The deployable 8.8 was on Prokhorovka where you find the 8.8 mounted on the Sd.Kfz. 7 nowadays. It was also on Fall Weiss.
I ran FH on a AthlonXP 1.6 at that time, and when leaving the base I had FPS drops below 10 when passing the tank traps in german main. But that was basically similar to the FPS drop I had, when I moved up to the hill in reach of the russian base with any vehicle. I guess that map was never won in the early days because nobody had the balls to go up there in a tiger dealing the enemy while lagging to hell.
So I always stayed away from any objects and hid(!) in the shadow of a lonely tree. But the second problem was the hit detection. Even if you've been shot and received a direct hit accompanied by a danging sound the gun received no damage. I guess that made many tankers really mad. They needed 2 or 3 shots to kill me and that was enough time to blast those tincan T-34s with one shot from the 8.8.
And then, it was a bit glichy. It was a halftrack with a trailer that could be swung out including the gun footholds and thus it must have had unusual dimensions. So you needed flat terrain or a tree it would slip into to make it stop slipping. And then it could happen that the whole gun started shaking, making it hard to aim properly.
On top of that the gun needed to be deployed from the driver seat using arrow keys up and down, like raising ship ramps. Then the gun was fixed and the vehicle could not be driven from the driver seat any longer. But as long the vehicle was moving shooting the gun once from seat #2 damaged the vehicle itself and reduced its health to 20 percent. A second shot killed it.
So, what usually happened was this:
1. somebody entered the gun, lagged and drove into the next crowd.
2. somebody stopped driving, did not deploy the gun properly and shot himself.
3. somebody entered the gun while a driver was driving and tried to shoot enemies while moving, thus blowing up himself and the driver.
All these actions led to serious WTFs.
In short: Using this gun was like science, you could always search for great ambush positions, improvements and fixes to deal the problems. In the end you knever knew whether you rid the gun or the gun rid you.
