http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/7702846-418/official-more-than-75-injured-after-plane-crashes-at-reno-air-race.html
A P-51 configured for air racing crashed today right into the crowd, destroying the plane and killing at least 10 people the last I heard.
Video of the incident:

Some sources are saying that the P-51 in question was "The Galloping Ghost".

Yeah, saw it. That is just awful. My thoughts goes to the family of the pilot and that great, elegant, sexy plane that was lost :/
-
Seems every other month we lose another great plane, unfortunately with lives to go with.
-
I Read now that 12 people were killed and 30 wounded.

"It is like a massacre, it is like a bomb exploded. It lies humans everywhere on the airfield"

My GOD
-
That's horrible! All those people... And that beautiful plane... Gone forever...
-
Yeah, well, sorry for those people. Can't stop relating it to what happened just here in 1988, so growing up here pretty much keeps me from visiting any air stunt shows. :-\
-
last year some american complained that sanicole airshow forbidded the planes to fly close to the audience
this is why
-
I can only see news items which say that there are 3 dead. Where did you get the 10 and 12 from?
-
Condolences to the families of the victims.
Another great historical aircraft lost. I think it is time that people admire WW2 planes in museums.
Imo during airshows crowds should always be a safe distance from the main display. Accidents in the past occured with newer aircraft let alone vintage ones.

Very sad to see something like this happen.. I've read the pilot tried to steer away from the audience as soon as he noticed he was going down. Could have been much worse. Very noble of Leeward. Figure most people would just bail.
Still, I believe this will raise a lot of discussions. 'Was he too old?' and 'Are audiences close to airshows safe?'.

Wait, you are from the area of Kaiserslautern?
-
Holy shit only saw the video just now. What a brutal fuckin crash
-
Looks like it will impact right in the crowd, but it did not so i am inclined to say its a photo shop.
-
no it looks for me as it would crash right into or near to the white tent.
mh
Why are US showpilots allowed to fly over the people?
I though that after Rammstein incident it was law that shows must fly over own terrain, and are not allowed to fly over the crowd.
-
Maybe.
Anyway, less then 24 hours later this happened in Martinsburg
