Walpurgis Night
« on: 29-04-2011, 13:04:45 »
Quote from: wiki
Walpurgis Night is a traditional spring festival on 30 April or 1 May in large parts of Central and Northern Europe. Its celebration is associated with dancing and with bonfires.

Quote from: wiki
In Finland, Walpurgis day is, along with New Year's Eve and Midsummer, the biggest carnival-style festival held in the streets of Finland's towns and cities. The celebration, which begins on the evening of 30 April and continues to 1 May, typically centres on copious consumption of sparkling wine and other alcoholic beverages.

;D

So, what are your plans for tomorrow and the 1st of May? For Finns I'm guessing picnics and partying? :)

Depends on weather. I won't be out if it's raining.

In The Netherlands it's Queensday tomorrow (and non-official Queensnight tonight). People from all over Holland come to Amsterdam to celebrate making the city and the canals basically look like this.

It's kind of a love-hate thing: as an event it's cool (big party/numerous parties throughout the city) but people who live in Amsterdam mostly steer clear of the centre because of masses of drunk non-Amsterdammers taking over the city. Due to the day (saturday) and the weather (sunny) they expect a million extra people in Amsterdam tomorrow (usually it's around 500 000/700 000).
For instance: that bottom picture is taken at the Museumplein. There is a big music festival there, supposedly for the people of Amsterdam. But the music is awful (mainstream top 40 shit), it's too commercial and it only attracts people from outside Amsterdam. That's a pity, but if you know where to go and with whom, it's an awesome day. Just a lot soundsystems/bands and drinking/smoking on the streets, life's good.  :)

Tomorrow I'm going boating for a bit (it's hella busy on the canals but quite the experience) and later visit some friends who're having a party outside their store. Tonight going out to a party where a friend of mine has to DJ.

Enjoy your Walpurgis!

Some year I'll have to go to the Blocksberg and have a proper Walpurgis with the witches there, just like Faust. Oh the joys.  ;D

FAUST:
Da sitzen zwei, die Alte mit der Jungen;
Die haben schon was Rechts gesprungen!

MEPHISTOPHELES:

Und schon vom Paradiese her.
Von Freuden fühl ich mich bewegt,
Daß auch mein Garten solche trägt.

MEPHISTOPHELES (mit der Alten):
Einst hatt ich einen wüsten Traum
Da sah ich einen gespaltnen Baum,
Der hatt ein ungeheures Loch;
So groß es war, gefiel mir's doch.

DIE ALTE:
Ich biete meinen besten Gruß
Dem Ritter mit dem Pferdefuß!
Halt Er einen rechten Pfropf bereit,
Wenn Er das große Loch nicht scheut.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
And in English:
Faust.
Yonder sit two, one old and one young thing.
They have already done some right good capering.

Mephistopheles.
There is no rest today for young or old.
A new dance starts; come now let us take hold!

Faust [dancing with THE YOUNG WITCH].
Once came a lovely dream to me.
I saw therein an apple tree;
Two lovely apples on it shone,
They charmed me so, I climbed thereon.

The Beauty.
The little apples man entice
Since first they were in Paradise.
I feel myself with pleasure glow
That such within my garden grow.

Mephistopheles [with THE OLD WITCH].
Once came a wanton dream to me.
I saw therein a riven tree;
It had a monstrous hole;
'Twas huge, yet I was pleased with it.

The Old Witch.
I proffer now my best salute
To you, the knight with horse's foot!
Let me a proper cork prepare,
If him a big hole does not scare.

Can't be bothered to do anything with Queen's Day, nor do I feel like wearing a silly hat.

Tomorrow will be a magic day of driving.

Queensday is like the 1st of January, I rarely see the light of day ;D

Queensnight in Utrecht or the Hague is the place to be. We're getting 300.000 extra citizens tonight and tomorrow.

The only version of Internationale I will ever sing:

Mera brännvin på glaset,
Mera glasen på vårt bord,
Mera bord på kalaset,
Mera kalasen på Jord.

Mera jordar kring Månen,
Mera måner omkring Mars,
Mera marscher till Skåne,
Mera Skåne, BEVARS BEVARS BEVARS!

And almost the same in Finnish:

Lisää viinaa mun lasiin,
lisää laseja pöydälle,
lisää pöytiä näihin juhliin,
lisää juhlia kansalle.

Lisää kansaa maan päälle,
lisää maita maailmaan,
lisää maailmaa Suomelle,
marssitaan KARJALAAN KARJALAAN KARJALAAN!

I got appointments on monday. I'll go nowhere. Besides the whole next week will be very busy for me. Otherwise I'd end up here:

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

Same here, except slightly different:

Mera brännvin i glasen
mera glas på vårt bord
mera bord på kalasen,
mera kalas på vår jord.

Mera jordar kring månen
mera månar kring Mars
mera marscher till Skåne,
mera Skåne, bevars, bevars bevars!

Lisää viinaa mun lasiin,
lisää laseja pöydälle.
Lisää pöytiä näihin juhliin,
lisää juhlia kansalle.

Lisää kansaa Suomeen,
lisää Suomea päälle maan.
Lisää maata Suur-Suomelle,
marssitaan, marssitaan, Karjalaan,
KARJALAAN!

Translation:

More booze in our glasses
more glasses on our table
more tables for the parties
more parties on earth

More earths around the moon
more moons around Mars
more marches to Skåne
more Skåne, good heavens!

More booze in my glass
more glasses on the table
more tables to this party
more parties for the people

More people for Finland
more Finland to the earth
more lands to Great-Finland
we march, we march, to Karelia, TO KARELIA!

(Karelia being the lands that Soviet Russia took from us)
