Imploding tanks
« on: 16-08-2010, 20:08:12 »
I always wanted to post this but I never got to it. You know the ability in Brothers in Arms, when you come close to a tank you can press E and the guy would climb up on the tank, open the hatch and toss a grenade in it? Why can't we have this in form of an opening on the top?

If you can kill with a gun a driver of an APC,Wolverine etc. why can't we kill crew members in tanks?

IRL tank crews locked their hatches.
Their are only a few occasions when this actually happend. Even the stubborn russian high commanded orderd none of their tank crews not to open their hatches during battle. Back then, friendly soldiers would knock in a style on the hatch, to allow to communicate.

Finnish soldiers simply copied the knocking.....and you know what happens next.

Not only a challenge, but also completely ridiculous.

The hatches were tightly locked whenever there was a change that enemy infantry could get too close.

Well I'm looking in this way..... In cities, when they had to traverse through streets I guess the tank commander HAD to open it up and check the surroundings, no?

EVEN THOUGH if it is ridiculous, I can't see how an easy kill would it be, since it's a problem enough to climb on the damned thing let alone walking on the tank. You would be shot probably in 95% of the cases. So I was just hinting at why don't we have an alternative way of killing tanks by infantry?

P.S. in BiA you had to kill the commander and after he was dead you could jump on and throw it in.

No.

It's already too easy for the infantry to kill tanks. There is no way it should be made even more easier and definitely not by something silly and unrealistic.

I love how in Darkest hour you can kill Panzer 3 driver by shooting trough the vision port with Thompson, so awesome.

The shooting the driver through the vision slit sounds interestingly plausible imho. Amazingly difficult I'd imagine, and only plausible if you are standing close enough to the tank to... well lets just say if you miss you won't be trying that again. Well 30 secs actually. I mean there is also that time between the next time and... Oh bother with the details. The entire idea is unique but probably not worth adding for what little it adds.

EDIT: and the original idea, sounds interesting for a mini-game... er... Actually I just call shenanigans on the entire idea.

Also tanks usually had bullet proof glass in the slits.

Really? For some reason it's amazing me that 60 years ago there was bullet proof windows. I mean, there were also nukes and radios and... Actually a question if you will. How effective was this bullet proof-ness?
