playing environment is no more than 50-60 players on the same server simultaneously.  70-100 is too much, lag suffers at that point.

Oh boy, that Russian spawn menu makes me excited.

Are any of the carbines M44s vs M38s?

Also I think the wood on the full size 91/30s is too red.  That dark red color really only came when they applied the shellac finish at post-war re-arsenal prior to their storage in cosmoline.  During the war they were more of a natural wood color.

The barrel on the carbine M38/M44 is too long.  I am not sure if this is supposed to be a bayonet, though, as if they are M44s?  Either way, if it is a bayonet, it is too short.

If you need any photos of Mosin Nagants,  I have plenty.  I have 6 91/30s, 3 M44s, and 3 Chinese Type 53s (same as M44.)

I also have a Yugoslavian M57 and a Romanian Cugir TTC which are the same as the Russian TT33, if you need some photos of that as well.

Also, I almost forgot.  From the videos I have watched, I believe FH's cyclic speed for the Lewis machine gun is way too high.

Suggestions / Re: equipment switch in class menu
« on: 14-05-2014, 22:05:16 »
It would be neat to be able to select alternative weapons for every class, similar to what Project Reality has.  Although most of the time, PR's weapon selection just involves optic choice - aim point/red dot sight or magnified optics.

In Forgotten Hope, Scout could get M1 Garand/M1 Carbine or M1 Garand/Springfield 1903, Riflemen could get choice of rifles just the same, etc.

For each class that would be great, just more of a selection of loadout is all.  Maybe you want to be an engineer but you'd rather have an M1 Garand instead of the M1 Carbine.  Your accessories should not necessarily dictate what primary rifle you have.

I have not noticed this with the half tracks, although I usually stay out of them.

At the core, the Kubelwagon and Jeep are extremely slow at accelerating.  They should be some of the most nimble and quick of all of the vehicles.

I know the Bren carrier doesn't accelerate immediately, but it seems to accelerate more quickly than the Jeep and Kubelwagon.  The Bren carrier has a bit of a delay but once it starts moving it really goes.
