I think this tip might also help: As squad leader or squad member, rally with your squadmates instead of just being lost across the map, fighting in completely different places, an organized ragtag band of nothingness.
Defensive: Once rallied, reinforce the position and have your squad leader/assign your squad/squadmates to [a] specific area. Once done, start looking for targets and fire away.
Offensive: After being rallied, first have your squad leader/yourself define the route of attack, as there are many different ways to attack on some maps. Take El Alamein for example. Say, you're a British squadleader, and you wanna get behind militeriya ridge and attack from the rear. There are 2 main routes you could take, each of which could have some downside. Go near Kidney ridge, and you might get pounded by the anti tank guns (if it isn't already captured/having all guns silenced) on the way to your destination. If you go East... Well, the only thing stopping you is probably a paranoid engineer who laid mines about the place/you're in a light vehicle and someone has the flak truck there.
