From the 2.4 changelog discussion:
* Roads for Fruehlingswind (lili)
A short Google search lead me to battle for Kasserine Pass. There was a German operation called "Frühlingswind".
From Wikipedia, Tunisia Campaign / Battle of Sidi Bou Zid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunisia_Campaign#Battle_of_Sidi_Bou_Zid):
In Operation Frühlingswind von Arnim ordered four armoured battle groups forward on 14 February in the area of Sidi Bou Zid held by 34th Infantry Division's 168th Regimental Combat Team and 1st Armored Division's Combat Command A. The defenders' dispositions were poor, with concentrations dispersed so that they were unable to be mutually supportive. By 15 February CCA had been severely damaged leaving the infantry units isolated on hill tops. Combat Command C was ordered across country to relieve Sidi Bou Zid but were repelled with heavy losses. By the evening of 15 February three of the Axis battlegroups were able to head towards Sbeitla, 20 miles (32 km) to the northwest. Pushing aside the remains of CCA and CCC, the battlegroups were confronted by Combat Command B in front of Sbeitla. With the help of air support CCB held on through the day. However, the air support could not be sustained and the defenders of Sbeitla were obliged to withdraw and the town lay empty by midday on 17 February.

SWEET! Am I the onlyone that LOVES the desert maps?????????/ I feel alone. :|
-
No you are not! Actually I really think that 2.4 was best update to FH ever, and before that the title was for 2.15. I can't say I dislike the endless bushes of normandy, but I like more of desert and open snowy fields on bulge.
Edit: Thanks for info Kelmola :D
-
nice, the changelog is also very important imo.

...it will still be some time before we are ready to release our first Eastern Front patch. At the moment, most of our efforts are directed at finishing our remaining Africa, Normandy, and Battle of the Bulge maps...
That should really not come as any surprise to anyone familiar with FH2. New theaters always take awhile to come out. It is simply an unhappy truth. Fortunately they are invariably worth the wait.
Nice looking gun btw!

Omaha in next patch ;D?

Thank you all.

"Artillery ready for barrage", "enemy unit spotted!", "I need artillery fire!", "Yes", "Fire!" ....

Hopefully this means we'll see a ZiS-2 when the Eastern front comes along, since that's the one that's actually going to help against Tigers. Looks great none the less.

hehehe indeed. They could penetrate the Tiger at 500 meters with APHE rounds, 750 meters with APCBC rounds and they could penetrate the panther at normal ranges with the APCR round
All 3 of these rounds got supplied.
and ofcourse the 45mm M-42. They could easily pierce the Panzer III and IV frontal armor, but not the tiger, panther and PZIV ausf H. But it could penetrate there sides. And it also had HE and canister shells ;D
And the late war 100mm MS-3! The devestating dual purpose cannon wich penetrated 160mm of armor at 1000 meters with STANDARD ammo.
It could be present on a map with Operation Frühlingserwachen
-
Nice update! Thanks!
@ FlyboyFX: Re: Afrika Maps - No you're not alone mate! Love the open deserts!
Re More N. Africa Theatre Maps: In the last news update, the following was written:
We are back this week to present a render of another lightly skinned vehicle. This one however, will be better suited to the green hills of Italy rather than frozen tundras of Russia.
FH2 does not have any Italian maps.....so 8)

I wish that Battle of Keren will make it to the official next release (African map with Italians) I don't think we will see Americans in Africa as it needs new player models etc. so there won't be Kasserine Pass map, do not expect any Italian maps also as it is completely new front...

