I think the opportunity not only to play with todays weapons and vehicles, but also to get very close to the what modern warfare is, is pretty rare and the focus on communication and teamplay makes it feel very real. Furthermore the equipment does not consist of nearly similar counterparts like with all the vehicles in vBF. The roles for each side can be totally different.
I also agree that it fits the spirit of the age and is then done really well and professionally. What can you do more in order to be succesful?
Also, after having it on my computer for several months now, I just started playing BF2:PR this week and I really enjoyed it. Only knowing theory and basic stuff by the manual, the first thing that happened is me running into nice people that kindly explain me everything, tell me what to do and give tips.
So it does not surprise me that people stick to the game. Due to improved communication the game gets a lot more personal, after some time you probably get to know many people and you can always properly play together with people easily, as teamplay is common sense. There are certainly not many games of this style where teamplay in public games is common sense, that's the big advantage of PR.
Surely not everyone is into this teamplay and communication thing, it probably would not fit FH2 public for example as too many people just want to be on their own (although I personally like the idea of FH2 mumble).
=> Looking forward to PR2 I think. The community support seems quite big and when they put as much dedication into PR2 as in BF2:PR, then I have no doubt it will be great. Happy I got enough time to explore regular PR until it gets released though
