--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Forgotten Hope 2 Campaign : Rendez Vous with Destiny has now finally came to an end and a new land of battle is now approaching on the horizon very soon. Another proud campaign has now finished and will be locked away soon, but not to be forgotten. It has been a campaign of dramatic scenes and breath taking action compiled into 10 mouth-watering battles. There was a total of 194 players that played through the campaign, with the server being at its max peak(64 players) for 5-6 hours, on fully customized maps provided by Forgotten Honor and other individual out lets.

[101] 101st Airborne Division  vs [130] 130.Panzer-Lehr Division

Sainte-Mère-Église
(Axis - 222 Allied - 4)

June 7th, 1944. Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne have held the town of Sainte-Mère-Église for nearly 24 hours against numerous counterattacks. Now the 4th Armored Division coming from Utah Beach has linked up with the troops in the town, just in time for the next German counterattack...

"Sneaking up to the church tower with a sniper and taking pot shots at the Germans down by town centre or wherever the popped up, as well as spotting tanks, and taking out APC gunners like a pro from above... " - The_Only_Topgun

"Map I just love it lots of detail for a tournament map and the city fighting felt natural it wasn’t this standard town with houses and a few empty spaces between them the whole place was spiced up good really something for a scrim next campaign would love to play it again" - Wasntmenl

Bloody Gulch
(Axis - 31 Allied - 367)

When the 101st Airborne entered the town of Carentan on June 12, 1944 after heavy fighting on the two previous days, they met relatively light resistance. The bulk of the surviving German defenders had withdrawn to the southwest the previous night after a heavy Allied naval and artillery bombardment. Both sides realised the importance of the city: for the Americans, it was a link between Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, and would provide a base for further attacks deeper into German-occupied France. For the Germans, recapturing Carentan would be the first step towards driving a wedge between the two U.S. landing beaches, and possibly destroying or severely disrupting the Allied invasion. At dawn on June 13th the counterattack by the 6th FJR and 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division came...

"Defence of the Destroyed 88 in the last round! Our small squad delayed the advance of half of the Axis division with me claiming 11 kills before I got killed."

"It was just generally great rounds due to being an awesome regiment." - godofurmum2

Foucarville
(Axis - 524 Allied - 15

When the orders came for Operation OVERLORD, the 502nd was tasked to parachute on Drop Zone ‘’A’’ and secure the two northerly exits behind Utah Beach. The 3rd Battalion was tasked to secure Exit #4 and Exit #3 near the village of Foucarville. The 1st Battalion were responsible for destroying four roadblocks with German emplacements located southwest of Saint Martin de Vareville. On the evening of 5 June 1944, the paratroopers of the 502nd boarded transport aircraft and lifted off into the evening sky. In the early morning hours of 6 June 1944 over France, four battalion serials came in ten minutes apart. The leading planes, scattered by low clouds and German antiaircraft fire, dropped the majority of the 2nd Battalion outside of their drop zone and scattered them across the French countryside.

"The funniest game ever played in F|H. The TS conversations were brilliant and I wished they were recorded."
- Spartanlegend

"Allied mortars. I felt like they're after me all the time. When I was driving around a shell hits in front of me, then I take a sharp turn to right, continue that way, another shell passes right by me, I changed direction again and kaboom. It was damn frustrating and I was like WTF!!! Laughing
Not to mention their direct hits on me when I was passing some random location! "
- Erwin

Amfreville
(Axis - 127 Allied - 67

In the early hours of D-Day, a second wave of C-47's carrying airborne infantry over the coast of Normandy, heads towards the Merderet River. Their mission: To secure or destroy bridges over the Merderet River leading to the beaches at Utah. Despite flying at low levels, the heavy cloud cover and fog, along with the heavy fire from the German AA flak batteries, disperses the C-47's and their para-drops over a wide area. Far from their original objectives and with equipment lost, the airborne infantry must find a way to group up and secure the roads in and leading out of a little town called Amfreville.

Bloody Gulch

Carentan - Hill 30 , France , 13 June , 1944

When the 101st Airborne entered the town of Carentan on June 12, 1944 (D-Day + 6) after heavy fighting on the two previous days, they met relatively light resistance. The bulk of the surviving German defenders (from the 6th Fallschirmjäger Regiment) had withdrawn to the southwest the previous night after a heavy Allied naval and artillery bombardment.