Us army have the same equipement for north africa and europeans theater.
-
Us army have the same equipement for north africa and europeans theater.
Not really. For a Kasserine map we need M3 lee's and diffrent aircraft. Also 37mm AT guns

I think he meant playermodels with equipment. How silly they would look in desert with those happy green clothes ;D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/76_mm_divisional_gun_M1942_%28ZiS-3%29
Armour penetration table for AP Projectile BR-350A
Distance, m Meet angle 60°, mm Meet angle 90°, mm
100 67 82
500 61 75
1000 55 67
1500 49 60
2000 43 53
These data were obtained by Soviet methods of armour penetration measurement (penetration probability equals 75%).
They are not directly comparable with western data of similar type.
the thing was very effective versus the early german tanks and the shell reached supersonic speed (thus the german slang name "ratsch bumm"), but panthers and tigers were rather save. if you look at that table it seems it can barely penetrate a panzer IV H at 100 metres with its regular round (edit: speaking about the hull, not the turret).

Not necessarily aircraft (though that would be a good bonus - P-38 is teh fap and could replace Mustang in Cobra since some G/H's externally almost identical to F were still in service in 1944; P-39 is almost as much fap and would be needed for the Eastern Front anyway; P-40 is almost a Forgotten Hope, and if you use D/E, aka Kittyhawk Mk I/Ia, could be used by the Commonwealth as well on NA maps, and later on the Eastern Front too), just different skins. During the North African Campaign, USAAF operated three groups of Spitfire Mk Vb's.

Thats why the Zis-2 needs to be added aswel
Also, keep in mind that soviet Penetration testing was done with regular manufactured ammo. German and americans often hand crafted the shells during testing to make sure there where no faults at all and it was in the best quality possible.

Nope.
Lies. Everyone know you can't finish off Normandy without Omaha. Pesky betatesters ;)

North Africa is a Medditerranian climate, not desert like Lybia and Egypt. They even get snow. So green uniform's aren't THAT bad (I should know, I live in the same climate, in a region called Los Angeles :P).
But yes, playermodels and etc would remain same. Only thing would be reskinned tanks, the Lee, and the 37mm AT gun, plus the 37mm AT mounted on jeeps.

Well I meant that as in game, not in real life. I haven't seen much vegetation on FH2 african maps and what little there is, it's not really green.
-
So Irene also affected FH2. Katia on her way? Best of luck! Nice update, and I bet there will be quite some surprises yet in the next patch, as always.
I can't wait to yell in FH2-Russian. Where VOIP is concerned, I'm also well underway, thanks to a great Russian/Bulgarian co-worker in the hospital. We often pump each other up when things hit the fan, using a wild variety of Dutch, German and Russian ;D

Because there are no FH maps that take place in the terrain the americans fought in :P

Yeah you understand why I was trying to say.
But we will need the browning 1917A1, lee, new skin, some new anti tank canon, new aircraft etc.
-
Is it just me? But why does the Russian used gun have 3 Red stars on it? shouldn't it have black crosses? Or The German one have red stars? I mean those are kills, right?
-
Teamkills...
-
Soviets denoted kills with red stars.
-
Oh ok. Nice. Now that's Realism! ;D
-
Apart from above-mentioned, an hypothetical Tunis campaign (or map) with US forces would require the M3 Halftrack variations imo:
-M3 Halftrack APC
-M3A1 Scout Car (M8 Greyouhund enterd in service in Italy)
-M3 Gun Motor Carriage (M10 Wolverine first battle was in El Guettar, late March 1943)
-T19 Howitzer Motor Carriage (though i think M7 Priest was already in service...)
-T28E1 or M15 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage as AA
-
Teamkills...
LOL...oh man so true. Perhaps someone should paint a few of those on the mortars ahead of time.
On a Normandy side note:
Would've loved to have seen more maps based on some of the larger cities rather than the countryside around them.
St. Mere Eglise / Carentan
Avranches / Argentan
St. Lo
Caen
Cherbourg

