Lag problem
« on: 05-11-2012, 20:11:13 »
Hello!
My friend began playing FH few days ago, but there is a problem.
He have a lot of little lags lasting less than 1second every few seconds, but they disappear while flying or driving cars/tanks.
His ping is low(around 40-60), and his PC can take BF 3 with high/ultra settings.
Spec:
Windows 7 64bit
i5-760 3.07GHz
6gb ram
gtx 550ti x2 w sli

He tried to set all settings to low - Didn't Help
He tried to fix sound settings/his firewall - Didn't Help
He tried to start FH2 as an Admin with in Xp mode - Didn't Help
I found on this forum, Post from 762 member, that said about fixing some values in register - Didn't Help

So, we tried everything, but still he cannot play without lags.
There is no problem with lags on "single"(bots).

I don't know anything about the technical side of this kind of thing (someone around here will though, don't worry), but it would be worth a shot trying this program Game Booster 3. I run it every so often before I start up FH2 and it helps a bit when I have, i.e. my ping is about 10-20ms better than usual on 762, slightly less frequent lag spikes, etc. May not solve your problem but a useful program to have.

I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about 'lags'. Do you speak of internet lag spikes, do you get the 'connection problems' message then? Or is the game stuttering and the fps drop?

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

And if you knew anything about technical stuff, you would know that program prbably does nothing to this guy. That's very powerfull PC, that shouldn't need program like that. All it does is it closes unused programs to free RAM for your game and this guys must have a lot of porn running in background to make games freeze because of RAM.  ;D

I have 600 posts here, the majority of them asking stupid questions. Clearly I don't know anything.

Plus I generally do have a lot of porn running in the background :D.

Game Boster is shit, for people with very "messy" HD.
As i said, He's palying Battlefield 3 on nearly highest possible settings, without a FPS drop.

Its like game stuttering(not sure if he have fps drops), but only on multiplayer (Bots/Single wirks great), and only while moving/shooting,
There is no problem with this "lag" or game stuttering while He's flying or driving a vehicle.

Giving advice in performance related questions really would require the very least some basic knowledge of how today's hardware runs things and actual potential usage cases of suggested software. Game boosters and such are meant for the very low end computers that require every possible inch to perform even decently and we're talking about one that's not the highest of high end but still high end computer.

But in the case, have you tried disabling sli for BF2? I recall similar cases some years ago and those 550's should be able to handle fh2 just fine without.

False.  Gamebooster is not only useful for cleaning "NOOOOBS" messy HD. You can use it to stop all unnecessary windows processes/services with only one click ("Boost button").  Your right to think that new rigs should run old games quite easily (without any help of tweakings/programs), but reality is more complex.   Unfortunately, the BF2 engine only use one of your cpu cores.  That core is not used exclusively by FH2.exe.  He's shared across all processes/services running on your computer.  Reducing the number of processes running on you computer free the core running fh2.exe, improving FPS, even for latest big buck rigs.

The fact that someone has a computer running a 2011 game smoothly (BF3) doesn't mean it would be able to run all older games as smooth.

So how he can play Fh2 single(with bots) without a lag ?
He have alot of those "little" lags/stuttering while moving/shooting, but he can normally drive a vehicle or plane ?

Can he use XFire or fraps to record a little bit of this stuttering.
Usually stuttering is all over the place, especially with planes and vehicles, not just with walking around and weapons.

That might be right on an old OS like windows XP, not really optimised for multi-core CPUs (note the "might", I'm far from being convinced XP handles things THAT poorly).
But windows 7 is absolutely able to run a demanding program on one core and all the rest on others, it is not going to stack up everything on core 0 and let the others idle ...  ;)

Anyway, to answer the problem, I think Kummitus is right, try disabling SLI. This kind of technology is a nest for problems and seldom needed with nowadays GPU (unless very specific needs of course).
