I always wanted to post this but I never got to it. You know the ability in Brothers in Arms, when you come close to a tank you can press E and the guy would climb up on the tank, open the hatch and toss a grenade in it? Why can't we have this in form of an opening on the top?
If you can kill with a gun a driver of an APC,Wolverine etc. why can't we kill crew members in tanks?
-
Oh dear...
-
So I'm guessing it would be a challange?

So I'm guessing it would be a challange?
IRL tank crews locked their hatches.
Their are only a few occasions when this actually happend. Even the stubborn russian high commanded orderd none of their tank crews not to open their hatches during battle. Back then, friendly soldiers would knock in a style on the hatch, to allow to communicate.
Finnish soldiers simply copied the knocking.....and you know what happens next.
-
So I'm guessing it would be a challange?
Not only a challenge, but also completely ridiculous.
The hatches were tightly locked whenever there was a change that enemy infantry could get too close.
-
Well I'm looking in this way..... In cities, when they had to traverse through streets I guess the tank commander HAD to open it up and check the surroundings, no?
EVEN THOUGH if it is ridiculous, I can't see how an easy kill would it be, since it's a problem enough to climb on the damned thing let alone walking on the tank. You would be shot probably in 95% of the cases. So I was just hinting at why don't we have an alternative way of killing tanks by infantry?
P.S. in BiA you had to kill the commander and after he was dead you could jump on and throw it in.
-
No.
It's already too easy for the infantry to kill tanks. There is no way it should be made even more easier and definitely not by something silly and unrealistic.
-
Thats BIA.
This is FH2.
Beside it wouldnt be possible with the engine anyway
-
Tsokey. I was just asking/wondering. Then close that top on the Wolverine ;D Ferrari Hard-Top 8)

I love how in Darkest hour you can kill Panzer 3 driver by shooting trough the vision port with Thompson, so awesome.
-
Surely it's to be possible to kill the Tiger on Ramelle with a pistol?
-
The shooting the driver through the vision slit sounds interestingly plausible imho. Amazingly difficult I'd imagine, and only plausible if you are standing close enough to the tank to... well lets just say if you miss you won't be trying that again. Well 30 secs actually. I mean there is also that time between the next time and... Oh bother with the details. The entire idea is unique but probably not worth adding for what little it adds.
EDIT: and the original idea, sounds interesting for a mini-game... er... Actually I just call shenanigans on the entire idea.
-
Also tanks usually had bullet proof glass in the slits.
-
Really? For some reason it's amazing me that 60 years ago there was bullet proof windows. I mean, there were also nukes and radios and... Actually a question if you will. How effective was this bullet proof-ness?
-
Effective enough that I never heard of even Rifle bullets killing people through there in "modern" tanks.
-
Guess since I didn't even know there was glass in the windows I'll have to take your word on it unless I find anything different. Still surprised though, don't know why.
-
Bullet proof glass is really simple, so I'm sure it's been around for some time. It's usually nothing more than a whole bunch of thin glass plates glued together with some clear resin.
-
Periscopes and/or vision slits with bullet-resistant glass. There's really no way that small-arms fire could take out a tank. Anything other than light Japanese tanks shot with 7,62 mm AP rounds anyway.
Russian anti-tank soldiers were taught to shoot the vision slits with anti-tank rifles though. I could imagine that would do the trick, but it's an AT weapon after all.
-
Thats a nasty little trick to aim for the vision slits with AP rounds. Difficult little trick too I'd think.
-
Its not to hard with fragments of metal flying everywere when the round impacts. Just need a single impact or a couple cracks to ruin somebodys view, especially on a telescopic sight.
-
But the shot though. I'm aware that lying down gives you a good aiming position, also that the large caliber AT rounds didn't have a problem with trajectory. However, I know a few good marksmen myself, my dad being an Ex-Marine and a champion AAA sunshine classic shooter 2 or three times in a row. But to hit that tiny target at a distance which is safe enough to not have any pressure seems to be a difficult shot. I don't think they used anything other than Iron sights to accomplish this either.

The only scoped AT rifle of the war was italian :D
-
Well after almost loosing to Ethiopia and having to call on hitler, Italy had to do something right.
-
Panzer 3 had no bulletproof glass IRC, you could easily shoot trough it if you were close enough. Also many other early tanks we have in Africa didn't have any.
-
You guys do know you can jump on top of the m10/m18 and shoot the driver out? I have done it a couple of times myself :D Hell you shoot the driver out if you get close enough, because his head is exposed! Having only 1 faust sucks sometimes...
-
IIRC the StuG III had bullet proof glass as well, so why should the PzIII have none?

It's an open topped tank hunter. Why shouldn't we not know it? ^^

he said early panzer III models
stug (at least the tank hunter variants) was developed quite a bit later

Ah Happy you nitpicker... ;)

And even if you don't penetrate it, leaves quite a crack, try driving a car with the glass cracked :P
-
Sure, that's just a bit hard to implement in FH2 ;)
-
Not suggesting that, only backing up your comment with another reason for the Russians to fire at those things.
-
I know <3

swizz.. ;)

Swiss are awesome too, so awesome they decided to give their awesomeness to the awesomenest nation.

No problem, use the commander as your eyes ;)
-
Who says his visors can't be cracked?
-
Then, can we put a grenade in the exhaust pipes/exhaust lead?
-
No. Stop being silly.
-
you could also put a cork in the tank gun and watch the tank then explode.
seriously this is FH2 not bugs bunny vs elmer fudd
-
Why? Silly is what I AM. But seriously, you can surely think of numerous ways of disabling a tank without explosives, or with small explosives.
Make a hole and cover it with a tent or whatever and when it drives over it - BUUM he's trapped.
OK, going in a way distant point. You can lock this.
-
Thanks. With pleasure.
