If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 and FH2 crashes often for you, this may help you.
1) Go to the folder where you have Battlefield 2 installed.
2) Find FH2.exe and right-clik on it, than select Properties
3) Select "compatibility" tab and tick (turn on) "Disable desktop composition". Like here:
4) Click OK and enjoy the game :)
P.S. Remember to ALWAYS run your Forgotten Hope 2 via FH2.exe or a shortcut on your desktop created by installer.

doesnt work.
-
doesnt work.
It helped a few people with older systems.
-
run under XP SP3 and as an Admin too
-
Greetings! + Queries! :)
Pc not working -wont start up, (on a late '90's steam powered laptop at the mo.)
It may be something as simple as a motherboard battery fail. BUT I want to be prepared should I need to order new parts etc
If I have to get some new stuff I may upgrade from XP 32 bit to Windows 7.
DOES FH2 WORK "PROBLEM FREE - EASY-PEASY - ON WIN 7 ??? Should there be any problems? :-\
(I'm aware of something running in Admin mode or some gobledeegook!)
If it does. What Win 7 should I get I hear there's 32 and 64 versions, which is best? (for FH2 play)
I have 64 bit and it works fine
I ask as I once installed Win Pro 64 bit on my PC and there were no drivers to work my printer on that! ;)
That may still happen with "older"printers
I have two 2G sticks of DDR2 on my XP 32 bit system at the moment (and still get CTD's inbetween map changes)
What Ram should I go for if I upgrade to Win 7 the DDR3? FH2 work ok on that?
DDR3 is better if you can buy it
Help a dude out here! Cheers ;D
cheers

My internetz hate me on my computer, but yeah at least singleplayer runs lag-free perfectly on FH2. Except when I crash. *uses this fix*

Hello guys, I'm having some problems with CTDs here.
I'm running Vista 32bit with BF2 installed on a different partition from Windows with a fresh installed BF2 1.41 + 1.50 + FH2.4 full install.
I have WinXP SP2 compatibility and Disable Desktop Composition checked under FH2.exe's properties and running on an administrator account.
Regular CTDs occur suddenly when playing (screen flickers to black and then back to desktop) and when loading a map (freezes and mouse "hourglass" is shown indicating a non-responsive application). I tried running Disable Desktop Composition checked but not compatibility mode when it froze during map loading (around 30%). When I alt-tab to check the error I see the following:
Notes:
-I don't alt-tab during gameplay
-I'm running on high settings, with screenres 1024x768 75Hz
-Using the installer-made desktop shortcut
-No other programs running actively in the background
-I've had the same computer since ~2007 and haven't had problems with BF2 before, FH2 however has always had some issues. I doubt it's a hardware related problem.
Does any of this sound familiar or perhaps even solvable? I'd greatly appreciate some help!

I have a identical problem, but it usually happens just when i finished loading a map. Usually after a couple hours of playing. Only once have I gotten specifically the "memory.dll" message though. It differs slightly every time.
-
Im getting the stupid BF2 memory error, at EVERY map change...and I have 8gb of ram. What seems to be the problem?
-
It has nothing to do with your computer system memory, but more to do with how BF2's game engine utilizes memory. The game engine only allocates so much memory toward specific tasks, ie.. Storage..
When a map loads, items are preloaded or loaded with the map that are found on the map. All maps have textures for the map itself, as well as, the objects upon the map.
Typically, what is happening is you are running out of texture space. When I have had this error and debugged, 9 times out of 10, the error is due to textures. Therefore, sometimes I wonder if it is graphics card memory related, rathar than system memory?
About all one can do is reboot and sometimes that clears things up.

