General Discussion / Ramelle-Neuville Shenanigans?
« on: 30-04-2015, 07:04:01 »
During a recent game, Americans occupied the upper floors of a building on the SE side of the river, firing from windows upon the Germans after they had captured and crossed the bridge northwards. I did not see a way to reach them, even after checking it out later. They did similarly from behind a wall on the NE side of the river. How are those positions reached?

Patch 1.50 (in 2009) added widescreen capability -that is, allowing resolution selection in-game and rendering it correctly (though not the HUD) to expand the horizontal view while maintaining the same player perspective. Before that, forcing a widescreen resolution by any means would distort the aspect ratio and/or vertically crop the view.

As an alternative to widescreen, try 1024x768 with AR 4:3 but make sure to disable GPU and display scaling. Also noted here: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=20154.0

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Aspect Ratio not correct/working

Perhaps the resolution has not actually changed and is being scaled to fill. Take a screenshot and confirm it is 1920x1080. Disable scaling (or set centered) in Catalyst Control Center and Asus monitor settings. Try creating a new temporary profile to test with. Confirm the resolution in the applicable profile configuration file:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\ForgottenHp 2\Profiles\0001\Video.con
VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1080@60Hz

This screenshot shows no aspect ratio distortion:

Replying here instead of to your PM in case it can help anyone else.

If it is a memory limitation then changing an allocation (or frame buffer) setting may help but since played well online it may be a CPU limitation afterall (since not running the bots). You can also try creating your own multiplayer game to test without bots and enable the FH2 Launcher video option "Show frame rate in game" for comparison. You can also try "Limit the maximum frame rate" set at 60 to avoid wasting processing power on excess frames. Vsync should be disabled at least for testing otherwise the frame rate will drop to a fraction when it cannot be maintaned at the refresh rate (and so make comparison of different settings difficult). Back to the memory allocation, it should be simple enough to change a BIOS/UEFI option but it will not necessarily be provided (depending upon the manufacturer) and you should check the manual first anyway before messing around in there. ;)

4GB is plenty of system RAM but it is generally shared by the integrated GPU (higher end models include some embedded RAM), and FH2 requires more "graphics RAM" than BF2, especially with high textures. With a discrete graphics card, the graphics RAM is faster and if insufficient capacity causes less problems when swapped to system RAM, whereas system RAM is much slower to begin with and can only swap to the even slower storage drive. So, the first thing to try where possible is to allocate as much system RAM to the integrated GPU as possible -in the BIOS/UEFI setup options. Otherwise, lower the game texture option to medium.

FH2 Help / Support / Intel HD Graphics 4600?

How well (poorly) does Intel HD Graphics 4600 perform with FH2?

We do need more suppression though, as even being shot at by a 9mm will give you a higher heart-rate and test your nerves.

Tis but a scratch!  ;D

Other than the My Documents subfolder which may be recreated anyway there probably are not any files missing but just the registry entries. If a backup/clone exists then they could be retrieved most easily by booting and exporting from Registry Editor. Alternatively the old registry "hive" (system config files) may be loaded from the Registry Editor of any running Windows.

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Joystick issues
« on: 02-07-2014, 01:07:42 »
I strongly prefer to play FH2 but alas servers are not always populated.

Anyway, recalibrating the device yet again (and restoring an older Controls.con for good measure) resolved the drift. Also noticed "Controls.fh2" still exists under Battlefield 2 Profiles even though "ForgottenHp 2" was created for its own independent Profiles a few years ago so suppose it may as well be deleted?

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Joystick issues
« on: 20-06-2014, 01:06:43 »
I have a joystick (for flying only) connected via USB so there is no dead zone (unlike via Gameport) and currently while it is fine in FH2, in BF2 it causes the crosshairs to drift until the stick is moved around a lot to find a specific "sweet spot" where it is stable (without doing so infantry is unplayable). As far as I know FH2 and BF2 are configured the same but there is no GUI setting for joystick sensitivity anyway. I have tried recalibrating the device in Windows 7. Any idea why they behave differently and how to solve it?

Tried to join, but I didn't see the server. I also couldn't find an IP on the website you linked. I checked several times if the server maybe popped up later, but no luck  :(

Ditto. Oh well, now we know for next time.  :P

Suggestions / Re: Sound FH2

I have not tried Watchtower's Sound Conversion yet but see a patch was released for 2.46
http://www.762-ranking.de/forum/showthread.php?1136-Watchtower-s-Sound-Conversion-for-FH2

However, the original clientarchives.con should be saved, as the backup copy provided has not been updated.

FH2 Help / Support / FH1 crashing
« on: 16-04-2014, 00:04:03 »
What would cause FH1 to crash upon map load on W7 64-bit  (popup error on BF1942.exe)? Neither BF1942 nor other mods crash and even the original Berlin map will load in FH1. I did try reinstalling and even reducing compatibility mode from XP SP2 to 98/ME (interestingly, it limits max resolution to 960 rather than 1050).

Also, is there some modern graphics option that should be disabled to avoid a semi-transparent effect -especially to buildings?

Can the performance hit be so much with an HD7950? Please do post any different settings especially or if easy enough a screenshot.
