Historically, the "age of consent" was determined for the start of her period. So for centuries, if not millennia, if not millions of years, JB was legal. Messing with prepubescents was still considered inappropriate and often punished, and I would say that 11 years old is a MILF in Pedobear's eyes.
It was only since late in 19th century when hypocritics and sexphobics (read: religious right and hairy feminists) started screaming and bit by bit forced the limit higher and higher with reasoned arguments like "Won't you think of the children". Also, the idea that childhood should last until you get the right to vote is a very recent construct. "Children" in the age of Smith and Pocahontas were in all likelihood much more mature because they could not have been held in artificial bubble, safe from the realities of the world. They had seen births, deaths, grown-ups "doing it", there was no FCC to filter out the dirty words, they had been working for years because in a pre-industrial society everyone worked from the moment they could do something useful. So the 11-year old Pocahontas most likely understood realities of life and the meaning of sexual relationships much better than the average 16-year old chav of our age (who's legal in most places outside the certain states in the Land of the Free).
The question remains: if for most of human history it was perfectly healthy and normal for men to lust after maidens post-menstruation but pre-your current local AoC, why do people think it's sick now? "Pedophile" in the true meaning of the word means a sick frak who's interested in pre-pubescent children all the way up to infants. "Ephebophile" is someone who is primarily interested in young, post-pubescent individuals, but that is not even considered to be a proper sickness (unlike pedophilia). For someone, who is interested in both teens and older, there is not even a name because biologically that's perfectly normal. Social pressure might force you to show that interest only to persons relatively close to your age, but that has nothing to do with biology or even morality.