Besides reinstalling 1.41 I advice checking out this clip with tips on resolving memorry.dll erros :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc-Em6SFJj4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc-Em6SFJj4)
This fixed my memory.dll problem. No CTDs whatsoever.
-
worked for me, win7, asus sandybridge system. thanks!
-
dont know if this is pure coincidence but since i installed Proj Reality & the "alt-tab" patch which it includes, I have virtually no CTDs anymore (I used to have CTDs every hour or so..)
-
I installed FH2 on my notebook, because it has better preferences. Unfortunately, I don't know why, but the the game always crashes while loading winter maps. It crashes always at the same time - during loading textures. I tried what you suggested, but it didn'r work. I think it's rather graphics problem though... Any suggestions?

I have tried the comatibility option mentioned here for windows 7 and nothing has changed. I get a blank screen for a few seconds, then it just goes right back to the desktop. Also, I have tried this mod on my older windows xp. It worked for a while but now it becomes unresponsive when I load any map. I tried re-installing it on Desura, but no change. Not sure why this mod is being so difficult for me, but I would sure like to have on board soon! Thank you
-
Hi Tiger,
have you tried all the other stuff that is written in this thread: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=21.0 ?
Edit: Could a Mod take these two posts and split them into a separate thread? Thx. :)
-
I have the same F... Problem... But instead loading the map it crashes at 14% when loading :s
I HATE THIS S*** please guys... help me
I've tried the Win 98 thing, the desktop thing, Running as administrator, i've Patches 1.41 and 1.50 from BF2.
I have several mods... but this is the only one I wan't to play OMG help! hahahaha
I'll give you 3 carrots if help me xd
-
If you crash at 14%, then the crashing problem has to do with your objects folders.
Notice at 14% it says "Objects" over on the bottom right corner of the screen. Usually you crash like this because of modded or conflicting content. Let me know if this helps you.
-
I tried doing as the solution says but the game still crashes time and time again.
-
This solution/fix does not work. Getting more crashes than ever.

Hello I am having a small issue with forgotten hope 2. I run it through steam and when I try to connect to the server the first time it does not connect and I get the error message. After that when i get in on the second load I play the map fine it then crashes to desktop when loading the next map. Any help would be appreciated.
-
The double connect thing happens to me too; the map switch crash is neither a Steam issue.
-
So any advice how to fix it or do i just have to wait for the a patch to fix it.

Your problem comes from a bugged update of Punkbuster. Everyone has it, and the only thing we can hope is that they fix their crap.
Until then, the only thing you can do is to try to connect on an empty server first to get rid of the connection error, and then connect to the server you want to play on.
-
Okay thank you
-
I have tried every fix and solution I can google up over the last week. The mod crashes as soon as I try and load a singleplayer map/game. It starts fine, runs the video intros and background videos fine, when I select singleplayer and then select a map it crashes to desktop immediately.
Tried installing with Desura, same thing. Read that it was probably a Desura issue and to download and install the mod via the regular 2 part installer. So did that, same EXACT problem. The game is fully patched and current, and legal. Tried with Admin rights, win XP sp2 compatibility, disabled desktop composition, and so on and so forth. No matter what settings, it does it the same way every time.
And yes my system will run BF2 maxed easily, as well as most mods I have tried. My only guess at this point would be a screen resolution issue, perhaps widescreen related. I am in the process of trying various resolutions both 4:3 and 16:9. I will post anything I find out.
*EDIT*
Tried 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 720, as well as my native 1600 x 900, all resolutions and settings from low to high and all points in between give the same CTD at the same point mentioned previously in this post. Well I'm giving up for now. Good luck guys.
-
Giving up? Never give up.. try running FH2 in windowed mode, see if you get an error when it crashes.
-
Okay got somewhere finally.
I realized I hadn't tried other maps yet, so I tried the second 16 player map and bingo it loaded fine. The first map no matter what settings I use will not work. From the way it crashes with no error I really think it has something to do with video, either resolution, aspect ratio, or something else with that first map that either doesn't like something on my video settings. Don't believe its a directx issue, at least not directly due to the lack of error report.
Perhaps its something to do with the latest Nvidia driver or Physix API. I run a simple Nvidia GT440 2 gig video card on this rig. Its a solid card for its age allows me to run Skyrim on medium settings, Assassins creed I, II, and several other games that are much more taxing than BF2. That card with a AMD 5500+ X2 and 4 gigs of ram and the 1 terabyte western digital black edition hard drive shouldn't be an issue as far as hardware ability. It has to be something in a driver, the mod itself particularly that first map, or something with Win 7 64 bit and all the Microsoft garbage (UAC, so on.). My first thought was UAC but its running as admin across the board on all the exe's.
I'll keep on trying, I'm too stubborn to quit outright.. I was just talkin crap earlier LOL.
-
Got to play a few rounds on the second map. Runs fine until the actual battles commence. Then it starts to slow WAY down to the point its completely unplayable. Not sure what it is now... My first guess is something somewhere in this mod is not optimized. BF2 has poor memory usage as it is, add a modd like this which pushes the engines graphic capabilities, and a slight memory leak, no matter how small can be devastating.
That aside, I like this mod a great deal, I love the concept and the execution, the work done is phenomenal and truly a beautiful game and remarkable achievement. Right now in this latest version it has some problems thats all. I will keep the mod and await the update which I'm sure will fix it. Its too good a mod and too polished to think the developers just won't address it. In the mean time I'll tweak and poke it till I get it to run.
Thanks for a great mod, and these little problems are nothing and I know they are being worked on.
-
didnt work :(
-
Thanks - you advice worked for me. The BF2 compat tick, FH2 compat with XP and also set to Administrator and then start on Map 2. I tried so many things before that... aaarrggg. :)
-
If your game crashes (BSOD, desktop crash) many time during playing read this post. Maybe it will help you too.

