General / Re: What Makes a Good Infantry Map?
« on: 26-02-2011, 05:02:51 »
Something with no heavy artillery, but maybe a few mortars. Gotta have gun caches at bases so people can choose if you wanna put on the pressure from a distance or be part of the assault. Must have a couple fixed MGs, and must have a reason to make people helping each other out with medkits commonplace. No map has done the making medkits thrown at teammates commonplace as far as I've seen. No one ever calls out medic...

Must have Flammenwerfer 41 on some map however, Germans need their flamethrowers of death to combat the M1A1 flamethrower. I'd say flamethrowers, when used correctly, can really put the pressure on the enemy team and can sometimes initiate great teamwork to avoid the flamethrower and kill the user. Anything close quarters is a good map. I always liked combined arms maps, with light tank support to really add to the feeling.

Spawnable on any transport vehicle. APCs, cargo planes, or transport trucks. Cars I find are more for scouting than ordinary transport.

Bug Reporting / Re: Sniper rifle vs. normal rifle

I believe accuracy for both rifles should be equel. So ya put a scope on one... The only different is the scope that makes it a sniper rifle. Otherwise there's no difference. So I say, make the dang things equel if they're basically the same thing.

Playing as Commander, always try to think with strategy when ordering your forces. Keep in mind the enemy movements, commonly used enemy routes, and a quality tactic to lead your force to victory.

Don't just flank your enemies, bombard them and lower their will to play for their army. Use tactics such as the Pincer maneuver, and always support your teammates with supplies, vehicles to keep the advance going/resuppling areas in need of defense, and arty to "soften the attack zone."

These are really some of the best commander tactics I can come up with, besides try to always have an organized chain of command.

Also, eh, don't waste grenades unless you're in a despair situation (Such as being pinned down by an MG, and in such case only use rifle nades for better accuracy) or cannot take down a group of infantry due to a lack of fast firing weapon, that can react to the infantry seeing the direction of the rifleman who just took out their best friend.

Tactics & Tutorials / Re: Cover Fire
« on: 20-02-2011, 20:02:27 »
I usually find its best that the squad MG lays down covering fire, while his comrades advance, and then his comrades cover him so he can get back with the squad. As a fixed MG, stay crouched, often popping up to look for targets. Another nice tactic for cover fire is SPOTTING. Always helps to spot targets for whoever the heck is laying down fire so you can move  :P.

Though, I always seem to be hesitant to sniping with an SMG, even if it has a semi auto capability (Which no one seems to use, judging from the many times I've encountered SMG using comrades/enemies.

1: I would like the China vs. Japan front. I'd like to expierience the coastal invasions of China and resist against the Japanese opposition as a CHINESE GUY for once, as I find that no game has offered infantry combat of it yet.
2: I would like a Allied paratrooper landing map, supposedly Operation Market Garden or Operation Neptune, or even Operation Husky!
3: I would like ship-to-ship combat. I wouldn't be surprised if you were already working on this, as i saw a test of it on YouTube. I guess this part of this would be another map suggestion, but a U-boat vs. Allied convoy situation would be fun.
4: MGs can mount on all sorts of cover. A good example is Red Orchestra Ostfront. You can mount mobile MGs almost anywhere, whether prone or sitting behind a window or setting one up on sandbags.

Thank you for reading, assuming you do, and I wish you good luck in getting the Eastern front shipped and keeping your players pleased.

Tactics & Tutorials / Re: Can a mortar shell blow up a tank?
« on: 15-02-2011, 23:02:11 »
Only on medium and light tanks as far as I've seen. Haven't found a Tiger or Panther or whatever to run into my mortar shells. Arty pierces their armor as if they were tin cans.

Ha, I usually just use it for an antitank gun. I wish the devs would make it where the Stuka on foot had the driver as the guy manning the stuka too, even though the other way helps create good teamwork.

Tactics & Tutorials / Re: Distance with Rocket Launchers?
« on: 15-02-2011, 23:02:56 »
PIAT is a skill-required weapon.  Noobs in FH2 dont know how to use it. But one skilled person with a PIAT can ruin an entire armoured column

My record stands at 6 tanks in one game=2 tigers, 1 panther and 3 panzers IV on Villers-bocage
Everyone can take a faust and kill a sherman. PIAT is for the skilled.
Pfft, PIATs are eaaasy. You just have to look through the holes and compensate the distance. Otherwise, they dont require much skill.

Tactics & Tutorials / Re: How to bomb target accurately?
« on: 15-02-2011, 23:02:30 »
Upon dive bombing, I usually aim with the bottom of the targeting sights. Carpet bombing, I have no clue.

EDIT: Found that not using ironsights and going and a 45 degree angle or further downward will allow you to accurately place your bombs. In real life also, the Germans used the bombsights in the bottom of the plane to spot (Use your look around key in the plane and look downward to see it) and once they spotted something, being some 10,000 feet in the air, they would swerve around going downward, diving towards the target, and then release bombs, then flying away.

I like Q.6 answer A, as I'll try to pick them off one by one till reinforcements arrive. Of course, I try not to make too much noise with the shouting for dear help part.

FH 0.7 Help / Support / Re: FH1 help?
« on: 13-02-2011, 17:02:25 »
Yes... FH1 is a Battlefield 1942 modification. you need an authentic Battlefield 1942 updated to the latest version (1.6 + 1.61) to play FH.
So thats what I was missing... I didn't know I needed BF1942 1.61 to play FH. Thanks for the fix man!

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Problem running FH1 help!
« on: 13-02-2011, 17:02:29 »
I have the exact same issue, and same system. I'm using administrator as well as running in Windows 98/ME compatibility, but it still doesnt work upon loading maps. Crashes every time I load a map during singleplayer and always says I have the wrong version when I try to join a FH multiplayer session.
