Steam nerds around?
« on: 06-08-2010, 01:08:24 »
I need your help!

I've been having problems with downloading MAPS from servers in games and mods which use Source engine. I mean in all of them, for at least two months now. It downloads all other files (skins, music etc.) but no maps.

Fixes I've tried by now:

typing console:
cl_allowdownload 1
cl_allowupload 1
cl_downloadfilter all
sv_downloadurl = “”
net_maxfilesize 64

I've also turned off my firewall and changed to unprotected port in router.
And I've deleted cache files.
And tried running games as admin. Steam too
I'm really running out of ideas.

oh, and it happens with all accounts.

Did you try setting it to download "all files" under Options > Multiplayer tab?

I figured, but I would check in the options tab just in case.

well i know there are servers that simply dont support map downloading and if they then run a custom map you a screwed.

but i have not idea what could be causing this.

maybe you could try making this post in the official steam forums since there are more steamy  people there for sure.

The Steam forums are a lost cause... There's absolutely no way to get help there. If someone actually tries to help it'll soon be buried under the trolls and idiots.

Anyway, Ciupita apparently got it working now. Maybe she'll post the fix here if it would help hankypanky or others who are having that same problem.

I basically "re-installed" steam without removing it. This helped, at least what I tried at morning.

1. you have to rename your steam folder in "c:/progra...."

2. create a new folder called "Steam" in "c:/progra..."

3. Copy Steam.exe from your old steam folder to your new steam folder

4. create a new folder in your NEW steam folder

5. rename it to "steamapps"

6. and copy at least one games GCF files there from your renamed steam's steamapps folder