The remnants of the 6th Fallschirmjäger resupplied and were reinforced by assault guns and panzergrenadiers of the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division on the night of June 12–13. The combined force counterattacked northeast towards Carentan at dawn on June 13, just as the 506th and 501st PIR were attacking southwest to enlarge the American defensive perimeter around the town. The 506th took the brunt of the attack, and by 10:30 a.m., the outnumbered and outgunned paratroopers were pushed almost back to the outskirts of the city.

Under intense German fire, F Company of the 506th's left flank broke and fell back. This exposed D Company's right flank, who also fell back, leaving E Company all alone. The commanding officer of F Company was relieved on the spot by Colonel Strayer. When a German StuG assault gun attempted to penetrate the left flank, Lt. Harry Welsh and Pvt. John McGrath of E Company successfully destroyed it with a bazooka. This gave time for battalion headquarters to stop the retreat of D and F companies, pushing them forward 150 meters to cover the left flank.[1] The 2nd Battalion of the 502nd PIR took up positions to the right of the 506th, but by 1:00 p.m. they too had suffered many casualties, and the German attack was on the edge of breaking through their defenses.

Graignes

Graignes, France, 10 June , 1944

There was no sign of the enemy and all was quiet that morning, the first Sunday since the invasion began. That being the case, Maj. Johnston gave permission for some of the men to attend Mass. They arrived just as the parish priest, Father Albert Leblastier, began the liturgy right on time at 1000 hours. At about the same time, Capt. Brummitt heard firing south of the village, rushed to the scene and quickly determined that a large German force was approaching Graignes from that direction. He reinforced the southern flank and prepared to receive the weight of a direct attack. He would not have to wait long.

Meanwhile back in the church, the firing rudely interrupted Father Leblastier, who was ten minutes into Mass. At first he continued, but then half way through the service, a woman burst into the church yelling, “The Germans are coming! Save yourselves!" A German patrol had indeed managed to penetrate to within two hundred meters of the church, causing a panic among the assembled parishioners and American paratroopers. Marthe remembered that, “Everybody started to run away but they started shooting, so we had to stay inside the church.” During the gun battle, all of the villagers assembled for Mass had to huddle inside the nave of the church just to stay out of the way of the flying bullets.

The assault, which lasted only ten minutes, had been an uncoordinated, piecemeal effort during which the paratroopers inflicted heavy casualties on the attacking force. All of the work that the paratroopers put into preparing fields of fire to cover avenues of approach had paid off, and the Germans had sustained staggering casualties. From the belfry of the church, trucks could be seen picking up dead German soldiers. As soon as the fight was over, Maj. Johnston ordered all available personnel to man the defensive line around the village. He correctly recognized that the morning attack had only been a probing action and that another assault would soon follow.

Montebourg Station

Montebourg Station, France, 10 June , 1944

The simultaneous attack on 10 June of the 505th Parachute Infantry on the left proved more difficult, largely because of the nature of the tactical problem. The regiment was to take the Montebourg Station and le Ham. The latter town was the western anchor of the German defense line and was situated on the Merderet between two small tributaries.

(click on picture for full size)

The plan of attack was for one battalion to seize the Station and defend to the north while the 2d came up behind and then swung west between the creeks to le Ham. The first part went well. Under heavy artillery rolling ahead of the attack, the 1st Battalion reached its objective within six hours of the jump-off. The 2d Battalion, following the 1st slightly farther north than intended in order to avoid flanking fire from the left, turned to attack le Ham along the axis of the Montebourg road.

The enemy troops at le Ham, some of whom had retreated there from the Station, fought stubbornly as they were pressed into their last stronghold. The attack was halted at dark still about a thousand yards from its objective.

Ste Mère-Église

Sainte-Mère-Église, France, 6 June , 1944

In the early hours of June 6th 1944, American paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne dropped in and around the village of Sainte Mere Eglise. This would herald the start of the allied invasion and the battle of Normandy. They were ordered to capture Sainte Mere Eglise to hold off German counter attacks that could come from Cherbourg. A lot of the surrounding fields had been flooded by the Germans in anticipation of an allied invasion and as a result, numerous American soldiers drowned after dropping into them.

Before the invasion started, a building caught fire in the town square of Sainte Mere Eglise and this provided the Americans with an ideal landing beacon. The locals gathered to try and extinguish the fire and as the Americans started to land, chaos ensued. The Germans, completely taken by surprise, started to fight back. Many American Paratroopers landed in precarious locations, making them easy targets for the Germans. The Americans suffered considerable losses in the battle for Sainte Mere Eglise; many paratroopers being killed before even landing.

After some fierce fighting, the Americans managed to encircle Sainte Mere Eglise and by dawn, the village was captured and around 30 Germans were taken prisoner.
