Title: The Nightman cometh!
Post by: Ts4EVER on 21-06-2012, 22:06:02
The Nightman cometh

The night is dark and full of terrors, which makes it the perfect time for close combat battles and stealthy sneaking around. However, so far FH2 has been regrettable light on night maps (no pun intended). This will change in FH 2.45, thanks to a new technique devised by Schism-RvtL. The 32 layers of the maps Eppeldorf and Keren will take place at night, adding more variety to FH2's map pool.

Eppeldorf

Last but not least, we have some good news for fans of fast and dirty infantry action: Vossenack, Gazala and Eppeldorf will feature the new game mode "King of the hill" in their 16 layers. In this game mode both teams fight for a single flag in the middle of the map. Once the flag has been held by one team for a set amount of time, they win the round. This quick and action packed game mode is perfect for starting up servers or passing the time on a slow night and was designed and implemented by Natty.

That's all for now, but stay tuned for more explosive FH2 devblogs!

Great work, didn't expect to get so many great stuff in the future patch.

I think we will never see and I understand why but it would be epic that the vehicles on these maps(if there are any on 32?) would be able to turn headlights on like the static opel blitz on anctoville but I also think it would be unneeded extra work since it may not get used and it would be bad gameplay for its drivers since they are spotted directly and it is maybe even hard to code or impossible for this engine to make. :( but it would still be epic to see.

I do not like the fact that Karen will be at night. All the beauty and all the efforts in vain :(

Awesome stuffs guys!

And I especially can't wait to see KotH mode. That is FH2 for regular FPS fans.

Btw guys, even though these are on 32p layers, they are basically just alternatives for 64p layers. So I'd  assume that these will show up on hslan maplist at some point.

Would love to see the 32-plyr Eppledorf mini-map too!

Great lighting, but Eppeldorf will definitly stay light for me as I play Coop mode. The map is just too beautiful to do that.

Actually, the farm flag in the south and the German mainbase are deleted and the Americans attack.

This picture of dense forest on night is simply awesome. Imagine how awesome it will be when it will be the time for a night map in the jungle of a little pacific island !!!

2.45 King of the Hill maps

Eppeldorf - 16
Vossenack - 16
Purple Heart Lane - 16
Gazala - 16
Mount Olympus - 16
Tunis - 16
Anctoville - 16

The team that has owned the central flag for 10 minutes wins  :)

unless gazala 16 is changed to the Hill bunker and trench system (not the current deleted area of Bir Hakeim), I can easily foresee this being a terribly boring map. The current Gazala 16 is a rapefest with practically no worth to it, no opportunities to flank, no cover and the house doesn't even have mirrored access which ensures Allied superiority. (I admit being biased in that Gazala 16 is the only map that ensures I will quit playing Fh2 and get something worthwhile done)

Bir Hakeim changed to its' own 16/32 sized map would be hella fun though, especially to give props to the Foreign legionnaires who put up such a valiant defence. A french defence put up against the German onslaught of tanks and artillery would play out extremely well, would have tons of replay value and would also breathe life into a map area that never should have been removed from the larger gazala iterations.

I can easily imagine a small German main with APC's and a couple of tanks, some artillery and a few pick up kits. The French side could have their weak arsenal of 2 pounders, a mortar, no special kits but instead they would be essentially bled to death by a combined arms effort on the part of the German's but without proper resource management (have a slow tank respawn); the German side would be ensured defeat provided that the Bir Hakeim defence's are left uncaptured until the map ends.

Kind of like how Hurtgen Forest currently plays at the last line of German defences...

that's a shame. unless you can alter the design of the building in the centre flag area this will be a very one-sided map in favour of the Allies.

p.s.  please add ammo boxes and pick up kits to the small maps, PLEASE

there's a feedback section for it here where you can post ingame experiences once the patch is out

 Lol natty,
I play on Wolf Thursdays and after literally hundreds (if not thousands) of hours exclusively playing the 16 and 32 player maps I can tell you that this will be a hot mess.

The King of the Hill concept would work perfectly on the Hill complex flag though. All those bunkers and trenches would make for epic combat, tons of flanking opportunities and would provide amazing defensive opportunities.

P.S. you guys ignore most feedback from that section as we have been requesting pick up kits and ammo boxes on the small maps for years now.

I will gladly do it myself if none of you will.

no, we read the feedback very carefully and I have personally implemented tons of fixes based on those threads.

And since you havent yet played the koth version, I'll happily read your posts in the gazala thread after release, Im sure you'll have plenty to say about it.

Box flag gets enough attention and game play in the 64 version, I didnt feel like using it for Koth, also there arent any good places to spawn people around that flag. Koth works so there's no spawn at the flag you fight over, it's a game mode about constant reinforcements.

well so much for adding ammo boxes and pick up kits to the small maps, as has been requested for years.

I understand how King of the Hill works Natty, it's not exactly a new concept. All I wanted to do was express concern over potential balancing issues. Assuming that no physical changes are made to Bir Hakeim's layout, there will be and currently is, an issue where the Allied side can climb to the roof of the house under cover while the german advance is not afforded such an opportunity.

I guess those kinds of suggestions just don't work when you know it all   ::

Your concern has been noted and Natty has requested the map to be tested in 16p mode internally. No need to be snappy like that.

IIRC the french were using 75mm guns, so probably more accurate to use the british 6lber, to represent the power the 75mm had against German tanks of the time.

That is a neat idea, but pretty pointless imo unless its possible to have different voice commands and teams for different layers.

I was implying as a new stand alone map that could accomodate any number of players. A truly 16/32/64 capable map that needs hardly any work at all to complete as the bone structure is in place.

It would be a Bir Hakeim map.  not the "forgotten, deleted part of Gazala map"

Right you are but I was kind of suggesting the 2 pounder as a feeble substitute for the 47mm guns. Assuming it was a small map, the 75mm/ 6 pdr. would be overpowered.

When Gazala 2.0 came out, the guns in place were the very 2 pdr's I suggested. Not accurate, but good enough for a map hack.

Your concern has been noted and Natty has requested the map to be tested in 16p mode internally. No need to be snappy like that.

I was only being as facetious as Natty was. I raised a valid concern and all he tried initially was to discredit my concerns. All the other King of the Hill maps will work out fine but giving the high ground to one side, on a map that is already a wasteland of rape and rage-quit was,and is,an invitation for disaster.

I think it would be awesome to copy Gazala's heightmap and then just use the Bir Hakeim area for its independant map complete with the french faction defending the place. Could then use different light settings and such for it.

It would be pretty epic to see Bir Hakeim as a stand-alone map. Toss a couple unique French guns its way and you'd have a gem!

Ahh the dreams I'd love to see come to reality...