@WATCHTOWER
Ya, I am thinking City map.
I always thought Brest was a bit of a tease. It is a nice city map, but sma-all!. And still without everything.
I am hoping to see something with the cathedral at the end of the street. A large enough structure to not be put down by successive shots from a tank, but be honey-combed with sniper locations, and its tactical position at the end of a dual carriage makes it deadly from range, with only escape being the narrow side streets, the sewers, through houses and wine sellars. And AT guns and MG nests here and there.
A more destroyed area, and a more built up area... And enemy tanks able to lie in wait to ambush, rather than needing to rely on tank-tank street battles.
Well done, i am looking at the Brest-type map, that though larger, forces teams to move in corridors and in force, rather than scattered solo hunters.
A battle like Caen, Cherborg
Then yer, A NA American map.
Something DDay
A 'proper' bacage map.
'apartments' of tank-traps underneath hedgelines, allowing Germans to stay below the firing line while shooting from the hedge.
Open fields sepearated by hedgelines, 88s concealed in them, AT guns, Farmouses... Not A HOUSE, but HOUSES, a hill, with bocage leading up to its crest and a trench network atop it, mortars, bunkers etc...
I personally wish the devs NEVER call an end to Normandy or NA... but do as and when. A new map will always be needed. I don't think one more release will allay this need.
-

Am i not the only one who once dreamnt of a 12x12km city map, i know lagz and all but 1 could dream amiright.

I wish that Battle of Keren will make it to the official next release...
We should start a petition to have this awesome map included... :)
-
For the red stars, Orders of Stalin were to not paint victories with "german crosses".
Actually, only the guys of Normandie Niemen did not respect this rule.
-
Is the Zis-3 the gun, that the Germans used in Africa ?
-
I think it was mounted on Marder III's
-
Awesome update as always. Thank you very much. 8)
-
I think it was mounted on Marder III's
Nope, thats the 76mm divisional gun F-22 M1936
The 76.2mm Divisional gun Zis 3 was both a anti tank gun as an Artillery gun.
This means that it can be used in both ways?Yes?
-
I know that there was a Russian in Africa, used by the Germans. They captured them in Russia and used them in Africa, due their good performance
-
You mean russian Zis-3's in africa. Yes, there were, at El Al :P

yeah, would need two copletely different sights and ballistics for the shots, so it would just end up messy. Russians will probably get a mortar + katjusha for artillery.
-
+ 122mm howitzers?
-
+ 122mm howitzers?
^this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/122_mm_howitzer_M1938_(M-30)
The M-30 was the most used Howitzer of them all. With 19 000 built.
Russian artillery was superior to german in every way. The M-30 had the same ROF as the LEFH 18, but fired a shell with a filling weight of 3.67KG of explosives, while the Lefh 18 only had 1.38 KG
Why do i suddently get the feeling the Russians wont be getting there good stuff because it will be considerd OP....

Haha, you didn't get that feeling suddenly, you already have it for a few years now ;)

And talking to many people actually strengthend the feeling
Common! you cant let out the 122mm ML-30! That was like one of THE bad-ass iconic russian artillery. Did you knew that the Germans gave the order to there troops to CAPTURE russian artillery as much as possible because it was far better then there own?
Btw, will we also see beutewaffe on the German team? A PPSH converted to 9mm would be So awesome
-
What are you basing your assumptions on?
An official statement?
Some moderator's hunch?
Your own paranoia about everything being biased against the Allies?
It was funny two years ago, not anymore.
-
Paranoia? No my friend. I have seen enough. The way FH2 changed of the past Releases... I wassent the only one who saw them, i was amazed infact by the replies i got from people from wich i dint infact expected it. How they felt the exact way as i did.
I have hopes for Eastfront though. But the current Bulge theatre was a huge letdown for me...And others..
I am the only one who actually dares to say it.
But let us not discuss this here, if you wanna discus this, feel free to add me on Steam
So back on the ZiS3 topic=Will we see this in El alamein?
-
i was amazed infact by the replies i got from people from wich i dint infact expected it. How they felt the exact way as i did.
I am amazed by the fact all those replies you get are always in pm's and never in the threadss where the actual discussion is. Why are all those people not simply posting in those threads? I did, the few times I agreed with you.
-
Let's follow Theta's great idea and go back on topic. ;D
As for the ZiS on El Alamein, maybe, but probably not in the next release.
