Hello, I'm a tester and supporter for Project Normandy, wich is a mini-mod for Project Reality, wich is the biggest and most played mod of Battlefield 2.

The mod is normally set in Realistic Modern Warfare gameplay, but one of the Developper started his own side project, now it's finally released and we're working hard to get things up. We don't have any modelers or animators, could be usefull to have some, because we mainly use vehicles, weapons, etc from other BF2 mods. The mod use ALOT of models and other things from Battlegroup Frontline, a BF2 mod that died.

If you have played World War II Online you might certainly like this mod.

The mod is not aimed to compete with Forgotten Hope 2, wich is a way more developped WW2 mod for BF2 and with many more fronts and has the Russian front coming too. This mini-mod was developped to see how a WW2 setup would play with Project Reality and 128 players gameplay.

Project Normandy is set on DDay landing and features the germans versus the US army. THE MOD DOES NOT AIM FOR HISTORICAL ACCURACY DON'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE WEIRD CAMOS, AND OTHER NON HISTORICAL STUFF (At least not for now and for many releases). For exemple, germans using bazookas untill we get a Panzersrheck model.

We use vietnam era models for the US kits, so don't be surprised. All is really WIP and we can't afford all the nice things yet without modelers or animators, still it's very enjoyable. We have only one map for now, and we don't have any US tanks, we have the M26 Pershing but that would be unfair agaisn't PZIIIs and IVs.

The mini-mod and the main mod revolve around Teamwork ALOT, like having to join a squad to have specific kits and way more other things.

The map is 2km wide and features beaches, Pointe Du Hoc style cliffs, bocages and villages. (Scroll the page right and left to see the full map)

The mod will feature 128 players slots server when we can.

128 players server was developped not a long time ago, like 7 months ago and is still being worked on, it was played on PR many times and on FH2 (WW2 BF2 mod). 128 players works great with squads management too. We hope to be able to have an event for Project Normandy.

Project Reality use mumble (a voice program) and we hope to have a mumble channel for Project Normandy soon, so when you will join Project Normandy servers and have PR_Mumble (a special mumble for PR) you will be auto-linked to the server and you will be able to talk localy with 3D positioned audio with team-mates around you! Works freaking great  ;)

Sounds are still very WIP and alot of other things

How to install :

1. Buy BF2 or re-install it.

2. Patch it to version 1.41, you don't need older patchs to patch it to 1.41.

3. Patch it to version 1.5

4. The mini-mod requires the big normal mod (wich is still awesome though) sadly, because it needs it's files.

5. To download the mod, get here and download the client version :

http://www.realitymod.com/downloads

6. Install, it and say yes to install PR_Mumble is it ask you to.

7. READ Project Reality's manual, otherwise you won't get jack**** of what's going on, PLEASE, have some time to read it. Don't come here and complain if you didn't read it. You can always ask questions on this thread.

8. Once installed download Project Normandy mini-mod at the top of this post.

The mini-mod is only one map for now, and to play it you must run the standard Project Reality mod. We will hopefully get more maps for the mod. Also the current map might feature tanks later on.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, ASK AWAY.

Here are some videos from Thursday gameplay and beta footage. I'm the commander on most rounds, my chat is in yellow . The server hits 64/64 players each day.

Ah yeah about the K98, it will do more damage for next release. Also most kits will have more ammo.

Was pretty fun.  So are they really going forward with this project beyond this release?  And does this mean they will be doing this the smart way from here on out and running off the FH2 mod?

AFAIK that is entirely possible as long as you need FH2 for launch. I don't see why you wouldn't do it that way.

Isn't this more PR than FH2? I assume this could prove troublesome, as you would be using content from both mods, and you can't be required to have 2 different mods installed, or can you?

What content from PR would they be using?

Waiit, guys we don't use content from FH2 and wont unless a dev let AfterDune do so, have permission, etc. For now we use alot of content from other BF2 mods that the permissions were granted and alot of sounds and other things from PR itself.

And yes the project is growing more than this release, new sounds are coming and we hope to get better models if we can, or things like 3D Ironsgiths.

We might developp a second map too, if it's not already in developpement.

Well i havent found time to try this yet, but are they not using most of the code? The rally points, no flag spawns, the hud, kit request system etc etc... Is this not the case?

Yes indeed Kradovech, it's all based on PR, since you need PR to play Project Normandy, you guys didn't read the first post?

Yes but we are talking about small little bits that can be plugged in map side and server side.  It is ten times more easy to bring a couple MB's of PR code to FH2 then bring GB's of WW2 to PR.   I know I keep beating the ever loving fuck out of this dead horse, but it is only because I care.  I really want to see something great come of this and would even love the opportunity to help out with coding and mapping.

problem is that code "belongs" to PR, it cant be used outside PR just as FH2 models cant be used outside FH2.

what could work is use both, fh2 models and pr code, require both mods to be installed in order to play project normandy, altrough that would be a lot of gb's for just a few maps (not my case trough, as i have both mods instaled xD)

Well look. We can't bring FH2 models to PR that's for sure.
And we can't bring the PR codes in FH2 too.

And we can't create a mod combining both either. Because this way we would need to ask permissions for both the models and the PR codes. So starting off PR is the best option.

So we better get permissions from other mods and get their models. BGF models are pretty good.

Nice gameplay video from the Whermacht side.

 From both sides.

Beach landing on Dog and why it's usually not a good idea. It's fun to see that most opt for beach landings in East Point now. Knowing this, today I set up a FOB there + HMGs at the beginning of the round (later on Dog too, but my team generally ignored it). It took longer than usual for the US to cap the beach and they had to do it from Fox - I can't be everywhere : P.

We had a nice round today Arc. But then, the next round, the US team got invaded by jackass that didn't follow my CO orders. Like 3 squads with personnal agendas, trying to go alone and failing. I finally left this team, going to be back when it clears off of morons.
