as far as I remember from all my singleplayer time, they die and their kit shows up, I don't remember having guns collapsing from hands.

Another question then (cause i honestly don't know the answer).

What do these new engines lack (Arma2, OPF2, Crysis engine, etc. etc.) that BF2 has?

FH works best on the Battlefield engines because of the games signature conquest mode, the large maps sizes, and the number of players allowed. Not to mention FH has always been a Battlefield Mod.

The BF2 engine is awful, it's an abomination really. It's just not designed to be modded. You just have to hack things to try and get them to do what you want and hope it's possible. The dev team are HUGELY limited in what they can do. Frankly it's impressive how much people have got out of the BF1942/BF2 engines.

But while technologically speaking the engine is terrible, on non technical accounts it has some upsides. The basic game modes in BF2 are pretty much what's needed in FH2. Saving a huge amount of work. And you also have to remember that first, BF2 is a very popular game, and second, FH1 being based on BF1942 makes the engine a logical progression.

Now that's odd, why would someone delete my post?
Anyway my main point was that ArmA, OPF and Crysis all lack the player-numbers to validate making a mod on those engines. And other engines just ain't suited for the gameplay.

The most important lack of all those engines (ArmA2 and OFP2 not being released yet) is that they failed to draw a crowd. FH2 has more people playing online most of the time than Crysis in it's vanilla state for example.

Values from Game-monitor.com- People Playing at the Moment (10.05.09):

RO -                    123 CA
FH2 -                   124 CA
Crysis -                287 CA
ArmA -                 477 CA
PR -                     869 CA
America's Army- 1.896 CA
COD5 -              4.890
Battlefield 2-     13.387 CA
COD4 -            28.488
CS:S -             56.364

Edited a few other games into it.
CA stands for a game with more or less combined arms.

I gotta ask Kev/Fenring, what about the tank physics has been improved? I just love that you fixed the tank sliding that made more 50X more playable.

The tanks in general feel heavier, theres still sliding but maybe its less noticeable. Theres a fix for the sliding unfortunately it works very bad with a dedicated server.

Not that one. ;)
Well, sorta. Not exactly FH2's but Guderian's first released version of Tilly sur Suelles in WaW. It did have rain, and it was pretty fun. All it missed was Normandy stuff.

One issue that did come up with the rain was that some drops "exploded" in the air, like when it would hit ground I guess. I wonder if this was fixed for v2.2.

What about the PR system, their tanks slides only a few seconds after you stop and then they are perfectly still.