The straight BF2 plays great for me. But since i installed Project Reality, FH2 is crashing all the time. I have to make it clear that BF2 is still working fine. I have a image file of my entire system which is 3 months old and the crash to desktop was infrequent then. I am about to try this out to see if it works. There does not seem to be an authoritative fix for this, only a lot of tinkering.
-
My FH2 started normally all the time but now I can't play cause it gets me black screen and nothing more, not even CTD, what could cause it ? Deleting shader client doesn't do the trick (or I make some mistake, I didn't do it in a while)...changing compatibility mode or disabling desktop compositions also doesn't work. I'am using Win 7 Ultimate. Regards, Dolan.
-
Please, help me guys! I have installed the mod into BF2 directory, but when i try to connect the server, my game just flying to desktop.
Yes, and the single play work correctly.
I have 2.8.835 version of the game, and 1.22.0.0. version of launcher.

hey there and sorry if the thread is outdatet or something, but I could need help because I have a similiar problem:
after starting the fh2 launcher, nothing shows up except my desktop. nothing changed in the system, so I cannot explain it.
infos:
- admin properties
- compatibility win7/winXPs3 (doesn't matters)
- win7 pro n
- too much ram
- overkill cpu
- ssd
this doesn't matter at all I think but this one does:
the nvidia quadro fx1800, which I'am using right now? unfortunately my geforce gtx is in rma, so I have to use the quadro which is my only gpu since my cpu has nothing like build in.
I deletet the chache and profiles from fh2/files directory, but it doesn't helps.
in the ts3, noone knows this problem.
could you please help me?

hmmm.
Is system overclocked ?
Enough free hdd space ?
Can you play other games ?
Reinstall of direct x ?
Have you tried Display Driver Uninstaller and then install quadro fx1800 driver ?
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
-
my only guess is the direct x install is messed up somehow.
i had an issue like this when i used the battle log type bf2 installation.
system specs similar to yours
-
since my cpu is running stock clocks (adaptive voltage 1V but that shouldn't matter at all), ssd space is still over 100GB free and other games can run (can means only low settings) it shouldn't (and probably doesn't) belongs to hardware errors.
thanks to your replies Alubat and Forgottenkevinhope I will try the directX issue tomorrow. now I don't want to spend time at this ...
€dit: dirext9.0 runtime fixed it immediately, thx. uninstalling gpu drivers btw is no necessary afaik since the right one is chosen by the gpu itself usually
